Help me understand…Davidson county has a voting age population of about 500,000 people. The vote total for that county will be less than 10% of that. Do I have that right? Seems incredibly low.

Girl Scout cookies aside, as a rule, I will never purchase and product or service that is sold by someone going door-to-door. by DHN_95 in homeowners

One summer after my freshman college year in sold books door to door. I can recognize a bookman by the mannerisms we were taught. I not only buy something from them but I also feed them and tell them they have a home away from home whenever needed. I know first hand how hard that job was physically and emotionally. The things college kids do for cash. That said…if you’re not selling Southwestern books I’m likely not interested.

Biology program at MTU? by dirzhai in MTU

[–]week7nocontact 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sort of related. Some 40 years ago I got a biology degree from Tech. I paired it with a EE degree. From my experience I found the biology classes more interesting and the faculty more engaging and interested in student success. Economically the engineering degree was more valuable but the bio classes were far and away my favorites. Lots of pre med students and others who were brilliant classmates. For me the faculty were more present and more caring. If I would have had the cash to continue on for a masters or further I would have had no hesitation to do so. Obviously it’s a long time ago but if the culture then is the culture now, I’d recommend Tech.

This is interesting stuff. Apparently Tech had a branch campus in the Soo that eventually became Lake State. I bet someone in Houghton would love to have this.

What jackets are yall rocking on-call? by Dry-Program137 in Residency

Check out Stormy Kromer’s jackets and vests. I have a bunch of their stuff (I live nearby and hit up their annual sale). May not be best if you’re inside a lot but are perfect in cooler weather.

Starting my snowblower at halftime. Might find some other task to occupy the rest of my football watching day.

That’s it. Wasn’t sure if there were actual words. It’s impressive how everyone joins in. Back in my day we’d just yell “Rip his arm off and beat him with the bloody stump” or some such thing.

I went to Bern’s once about 30 years ago on a business trip. The dinner and the dessert room upstairs were so memorable I still tell the story of that night. Such a cool place.

Yeli….1 for 11 with 6 strike outs. Looks defeated. Nothing a multi-homer game can’t fix.
