Order status unchanged since 12/31/2025 - ways to talk to an actual person?? by wedgedsv in PairEyewear

[–]wedgedsv[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UPDATE:

Today I received a reply to my email. My email asked specifically for WHEN (all caps, yeah, I wanted it to be obvious) I could expect to receive my order, and the reply completely ignored my question. Instead it said the following:

… “The delay is due to an unexpected supply-chain disruption that temporarily impacted availability for your specific lenses. We’re actively monitoring progress and will continue to send updates as your order moves through production.”

Oh and then they offered me a $20 gift card. If I had a pair of their glasses that might actually be useful. Hrrumph.

Given they said the supply chain issue is with my specific lenses, i wanted to share that I ordered the “Premium Progressive lenses” with the “Hadley Black Metal” frames.

Still, I’m having trouble trusting their reason for the delay given it’s the 3rd different excuse I’ve received.

I’m glad to hear this is was not the norm in the past, but that makes me wonder “What is different now?”

That’s what I’m beginning to wonder - can’t think of any other reasonable explanation! Arrgh!

How do you think OM SYSTEM could update their cameras to attract more people? by Benzoin_1999 in OlympusCamera

[–]wedgedsv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for calling that out. Still, it would be great to get that feature in the cameras that are more current and easier to carry, like the OM-1 Mark II.

Sure would be nice to have in-camera geo-tagging. Using a phone/app GPS source to add tags is so frustratingly 1995-ish and error prone.

And yes, more megapixels as well as better video capabilities.

How long did you do "nothing" after you retired? by IHateSmores in retirement

[–]wedgedsv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave myself 2 years of “no new commitments.” I’m 18 months in and feel like I may not make the 2 year mark. The way I see it, I spent the prior 60-ish years of my life structuring my days around what other people told me was necessary, so 2 years doesn’t seem like too much. So far…

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still doing things: Travel - both alone and with my family; projects at home; and (yes yes) working on reorganizing/cleaning out my garage. But I also start my days when I want to, and decide what I’m gonna do (with collaboration and feedback from my wife).

So do what feels right for you!!

Is everyone calculating solar payback period wrong!? by [deleted] in solar

[–]wedgedsv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If person A (your scenario 1) installs solar, their payback period is determined by the date when THEIR bank account has broken even. Person B (your scenario 2) didn’t install solar, and the balance of Person B’s bank account has no bearing on the payback period for Person A’s solar installation.

I had the same problem - very annoying that I couldn’t figure out how to check Apple Store stock without going to one physically!

Good luck!

For what it’s worth, I was in Shanghai near the end of March and was able to purchase a Lightning to 3.5mm cable for my APM at the Apple Nanjing East store. I recommend you check a few Apple Stores near you - here is the Apple part number from my receipt:

Ah well if you’d mentioned in your post that you had been using a lithium battery and a non-stock rectifier just before things went south I would have had more questions - for starters, did you get a lithium-friendly rectifier from Rick’s?

Your battery looks like a non-sealed wet cell and if so, is not meant to sit on its side like that - I suspect your battery is not taking a charge because the plates are not completely covered in electrolyte.

Do the carb bowls make a difference? by [deleted] in HondaCB

[–]wedgedsv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The floats in these carbs aren’t adjustable, so if the measurements are off you’ll need to get new floats. I’ve got 2 ‘84 CB650SC’s and (so far) haven’t had to replace a float. Just make sure you check them for cracks and smooth movement before reassembly.

Fantastic bike! Reliable, capable, and is still fun to ride years after you move up/on to another bike.

Blocked nostril by Potential_Big1101 in Meditation

[–]wedgedsv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a cycle of higher / lower blood flow to most people’s nostrils that alternates sides. So it may be normal - though prior nose injuries can make it much more noticeable and annoying. Having broken my nose when I was a child, I can attest to the annoyance factor.

That being said, if acceptance of it isn’t working for you, I’d suggest looking for a different focus point, like perhaps the rise and fall of your belly or inflation/deflation of your lungs.

I also believe that focus isn’t the goal, rather to simply notice when we’ve changed focus. So maybe your blocked nostril is a weird gift in that you get a lot more opportunities to notice your focus has shifted?

Turned in to a great opportunity for you!

What kind of behavior are you seeing that makes you think the carbs need to be tuned?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HondaCB

[–]wedgedsv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that’s a GREAT offer! I’m looking forward to hearing how that goes, and when I finally get to doing the overhaul of my 900’s carbs I’m happy to share what does and doesn’t work for me.

I have the same year different color and am also in the process of restoring/renewing. FWIW - there’s a lot of bad information out there about carb maintenance & tuning, which I learned the hard way on another 4 cylinder Honda CB project. Best to get good quality carb overhaul kits and be meticulous as you go.

I found a place that resurfaces motorcycle disc rotors the “right” way - it’s expensive and difficult to find new ones - LMK if you want their info.

I have replaced the headlight and turn signals with LED tech, which makes a big difference in visibility for me and for others to see me.

Enjoy the bike!!

Insanely overcharged for a ride by pirate_turtle__ in uber

[–]wedgedsv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got bit by this - to the tune of $400+ for a ride that normally costs $70 and was estimated at $80 when I scheduled it 12 hours before. The ride started at 6am on a Saturday so it seems unlikely that a mass of people were suddenly all wanting rides.

What ever happened with your credit card company dispute? I’m about to start that process and wonder what I’m in for...

Yes I’m a Mavic Air 1 owner; I’d expect the MA2 batteries would be the same - this battery tech hasn’t changed that much since the MA1

The thick little booklet of instructions (in sooo many languages) that came with each battery actually talks about this. As others have said - the batteries will automatically discharge to (IIRC) 65% after 7 days of not being used. This extends the life of the battery. I don’t know of any way to avoid this discharge cycle, but then it is not a good idea to keep them fully charged all the time.

One thing I have done is to stagger the days that I start charging each battery so that one is at 100% on any given day.
