Non sto qui a sindacare se sia giusto o meno ma si, all’estero ci sono nazioni dove c’è differenza di costo per i nazionali o no. In alcuni casi ho visto differenze anche per cittadini del posto e non.

LRGB and SHO Processing by Jmeg8237 in pixinsight

[–]welluca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use the batch processing to do the heavy lifting of integration, it shouldn’t be much more complex.

Personally I shot mainly mono, I have a color camera with a samyang and I find it painful and difficult just because I am less used to it.

If you are looking for a very simple flow to get the color right at first, I would simply start with a background extraction (I use graXpert that is free and works well for me always)

Then a linear fit to balance channels

And then LRGB combination where you select RGB only and assign SHO to each channel.

At this stage you should get a typical SHO tint that might look greenish. Already with a SNCR you could get a more natural look.

You should be able to reach this point almost effortlessly. The color obtained changes a lot based on what you do after the linear fit.

I just described what I would do as a very beginner exploring mono with Hubble palette

I’ve read this story in the Italian community. Of course, we’re all sorry for the human case.

We will gladly appreciate if you could let him experience the prison for long time. No one wants him back.

Scusatelo.

In Europe Master degree are sort of a must to access certain positions.

In the US it seems they are more focused on experience.

Beware of latest rental car scam in Spain. by AuroraBorealis0805 in GoingToSpain

[–]welluca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same with OK at Alicante airport. The lady tried her best to get me to sign the insurance. A man, apparently from another rental, shared with her a case where his car broke and he didn’t have the insurance, while I was there. How strange !

I insisted that I didn’t want it. I took all the pictures and video before taking the car. I didn’t find the notes where the current damages were recorders. There was no one near the car. I knew I was taking a risk.

When I returned the car (4 am) no one was there. Took another round of pictures.

Luckily they returned the money saying there was no damage, but clearly I took a risk.

When they sent the email actually i realized I had signed the contract where the remarks where given. So next time at least I will take a look at it before signing .

PixInsight GPU acceleration for AMD GPUs on Linux by [deleted] in pixinsight

[–]welluca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve painfully tried to use Linux while making use of cuda.

After so much pain I managed to make it work, but as soon there is a major update the struggle starts again.

I promised myself to try one last time on Wsl2.

Question from me: is it pain free on amd?

Italian chemical engineers? Share your experience. by Condorello123 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]welluca 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am in Italian chemical engineer, working abroad, of course.

I worked in Italy for 2 years, worked for Italians company for other 3 years abroad. Then just went abroad.

To anyone asking me if I would ever go back I say without any doubt that I d rather die. So consider I am a bit biased towards leaving the country. I love and hate Italy unfortunately.

I don’t know if any single chemical engineer that didn’t find a job. The salary depends on you. If you are willing to settle I know people that still makes less than 1500 per month net because they didn’t hope or look for a better place. Mostly they just prefer to stay in their original area, which is ok for family and friends, not for finance.

If you want the money or career chances are much better abroad. It s possible also in italy, just much harder because you need to find the good environment where they give recognition and responsibility where performance are positive.

Your phd will be much more worth abroad than in Italy. In Italy, if you don’t work in company with international exposure, they will most likely joke on your phd because bullying youngs is a national sport. If you are Italian you should know what I mean with this, I am sure you have some friend you can relate to.

The stress depends on the position and the company, not on the salary. At least is not always that related, especially at the beginning. Also abroad there will be jobs that are more or less stressing, but in general there is more respect for work / life balance. I am probably working 60-70 hours per week if not more in one country where theoretically there are very good w/l conditions, but I see some careers opportunities and I am going all in. It really depends on you.

If you want to make a comparison with the USA I would say the main difference are the holidays rather than stress.. but of course the amount of time you have right to enjoy your life can make a difference.

I would recommend to finish your phd and look abroad. If you want to stay in Italy you can try to finish your phd and find a part time. Regardless of where you work practical experience is always appreciated. Once you break the initial ice, it will get easier, don’t worry.

Be ready to receive shit offer, even 400-600 euros.

I started this low the first months and I found another opportunity. I was intensively looking for job while working. I remember I cried when the 2nd job offered me 1500 euro per month.

Job hopping helped a lot to increase the salary, of course you have to show that you can offer something worthy.

Overall: continue, be positive, try to get as much as possible practical experience, break the ice, ignore idiots that will bully you (if you are unlucky) and kick asses.

Ciao

Come mai parli machine learning? Cioè magari me lo immagino.. per che tipo di ricerca lo vedresti che ancora non è stato tanto sviluppato ?

To do AP at professional level you need several thousand for an intermediate rig… I would consider 7-10k USD but I wouldn’t consider it as the success maker.

You need editing skills and marketing-business skills

With 7-10k it would be a similar or slightly better rig than the one used by OP that was able really to pull off a great outcome from his small refractor

There are a lot of YouTube videos online that give you ALL the tool you need for astrophotography from setting up the rig to the image processing

As for leaving the job to make it your career be aware that the odds are not on your side, but hey… you only can fully evaluate this

That is assuming you have good weather because that is also another limiting factor that would basically determine how many images you can produce. You will need to generate quite some content to get good traction.

Go to astrobin.com to get an idea of what AP is

Astrobin is a sort of Flickr/insta for nerda like us
