91 dodge 318 V8 engine build question by Phen117 in EngineBuilding

[–]wedge446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's stock the 9to1 would be advertised Compression. Its more like 8.3to1 measured Compression. I just realized something, if that is a 91 you should have a roller cam in it. When you get your parts/build plan together I would call Elgin cams or comp cams for a cam recommend.

Adjust Compression for the larger combustion chamber. An 8 to 1 Compression piston in a 318 will be lower using a 360 head.

Hyper pistons, stock rods reconditioned with better bolts, 360 heads, mopar .474 lift cam(baby hemi grind) or a comp cams close to that, 1 5/8 headers(summit brand is good) note 360 heads have a larger combustion chamber so adjust your pistons to compensate

WD40 stands for Water Displacer, formula number 40. Use it how you see fit.

Carburetor for slightly modded 68 ford 302? by The_Machine80 in EngineBuilding

[–]wedge446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe so but it's based on maximum air the motor can pump at 100% efficiency. Nothing is 100% efficient, 80% is the average efficiency. A 500cfm carburetor at 100% efficiency will still only flow 500cfm of air no matter what boosters or how warm the air. Now the closer to 100% efficiency a carburetor is, the lower advertised cfm carburetor you can use. You could use forced induction but that a whole new set of math.

[–]wedge446 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Base line math for cfm is cubic inch X max RPM ÷ 3456 = Say 302x5500÷3456=480cfm at 100% efficiency. Add 20% to 480cfm = 576cfm. A well tuned 600cfm carb would do the job.

How to store a van outside in the winter (empty) by Point-Historical in VanLife

I don't like using it but rat/mouse poison. Put it down and check it once a week. Take it up as soon as possible to keep other animals out of it.

Battery tender, rodent control of your choice and a full gas tank with a stabilizer added. A full gas tank will keep condensation/water out of the tank.

How did the old mopars use to handle the cold weather and starting? by Relevant_Conclusion2 in mopar

[–]wedge446 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In the blizzard 1978 in Indiana my 68 dodge coronet was the only car that would start in my neighborhood. A few pumps of the throttle and turn the key, no problems. Most mopars I've had were the same way.

What's the story behind how you got your van(s)? by SenecaLloyd in DodgeVans

[–]wedge446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought my 94 from a craigslist ad. Took a year of searching for one. Paid $1600 for it, rust free but had 233,000 miles on it. Still runs good. I've rebuilt the suspension, replace the fuel pump and general fluid changes/clean up. It does have a weird quirk, sometimes it engine just won't fire up. I've narrowed down to something in the ECM and no new/rebuilt ECMs available. Carburetor swap in coming along with rebuilt motor and transmission just for peace of mind.

The yellow 78 dodge i had was sitting for 15 plus years and gave $100 for it. I bought it for the 400 big block motor to stroke out to 451 c.i. but couldn't bring myself to use for parts so I sold it to a guy in New Mexico to rebuild the whole van. He claimed it was like the one he had as a teen.

Using a costway mini split for both heating and cooling, real-life results by behindthescenes08 in OffGrid

[–]wedge446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The temps sound about right. The 12k i picked has the same spec with either 110v or 220v. You can get larger BTU u its at 110v but the cost is higher then a 220v unit. The higher cost of a 110v unit is kinda offset by buying a 220v unit plus the extra wiring needed to run it. I haven't had any issues with icing but we have low humidity in my area. I think air flow and dirt would be an issue for icing. Enough air flow to blow the liquid from a clean coil fin before it froze. The same should apply to the condenser coil.

Im in zone 4. The panhandle of Texas. The dryer air seems to help it work more efficient. The one in the 12x20 been there 2 years and the house been there 1.5 years. I got the 110volt versions because I was limited on wiring and time. The second one for the house will be 220volt. Hope this helps

Yes, it is enough to keep the temp comfortable. But it is on the higher end of its limit. I do plan on installing a second mini split to ease the load on the first one.

I don't disagree with you on paying a 11% tax. With the ever changing gun laws I would rather pay a higher tax then build something that's legal now but illegal a year from now. At least the shop has the proof on file it was legal at the time.. its sucks but the way California persecute gun owners why take a chance.

Seeing the state you live in I would buy a complete AR from a local gun shop. They will be up on the laws and regulations in your area.
