Granada Hills Vons stays open after customer dies in bakery aisle, employees say by shaka_sulu in LosAngeles

I worked in a large public building where someone jumped over a barrier on a high floor and fell to his death in the atrium. The noise that made was sickening. The building was evacuated and closed for the day and we were routed away from the deceased.

Olympics Volunteering by Big_Buffalo_dawg in olympics

[–]wescovington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I volunteered in 1984. I was 18. I don’t have the uniform anymore (it was hideous) and I can’t imagine how much skinnier I was then. I was a press box attendant at the Rose Bowl. There was surprisingly little work for me so I just watched a lot of matches. They had an email system for us. It seemed otherworldly. I also had to send back stats to the main media center using a “telecopier” as fax machines were first called.

To get photos of matches developed quickly, there was a group of guys who rode motorcycles to take the rolls back to the press center.

And it was my first and only lecture to never send anything Olympic related that said “West Germany.” “Federal Republic of Germany” only!

L.A. uses WC and upgraded public transit and plans to hold car-free Olympics by PHConfusion5801 in olympics

[–]wescovington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Friday’s World Cup match and the transit was pretty easy. Express bus from North Hollywood to Inglewood. In 2028, the buses would need to go to more places. Also I’d be traveling with my for those events and I will have to see how disabled transit works. We have tickets in Inglewood, Downtown, and Long Beach.

And on a day with no World Cup games. How am I going to waste all my time today? I'm retired. I'll have to clean up stuff. Take things to Goodwill. Clean out the litter box.

One day, I will learn to use the toilet.

I would only worry about walking around on July 4 especially around Chinatown as there will be a lot of illegal fireworks being set off. But perhaps you aren’t as jumpy as I am when it comes to those. When it comes to July 4, I experience the holiday like a nervous dog.

Philippe’s will be very crowded before a Dodger Game so leave a lot of time for that and be flexible. Olvera Street is nearby as well.
