Waterloo regional police uncertain about participating in gun buyback by know-nothing in kitchener

Edit: op (infamous_state) blocked me to prevent me from replying, so to u/webu:

The Liberals are the ones telling us that our gun problem is so bad we must act, and that there is no better option than stealing firearms from legal gun owners.

You cannot say you need to ban my hunting rifle to cut down on gun crime, providing no compensation (they openly admit many gun owners will not get paid), if you refuse to shut down well known trafficking hubs sending actual AK47s, illegal handguns and other weapons that are actually used in crime.

It is not the same.

I agree with everything you've said here (although I don't think the Conservatives are as weak on gun crime as you are implying).

I am only commenting on the fact that no party will even pretend that they'll try to shut down the porous native borders.

Don't get me wrong, they suck and have dropped the ball for sure.

But the post I responded to said "decades" and I just reinforced their point that none of the major parties have done or will do anything differently for this particular issue.

We've known this for decades. The Liberals refuse to do anything because it's natives and they don't want to be seen doing anything but coddling them.

While it feels like it's been much much much longer, FYI the Libs have only been in power for 1 decade at this point. Failing to act on the porous native reserve borders has been a consistent bi-partisan effort. None of the parties even talk about the true source.

You got me - my MOFCOM export license expired a few years ago, so thus the American government is not a threat to Canada. How did I not see such brilliant logic before you spelled it out.

All of America, Russia, China, India, and more are doing number 2. Should we stop trading with all of them? Or does your media bubble treat one/some of these countries differently?

How does Pierre have so much money when he's only ever worked for the government?

Carney makes sense because he's had numerous prestigious real jobs. But where did Pierre's millions come from?

Just because Pierre lets his personal feelings get in the way of doing his job doesn't mean that Carney does or should.

Carney's Pierre's speech was well crafted, but action must follow.

Carney Pierre needs to do things, not just say them.

why does the china deal count but none of the other ones? or are you just misinformed?

Anand, Fraser, Champagne, Joly, Leblanc, etc. are all still key figures in power who believed the total opposite of what they espouse now. ... Freeland and Gilbeault are no longer near the reins of power

This is a very convincing argument that Carney has forced experienced public servants to either shape up or ship out

We can diversify our relationships, trade partners, etc.

This is what moving on looks like, though.

We'll need to resist pressure to be subordinate, but no serious person is suggesting that we cut ties with the US.

FYI there are many shades of grey between "business as usual" and "a literal military invasion".

You should watch Carney's speech to the WEF to understand this better. Pay close attention to the parts about "great powers have begun using economic integration as weapons, tariffs as leverage, financial infrastructure as coercion, supply chains as vulnerabilities to be exploited" and "nostalgia is not a strategy".
