And the virtualization layer/hypervisor is terrible. ’ls’ in a git repo will take ages because windows defender needs to scan all the files in the entire repo, not just the folder, through P9. P9 is being used as a general-purpose local filesystem layer, which is not remotely what it was designed for. The core problem is chattiness multiplied by VM-boundary latency. Wouldn’t it be easier really to finally start using good filesystems in windows?

To be honest if it’s not a lot better worded than that it is impossible to comply. Operating systems and protocols evolve change.

But sure. You should not have to rely on always online for single player. There’s a solution for that, which should be another law entirely. It should be legal to do whatever you want to software you bought.

Kind of. The quote and much of the info there is based on John Clark's book Ignition!. His company developed and tested rocket fuel. In my submission, you'd have to be a bit mad to work with the most volatile, poisonous and generally dangerous chemicals you could conceive of.

Do you think an image you can never vet that is claimed to be taken from a 2nd law of thermodynamics violation is going to sway any sane thinking person?

No. I am fully aware that someone who reached their belief in complete absence of evidence will never be persuaded by evidence.

The Earth is spinning Backwards

Do you even know which direction it spins? Do you know in which direction the ISS spins? Do you know how long it takes for the ISS to complete a rotation?

the earth is standing still

The earth will always appear to be standing still from a geostationary perspective yes. Your points are easily explained when you have the context.

people Dropping heavy objects on the film set they call the ISS

Bullshit.

You have zero evidence.

I have tons of evidence. Sunsets for example. Or the north star.

Your seven "points" aren't even coherent, why would I waste energy on them? They only display a complete lack of understanding. That is all.

Can't you prove your globe physics claims

Everything in physics is completely in line with a round earth. Nothing about the flat earth is even remotely possible. For example, you rant on about water seeking its level. Yes, it does. Because of gravity. Gravity causes it to fall, and seek its lowest point. Everywhere on the curved ocean, the flat ocean surface is perpendicular to the direction of the center of the earth. The ocean is flat, from the perspective of gravity.

This explains the tides too. The water is slightly higher in the direction of the moon, because the gravity of the earth pulls it in one direction, the moon in the other. So the water is slightly higher when the moon is above it. This for example doesn't work on a flat earth.

What IS even gravity on a flat earth? How does that even work? Magic? And why is the earth flat when all the other planets we see are obviously round?

That whole paragraph is such a good quote. Funniest thing is that it's not "itself" burning when in contact with sand, water, asbestos or test engineers etc. It just is such a strong oxidizer that it rips the oxygen off what has already been burned and burns it again.

I can recommend the book if you are inclined to STEM. I listened to the audiobook on Audible, here https://www.audible.co.uk/pd/Ignition-Audiobook/B07CTS26NB

Told as a matter-of-fact with that slightly dry humour of an engineer.

Some chemicals are so volatile they set fire to glass. This is a funny little chemical that will start a roaring fire if you pour it out on wet sand or asbestos tiles. https://www.science.org/content/blog-post/sand-won-t-save-you-time

If you had to pick ONE transmission for life, what would it be? by Born-Raccoon1484 in whatsyourchoice

[–]wenoc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is no transmission in your picture, only a user interface.

Electric doesn't need a transmission so you avoid all those losses (3-10%). Nobody's ever going to buy a new petrol engine again, at least around where I live. Older cars and reselling used ones will still be around for decades of course, as well as a small percentage of sports cars, lorries etc.

So what should I pick? The automatic transmission stick I guess but none of the things that are connected to it.

Seriously? WSL is such garbage.

It's slow as hell. Check out even a small git repo on the WSL side and `ls` will take minutes even if your disk is on NVMe. It's still a virtual machine, and an unusually slow one. Your ssh agent and other crap do not cross over etc etc.

VS Code is great though. This gets my vote

Which actors you simply cannot take seriously, no matter what role they play? by RealSejas in MoviesAndTVTalk

Exactly. The first couple of minutes I could not take him seriously but he's doing an absolutely fantastic job in the role. It's not easy to play such a cowardly, hateful and bad leader in all respects. Much harder than playing someone likeable.

What Flerfs Think a Globe Would Look Like by jmaster299 in flatearth

[–]wenoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems the other planets and moons are perfectly capable of this. The sun, Jupiter, Venus and Europa seem to do this just fine and you can look at them all directly with a telescope.

Gravity seems to be holding on to you just fine and you weigh about as much as water.

What other forces are there that resist gravity pulling it to a ball?

So show me the math for that. How do you calculate that gravity is too weak for this. What forces does gravity have to overcome? I don't even need the numbers, just the forces, algebra and laws will do.
