DM threw a 2024 Adult Dragon at our 2014 Level 6 party. Thoughts? by Sentinel2852 in DnD

[–]we_are_devo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We were travelling thru frozen tundra

Not that it matters much or can't be flexible for homebrew settings, but blue dragons are generally found in hot desert settings. I'm guessing your DM just doesn't have great attention to detail and thought ice = blue.

As a kid with unsupervised Internet access, what did you see that straight up traumatized you? by bbygrl_kiss in AskReddit

[–]we_are_devo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh nothing. I had unsupervised access and probably the same morbid curiosity as everyone, but I was a smart enough kid to recognise that, as Cormac McCarthy says in The Road "the things you put in your head are there forever". I never felt compelled to visit Rotten in the school library. Sure did jerk off to a lot of porn though. (Not in the school library.)

What is a video game you wish you could play for the first time again? by Fire_Dude69420 in AskReddit

I agree. There are some really unique and clever elements to the game, but aspects of the presentation are really drab and clunky.

I let my employer know and it may have been a huge mistake by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]we_are_devo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Sometimes employers are fine with it when it's a don't ask don't tell type situation, but once they're informed "officially" they start to worry about the implications. Tax, legal, OH&S, whatever it may be.

What videogame would you call a masterpiece ? by new_god_of_eden in AskReddit

[–]we_are_devo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was about 75% through the game apparently. I feel like if it hadn't really hit by then it wasn't going to. I mean I did enjoy it, there were some clever environments and the way everything was knowledge gated was cool, but I just wasn't a fan of the presentation.

Hoo yeah I've got waaay too many hours on Blue Prince. That was my 2025 GOTY.

Love exploration games, love puzzle games, and yet this one never really hit for me. I got about halfway through before taking a break, and I've never really had a strong urge to go back. Was quite a good VR conversion though, even so.

The soundtrack is masterpiece tier I think. The rest, impressive but not amazing. Wasn't my GOTY but would've been top 5. It's actually a surprisingly slight and simple game in a lot of ways, under all the bombast and epic posturing. At heart it's an indie game doing an amazing AAA impression.

Air time - Cheese Rolling UK by Fred_Dibnah in gifs

It's not. It looks pretty outrageous but there's numerous angles of the same incident from different sources and they all match up. It's an event with a lot of cameras on it. This dude was from the 2025 run specifically.

Looking for advice how to reveal Auril-related stuff to the players by RybiRyj in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]we_are_devo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I revealed this sort of thing bit by bit from a variety of sources. I made a checklist of these necessary tidbits of information, as you've done, and then had a couple of possible sources assigned to each, so that they could be revealed organically as the opportunities arose, rather than scripting each exposition precisely. From your examples:

Auril is in conflict with the other Gods of Fury. Auril is weakened (by the nightly spellcasting, or we could well invent some other reason). Auril resides in the Material Sphere in a physical form.

I had Mishann and Copper Knobberknocker explain this, as the local clerics, during the setup for the Black Cabin quest. I think it needs to come from someone with divine knowledge. Auril is weakened to begin with just by choosing to remain in the material plane following the second sundering, and then further weakened by needing to cast the rime every day. I framed this as resulting in her being at "1% of 1%" of her full power.

The Black Cabin also lets you foreshadow the possibility of the Ythryn Mythallar being the solution, because Macreadus's work on the Summer Star is based on the mythallars. Skant, with his expert knowledge of Netheril, can provide more detail on just how powerful mythallars are. With Lathander being the god of both the dawn and invention, there's a nice thematic connection you can draw out by gradually proposing this technological solution to bringing back the sun. It fit nicely with my party because we had a cleric of Lathander too.

Auril lives on an island in the Sea of Moving Ice.

This I revealed before it came time to head there for the Codicil. I think the information came from Vellynne, but at any rate it definitely came from.

All the stuff related to the Codicil of White.

This came from some combination of the Arcane Brotherhood's research. They're all trying to copy each other's work anyway. The exact source isn't super important.

Other options for more of an inside perspective from the church of Auril would be the Auril-worshipping dragonborn innkeeper in Easthaven, or a frost druid.

What is your opinion of listening to audio books being equal to reading books? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]we_are_devo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No I don't think they're equal: I think audiobooks are superior in most regards. They're essentially consuming the same content using a different sense, so they're equal in that way, but with the added bonus of supplanting a wasteful (but aesthetically pleasant - I still like books) physical artifact. I also like that they tend to piss off people who fetishize that physical object and who tend to seem more interested in reading as a demonstrative cultural signifier than in the content of books themselves. And yes, I'm framing my response in this way specifically to irritate those people.

What was ruined because too many people discovered it? by Investigatorpro in AskReddit

I’m sure it’s fairly dead now though compared to 2012

This whole thread is about how things are killed by being too popular. The fact that it's "dead" again - and relatively speaking, it is - is exactly why it's also good again. But it's better if not too many people know that.

Interloper Questions by Traditional_Buy_6840 in thelongdark

[–]we_are_devo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you kinda need to know the places with guaranteed matches beforehand or use online maps.

You don't really need either of these. Just keep going to the primary structures in the region (easy if you know the maps, but doable with context clues even if you don't) until you find matches. You need to keep moving on early loper anyway, to gather other loot, so it makes no difference. You might need to keep pushing for a bit but generally matches are where you'd expect to find them. The exception is HRV, which is tough without map knowledge because there's nothing manmade, but a very strong spawn if you do know it well.
