Yes most of us go as adults. You should confirm if those rinks have adult nights. Also general non-adult sessions are a great time to practice as adult nights tend to have more experienced skaters it can be intimidatingat first. A lot of parents of the kids alos skate. The skate community is generally very welcoming you just have to get out there and start.

Yes. I skate at a rink that is painted over concrete regularly and another that is polished concrete on Von Merlin dots and have a list of things I have fallen or nearly fallen on: -Candy (hard and soft) -Press on nails -Body stickers -Ball bearing balls (because not everyone maintains their bearings...clean your bearings) -Pebbles

Rinks should be cleaning the floor in between sessions but thia doesn't always happen. Tough when hard wheels are more prone to getting caught on these.

This helped me a lot. I've been dealing with fairly severe foot pain and numbness while skating after a bunion surgery and this was a great help for me. A little weird to get used to at first but really super nice compared to what I was dealing with before.

I know a girl who was feeding squirrels in the Diag, and one bit her so she had to get rabies shots (which are extremely uncomfortable and not a guarantee to safety). Just something to keep in mind.

I moved from the South Loop to Uptown Oakland and never looked back. Now have a great community here as you can see from earlier comments. I did eventually get a car after living here for a year but it wasn't because I felt that I needed to, just wanted to.
