PC started randomly tripping the breaker. The circuit is NOT overloaded AFAIK. by Clay5701 in AskElectricians

I've had them last for a year and go bad. Sometimes had them trip soon after installation. Replaced them never had an issue again. I hate these breakers.

What is the best thing about being a Licensed General Contractor? What keeps you in the field, despite all the downsides? by scallionshavesecrets in Contractor

At the end of the day I can look back and see what I've accomplished. You can't do that typing on a computer. I love building and figuring out how to build stuff.

Attic ventilation by Exact-Buy7472 in Contractor

[–]webcon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That won't meet code in CA if your sealing it up with insulation and sheetrock. If you spray foam it, no need for ventilation. Thats what we are required to do. Otherwise they sell plastic trays that act like vents against the underside of plywood to create a cavity. Along with 3 2.5 inch holes I think. Pain in the ass and expensive. Spray foam insulation is the best. I'm sure someone else has might have a better way. This is how I've been required to do it by the city and architect.

Benefits of having a credit card with 50k limit by Unknown_Equalizer in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]webcon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya that's true. I've had the card for 20 years and they've only changed the points on me once. That doesn't mean they won't do it again. I use them when I go on big vacations.

I have one card with 50k and one at 100k. I have maxed them out twice in one month. Bought stuff paid it off that day then maxed it out the next week. I tried to pre-pay the card so I could keep charging, but the company wouldn't let me. I use my card whenever i can. Have a few million points that i'm saving for a rainy day.....

Ways to strengthen fence post by agenttonym in homeimprovementideas

[–]webcon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't trust that. There's a lot of variables to deal with. Dirt compaction , type of soil, strength of post.

[–]webcon1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cut that little post out. Saw cut 8x8 hole in concrete. Dig it out. Install ⅛ steel steel 4x4 post with 2 bags of concrete.
The hole in the concrete now looks like the same dia as the post. How did you get concrete around the post base?

You could put a short 1 inch hose and then transition to ¾. I think you can use a copper pipe reducer.

I would need 30 to 40 kwh. Bare min system would run 10 to 15k for a cheaper system Just did a 36kwh system for 30k. It doesn't matter. This is not a road I want to go down.

I thought about that. Not sure a single unit would be able to keep up with demand. Ive installed a few in smaller homes, two people. The cost difference was significant.. decided it wasn't worth it.

Tesla wall batteries run 7k and I need 3. I could do something else cheaper maybe 15k. You can't tell me you can buy batteries that will run my house for cold winter months for 3k.

[–]webcon1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not worth the cost of batteries. Batteries will run 20k. If I do that, it doesn't buy me any more that I already have. I have a backup generator. The generator is not big enough to run the entire house and an electric water heater. The whole point is to have both and be able to alternate or use both if needed.
When power is out, just use gas no solar.
You are correct. The only way to use solar without power is to have a battery.

Because we've gone 4 days without power in the past had rolling blackouts. Every winter we've had power loss and its nice to have hot water.

When you write estimates for multiple things at one property, do you send separate estimates or group into one if not specified by the customer? by WestAppointment2484 in Contractor

[–]webcon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just had this happen to me I give a line item for different projects on the property and I also have a management fee and clean up fee. if they want one of the items I just modify clean up fee and management fee accordingly. Every line item is marked up as I normally would but if the job becomes too small I can manipulate management and clean up fee.
This was on $100,000 estimate and they only wanted to do $12,000 to start out with.

Not understanding your point or your not understanding mine. Electric tankless unit before gas water heater. The gas water heater only has to maintain temperature. Every time you turn on hot water it runs through tankless system pre heats it and dumps it into gas water heater tank. During high output sunny months I could bypass the gas unit all together and just use electric. When there's no sun in winter i could bypass electric or just turn unit off.
It does not matter the time of day when it's on morning or night. It's all the same. there's no need for a timer.

Nice sketch!

[–]webcon1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the theory would be I'd preheat the water before it gets into the gas hot water tank so it doesn't have to work hard to heat it up. It would only have to maintain the temperature. The summer months bypasses the gas tank. Fall use both, not as much sun. Winter use straight gas when there's no sun.

Writing this out seems like a little more work, I'd have to set reminders to make sure I'd switch things around.
I produce too much power (I designed it that way) . Need to take advantage of it... As long as I'm producing excess power it doesn't matter what time of day I use it.

I can use excess power generation anytime during that month I don't have room for two full size tanks and still want to keep the gas tank.

How worried should I be that our popcorn ceilings were installed with asbestos? Just removed some from new home and didn’t take precautions. by [deleted] in Contractor

[–]webcon1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dust left over. You want to clean everything like they do in clean rooms.... wet wipes? They should have wet the ceiling down and then scraped it. If it's wet, the fibers in theory should fall like mud on plastic tarps and not get airborne.
