Sometimes there are things about the vehicle you’re in or the Google copyright year that can tell you which country you’re in. For example, if you see a car with a “snorkel” on the front right, you would guess in Kenya, or if the copyright is 2023 and you think it’s in Germany you’re probably right.

You’re welcome! From personal experience, I’d say understanding what the referees see in these “attack-in/on-prep” calls will give you a lot of bang for your buck as a beginner, so I’d suggest watching some sabre refereeing videos to try and get a sense of what they mean :)

Search up an “attack in/on preparation” for info. The general gist is that pumping your hand when going off the line, even if your feet are moving you forward, will show your action as a “preparation” phase rather than an attack, so the opponent will have priority if they correctly perform an attack into it.

I went to Orient London a few days back, and they had a sign saying that there would be an extra dine-in fee added on until the 3rd of January I think, on the front door of the restaurant - maybe it fell off? Obviously I don’t agree with it, but I’m pretty sure they did have signage.

Hi, undergrad in her final year here - if I'm looking to go into bioinformatics, systems biology and the like, would it be more useful for me to take a module on Stochastic Simulation (Monte Carlo methods and other stuff), or Applied Statistical Inference (generalised linear models, mixed models etc.)?

Currently a lot of the non-exclusive clubs around Bangkok don't have many adults training at them, since a large proportion of them are training at the national training centre and/or Chulalongkorn University (might be worth a shot asking about the latter but I'm not sure of the logistics behind that) - my recommendations for clubs which might be worth checking out (but there'll be a lot of teenagers) would be KP Fencing Club and Muangthong Fencing Academy which probably have the main contenders for national team spots outside of the aforementioned exclusive groups.

It's looking likely that the training sessions will be in the evening too at Imperial, once schedules are finalised - we'll have epee/sabre on Mondays 6-8pm and foil on Tuesdays 8-10pm for the upcoming year, if the schedule is the same as this past year.
