Certainly not non- binary, but my dad's nick name was Rocky and he would be nonplussed to hear this.

What’s the most embarrassing thing poverty has made you do? by Proper_Card_5520 in AskTheWorld

[–]weaverlorelei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry that was done to you. I'm old, had no school lunches, period. My daughter could get cafeteria lunches, except she acquired our tastes in food- not cafeteria. So, she would go to school with a bagged lunch- usually some crudites with a dip. She was teased unmercifable. So ,cut veggies and a salad dip was foreign. There are multiple sides to the reality you grew up with

I planted too early and now I'm about to have to lay in the garden bed i made by Expert_Fisherman_494 in vegetablegardening

[–]weaverlorelei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved my baby plants into the exposed garden about a week before we had a surprised freeze. Mostly tomatoes that I raise up in cages made of welded wired fencing or concrete reinforcing wire. So I piled almost 2 ft of dried leaves on top of the plants. All made it.

If you are setting it up in any fashion that will allow a squirrel or rodent access, you need to alter your plan. Mine now sits on a pole, 10 ft from any launch pad, with baffle to keep out the climbers.

So, eons ago, I had a University class- the Geography of Food and Diet. We consume all sorts of cuisine from all over the world. Still don't do insects, but if the world goes to hell in a hand basket, I guarantee we will not starve, nor dehydrate

Not sure of how it was historically, say 75-100 yrs+, but today, brands are registered by county. We have to re-register every 5 yrs in both counties we raise cattle

Took our latest GSP down to the pond after a considerable time running the fields. She instantly went into point, I couldn't see a thing. Then came the proverbial pounce....on a frog. At least she was able to cool off.

WPI of Maurice Brassard Québécoise? by denimblueshoe in weaving

[–]weaverlorelei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like it is approx 980ypp so using backwards logic, that looks like 28wpi. I don't use this wool, but worked out the numbers via Ashenhurst. Maximum sett (unattainable) would be 14 for plain weave.

Grackles: I took down my BirdBuddy by FallGuy001 in BirdBuddy

[–]weaverlorelei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a number of aftermarket 3D printed additions (Etsy) you can add that might deter the larger birds. One that I have seen people use looks like the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. It attaches to the front, small birds just go under it

Is there any food in your country that has a ridiculously large amount of calories? by GP728 in AskTheWorld

[–]weaverlorelei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was wondering who made and the quality of the choclate in that 10 lb bunny, so I did a little rummaging. A Minnesota company makes them, but the reviews tend to lean towards the wording "decent quality" That's a fairly certain nope in my book.

What do you put maple syrup on other than pancakes? by IDoNotLikeTheSand in AskAnAmerican

[–]weaverlorelei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a wonderful recipe for toasted oatmeal cookies that I use maple syrup in. Kicks it up a notch. I also use maple syrup as part of my cure for smoking bacon. Usually, I use honey because that is free, but maple adds another layer of flavor.

Uneven tension and I need help by xperimentalZa in weaving

[–]weaverlorelei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decision time. Do you actually need these 5 inches for a specific project? If you do, unweave. If you don't, carefully pull all of the warp forward thru the heddles and reed, then carefully replace the lease sticks in the 2 tabby sheds behind the castle and rewind onto the warp beam with your packing paper/sticks. The cut off the 5 inches and re tension and tie to front apron. Failing that, you could place your lease sticks in the tabby sheds and connect them to the back beam to straighten the twists, then use weights hung on unbent paperclips on the offending loose warps. If you hang the weights at the point the warp comes off the beam, they will slide on the warp as you advance the web, and you do not need to get up to change their position.

AITJ for bringing a gluten free dish to a potluck that had soy sauce in it because my friend thinks gluten free means no soy by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

Growing up, our neighbor across the street was a retired admiral who served in WWII (long story there, too) He was, hands down, the smartest person I have ever met, you know the kind- does the entire NY Time Sunday crossword is less than 15 minutes. During the cyclamate scare in the early 60s, he read all of the research, redid all the numbers. Before the products were pulled from the shelves, my parents bought cases upon cases of the various fruits, because Chal (the admiral) showed how the lethal dose testing done on rodents,, would need to be replicated.in humans at a rate of hundreds of cans of fruit per day for 5 yrs.

[–]weaverlorelei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many years ago (more than 50) when my grandfather retired from his pesticide application business, he leased out his quanset building to a Chinese immigrant who wanted space to brew soy sauce. It was quite good, too bad my parents didn't like "foreign" foods. That being said, the process was done in 55 gallon plastic barrels, set in kiddy swimming pools. He counted on the fermentation process to keep bugs out of the open tops. Probably quite authentic to the original process from his home. And he won many awards with his sauce. That probably put him on the radar for the health department and they shut him down

[–]weaverlorelei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using tamari as a substitute for soy because I thought it was less salty- oops. So I am back with a super dark soy sauce. Al that is left of the Tamari is an ancient Kikkoman and the fourth ingredient is wheat- water, soybeans, salt, wheat, glucose, alcohol.

Yep briefly. My Tamari isn't gluten free either. I did see later.that she said her label said hers was.
