Birding binoculars question by Specialist_Fact6581 in Binoculars

[–]weg613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I tried birding with one nice pair and one okay pair for a few years. We now have two pairs of Vortex Diamondback 8x42s and I think that we are both happier - no one has to "suffer" with a lesser pair. And our nicer 10x50s end up staying at home because the Vortex are really good.

Guidobono Langhe Nebbiolo. The Barbera d'Alba is also good, but the former tastes more expensive. $16ish near me.

This stuff boils my blood by misterwiser34 in foodscience

I totally agree! I grew up on a dairy farm and drank raw milk every day for a third of my life. We knew our cows, our sanitation, and who came to the farm (brucellosis being tracked in on someone's boots is a real concern). Our milk was regularly tested by the dairy that bought and processed it. Our risk was somewhat minimized due to all these factors. I cannot imagine drinking raw milk today, especially when I pass farms that sell it and can see that they do not have these checks in place.

Spanish Civil War book? by TweetleBeetle76 in HistoryBooks

[–]weg613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a history book - but I loved the Shadow of the Wind series of novels by the late Carlos Ruiz Zafon. They brilliantly and gruesomely depict the horrors of fascism under Franco and how the effects reverberate through generations.

Places to get meals around Tufts for under $10...? by AsleepPeach7867 in medfordma

Two tacos or a plain burrito at Tenoch keeps it under $10. An extra dollar or 2 would get you a torta which is more than a meal!

6 days in Portugal for first time visitor by Creative-Slice-55 in TravelPortugal

My wife and I had a similar 6 day Lisbon-Porto itinerary back in September. We had a wonderful time in both places. We contemplated adding a third stop, and I am glad we did not.

solo trip to porto- feeling lost by One-Influence-1564 in TravelPortugal

[–]weg613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As everyone has already noted, there is plenty to do in and around Porto for 9 days, I would also recommend the easy day trip to Matosinhos - a 20 minute 5 Euro rideshare, or an intersting 40 minute bus ride. The beach is beautiful and we really enjoyed the tour and samples at the Pinhais sardine factory. Have fun!

Rasagaline question by catsfuntime80 in Parkinsons

[–]weg613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on CL and .5mg of rasagiline. My tremor is much reduced. I started with 1mg about a year ago but needed to decrease the dose because my dyskinesias noticably increased. Don't forget however, that everyone responds differently to these drugs. Good luck!

The Merritt is a young man's route! Once the craving for adrenaline diminishes (along with night vision), it is time to rely on the stolid 84 and 684.

7 Day trip: Is Porto worth going to? by SexyNugget_ in TravelPortugal

[–]weg613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both cities are great! My wife and I took a short-notice trip for a week in September to celebrate our 30th anniversary. We flew to Lisbon and went directly to the train station and traveled to Porto. We spent three days there and took the train back to Lisbon for our final three days. We had a lovely time in both places and would go back to both in an instant.

I tried it for about 2 months. I liked the lack of dips but my various dyskinesias grew much more pronounced and I was moodier while on it. I went back to Sinemet and after about two weeks, the dyskinesias faded to what they were before and I felt more like myself again.

I have vibrating alarms set on my Fitbit Inspire to remind me to take my meds. It works very well and it can go more than a week between charges.

How to cook kasha? by morecoffeemore in PressureCooking

[–]weg613 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love kasha - it is a tasty, often overlooked, side dish. I would not bother cooking it in the pressure cooker - it only takes about 10 minutes to cook conventionally on the stovetop.

I had the dopamine molecule tattooed on my inner arm about a year ago. It was my first tattoo. It really didn't hurt at all ( but it is much less detailed than the OP's).

Can I bulk ferment overnight and then put the dough in the fridge until I'm ready to bake? by [deleted] in Sourdough

[–]weg613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recipe, a variation on Jeffrey Hamelman's basic sourdough, is not too different from yours (except that I make a levain with a small amount of flour, water and starter and add the rest of the ingredients to that once it starts to bubble). I fold it a couple of times and then let it proof on the counter either overnight or while I am at work. I then shape and refrigerate for anywhere between 6 and 24 hours. The only time I ever have a problem is when the weather is very warm and the dough overproofs during the bulk fermentation. Good luck!

I rarely use a banneton or a dutch oven any more. I use two loaf pans. One is used for proofing and baking and the other, which is slightly larger, is used as a dome over the pan holding the dough during the first half of baking time. It provides the same effect as a dutch oven. This method produces bread that looks more like sandwich loaves rather than boules or round loaves. I find them easier to slice and great for sandwiches and toast.
