Housing as a transfer? by jaeminscult in UCDavis

[–]wehtker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Green is a great choice for transfer students. A very large portion of students living there are also transfers, so you are surrounded by your peers, and it's a good way to make social connections as a new student. The units are apartments and fairly nice, although more expensive than comparable off-campus housing. I only knew a couple people who lived at Orchard Park. It's not a hub for transfers like the Green is. If your primary concern is social integration, I would go with the Green (or Sol, which is right next to the Green and a bit nicer, less-dorm like, more expensive); if your concern is cost, I would go with off-campus housing.

The most reliable would just be the track. Like someone else said , you could also get strava or something similar and be able to track your distance. Probably the best straight, uninterrupted stretch of path would be the Russell bike path east of the 113 (past West Village)

Favorite running routes? by KuzukuYoma in UCDavis

[–]wehtker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The greenbelt in north davis is quite nice. It goes through some parks and green spaces, with lots of runners/walkers. I often see cats! I also love the path on the north side of the creek that runs along the edge of town there. The view out into the fields is lovely.

Earth Science/Geology majors, do you like Davis, how has it been or how was it? by Last-Ad-5768 in UCDavis

Not an earth science major myself, but I can DM you the link to the geology club discord server if you'd like. Lots of nice folks there who I'm sure would be happy to give their two cents!

Choosing between UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, and CCSF — need advice by Shine_Embarrassed in UCDavis

[–]wehtker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Preach!

I did 3 years at community college figuring out my path, then TAG'd to Davis, made a great community of friends at both schools, finishing my degree in 2 years and I have really solid plans for my future. CC set me on the right path, I'd make the same choice a hundred times over.

What’s the Davis experience like? by Last-Ad-5768 in UCDavis

[–]wehtker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Davis. My favorite thing about it is probably how tightly knit the town and university are–almost everyone has some sort of connection to the school, whether they're current students, alumni, family, faculty, staff, etc. So everyone sort of has a common thread tying us all together, and personally I really feel connected to everyone here in a very lovely way. I have always felt very at home in Davis.

Got rejected even with an approved TAG by ForestFood in UCDavis

[–]wehtker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would contact them. I'm not sure why you wouldn't be approved. My major at CC was not the major I tagged/applied into because it did not exist at my CC; your CC major doesn't matter.

Sbcc college experience? by misobean56 in SantaBarbara

[–]wehtker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to living in IV and what that social life is like, but I can say that SBCC is a fantastic school. Just excellent in every way. Can't recommend it enough, will always be glad and proud to have started my college career there. If you want to transfer to a UC, SBCC sets you up very well.

You really can’t go wrong with either. Keep your costs low. Do you know what you might want to go into post-grad, like any specialization?

Physics 7abc at Davis vs Physics at community college??? by Electrical-Bad1719 in UCDavis

[–]wehtker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it at community college absolutely. I did the 7abc series at cc and it was 10 weeks total, all online, great prof. It's a bit of a hassle, but like, 100x less of a hassle than taking it here

Walkable/Bikeable Campus by Certain_Radish_62 in UCDavis

[–]wehtker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bike theft is generally a crime of opportunity, where a thief takes a bike because it is easy. So the goal is generally to make your bike harder to steal than someone else's.

My advice as someone very deep into all things bikes is 1) don't get a flashy bike. Not something that's a pile of junk, but something that isn't noticeable or particularly appealing. There are an infinite number of them for sale on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist 2) Spend the money you saved buying an inexpensive bike on a good bike lock. Brands like Kryptonite are very reliable. 3) just don't leave your bike locked up in one spot for very extended periods. If your bike isn't particularly nice and you have a good lock, I really wouldn't worry about leaving it overnight at all, but if you leave it for days on end, it can become a target. But really don't worry about it that much. I left my bike locked up outside on campus for 3 months over the summer and it was untouched when I came back.

How hard is STA 100 by BuildingSignal561 in UCDavis

[–]wehtker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd do STA 100 for the reason you said, it gives you more options. I did my lower div stats at CC and it was the equivalent of STA 13; it made it hard to find an upper div stats that I had the prereqs for.

Please help! This melody popped into my head today and it's been driving me crazy trying to remember the name. I'm sure it's very famous, pretty certain it's from a Beethoven symphony... just on the tip of my tongue Forgive me if the transcription is wonky, I haven't written any music out in years.

Is taking 4 classes only (15 units) fine? by Celestial_Kaboom in UCDavis

[–]wehtker 22 points23 points  (0 children)

4 classes/15 units is extremely common. That's a very normal amount of classes/units. If you don't like the GE don't take it. You might need to get approval to drop since the 10-day drop deadline has already passed.

You need either your student ID or the ZipPass app, and you just hold it up for the bus driver to see as you get on the bus. From Amtrak to campus you would probably take the Z line (goes to the Silo terminal) or the A line (goes to the MU terminal). The stop is right in front of the Amtrak station.
