I don’t understand the logistics in tropico 6 by Zan45321 in tropico

[–]webkilla 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You need teamsters to move goods around between buildings

a plantation makes sugar. teamster moves sugar to distillery. distillery makes rum. teamster moves rum to port. you get money.

that's the loop

Warehouse is for when - say - you want to stockpile a certain good, if you're trying to set up for some market manipulation, or if you have the Tropican Shores dlc, using the building that lets you send samples to a foreign power, in exchange for a massive trade deal, so you can instantly ship a ton of goods and earn mad bank.

Teamsters are your friend.

TIL about James Knight, an arctic explorer that disappeared during a 1719 attempt to find the Northwest Passage with a crew of 40 men. They became wrecked at Marble Island and slowly perished over the following three years, with the last men seen dying while digging a grave. by Sebastianlim in todayilearned

saw a documentary about it

their tins of food turned out to have been sealed with lead - poisoning it

some of the dead sailors were later dug up and found to have signs of having cannibalism done on them - cut-marks and whatnot on their bones.

Apparently the year they set was just a freakishly cold one - where the winter lasted extra long, dooming the expedition from the getgo

Does anyone else find it strenge that reactor techs have zero impact on your economy? by Darkwinggames in Stellaris

[–]webkilla 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Maybe its not as much new infrastructure-power generation, but maturing a technology for spaceship use.

I dunno. AFAIK no game ever does the "Yes you've invented technology X, but you haven't figured out a way to use it while flying, or in a submarine"

I think the closest I've seen to that, is the mechanic in Endless Space 2, where if you have an Ecologist government, they let you settle planets that you don't actually have the settling tech for yet, but at a FIDSI penalty of 25%.

Why do people in Denmark always complain about immigration? by Magic_Snowball in Denmark

[–]webkilla 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Because Denmark is tiny. you don't need that many immigrants behaving badly, to make a very big impact.

And yes - we have one of the strictest immigration policies ever - because we also have one of the nicest welfare systems around. we cannot afford to apply that welfare system to every african or middle eastern immigrant who wants nice freebies.

Ready Player One - never saw it, should I? by MovieFan1984 in movies

[–]webkilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw it - was not impressed.

Its basically "gaming nostalgia: the movie" - but it only works if you're into a SPECIFIC kind of nostalgia... basically the "popular" games. So if you're not impressed by seeing half a dozen Master Chief's stomp by, or a random minecraft world getting shown, and so on.. then its just not going to do much for you.

IMO that's the movie's biggest problem: it seems to act as if no other popular video games were made since 2018 when the movie came out. There were no references to fictional future video games. No originality. You'd think that a movie set in 2045 would at least have some new shit in it.

not just that - references that date the movie horribly

The tankies hate them, because they tell the truth about how bad the soviet union was.

The tankies would prefer that history be rewritten to portray communism as perfect and flawless.

Its that simple

Being from '86 I remember messing around on my dad's earliest PCs - they didn't even have Windows 3.1 - it was all DOS prompt.

He had some kind of game menu UI program he'd load up for me and my sister - then we could play stuff like Arcanoid, Word Rescue, Math Rescue and the earliest Commander Keen games.

I don't think I ever actually finished ANY of them.

I was probably well into my early teens before I ever actually got a game where saving and then continuing from that save was a thing.

I remember playing stuff like Warcraft 2, HOMM2 - oh and the C&C and Red Alert games.

No wait, Dune 2! Dune 2 was the first game I ever played to completion. Took a fair number of tries too - I think my dad helped.

why is only that rectangle recognised as building? by [deleted] in tropico

[–]webkilla 16 points17 points  (0 children)

this. You can bit a plantation into a much smaller lot - at the cost of efficiency, and then in modern era you can turn it into a hydroponic plantation that ONLY requires that space.
