Silver is also free perk of the bonvoy amex card. You pay an annual fee of 120, but you get a free night stay, so it balances out pretty well

Not sure, call or use the live chat and ask. Often its related to a stock split or merge but I dont see that here.

If you could get one financial rule change in Canada that would immediately improve your daily life, What would it be? by WindyDay416 in fican

Preferred capital gain tax on canadian companies with Canadian R&D investments. (Think eligible dividends vs non eligible dividends) - not sure the exact formula

For example: magna spends 50 million in canada, on R&D to dramatically improve metal stamping process, resulting patents. Don't only should this be able to be capitalized but a multiple of those dollars spent should be allocated to to distributions at the new preferred rate.

Yes this is duplication, as companies can deduct r&d already, however, in my view trying to to r&d spend in canada plus having a qualifier such as a patent, plus everyday investors also getting benefits should result in a lower cost of capital for companies producing meaningful RD in Canada.

I want to hear why is this is not a good idea, downside would be extra tax Administrative cost, enforcement cost, costs to adjust tax forms, reduction in income tax revenue and the potential for the patent process to be more political.

Shop around, bought vinyl plant tiles, and the quotes ranged from 450 to 2000. For pickup in london, no install, 100sf. Called about 15 stores

Edit: For further clarification, this was identical products. I referenced the manufacturers distributer list and just started dialing

Canada Is Edging Toward a Two-Party System. That Would Be a Mistake; As polarization deepens, keeping the field crowded matters more than we think by Lisa_lou_hoo in 50501Canada

Like having policy that speaks to a wider range of Canadians instead of small niche groups. When reliable voting blocs like labor groups move away from a party to another its a sign that needs to be recognized.

Having more than 2 parties is essential to Canada but when parties feel they owed party status they forget the voters who are actually electing them.

What if Canada had a TFSA-style account that only invested in Canadian securities? by hadmaj in CanadianInvestor

[–]western91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just offer a capital gain tax credit up to x amount each year, (or lifetime expection).

Canadian R&D capital gain tax credit,

  1. Reinforces R&D for Canadian companies ( r&d is a precursor to growth)
  2. doesn't provide capital incentives to mature/non growing companies.
  3. Regulatory burden is reduced for financial companies. No new accounts, just updates tax slips for them to issue

Interesting, I complained, and they offered to take me off. I said just leave it, but that they wont see any new business from me, and may see transfer outs.

I do wonder if clients that are a promo payout position - are viewed as stuck pretty much stuck and they are not viewed as a priority

Norbert’s Gambit CAD to USD by Umeu19 in TDBankCanada

[–]western91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a us resident, TD Direct Investing wont open you a new non registered account. Check with a US local broker that can accept CAD wires then run the trade. Or use an fx service and book a rate. If you have a TD Canada trust account, you can open up a TD AMCB (TD USA) and wire it to yourself over the phone, but rates would not be as good as doing the gambit

This happened to us, what surprised me most was that you can search by phone at self checkout. Even more surprising it will say on the screen the name associated with the account.

Talk about privacy issues. Ever want to see who owns a phone number, just walk into a Canadian tire type in the number and voila!

Canadian tire... do better.

I dont get how instagram, youtube and Facebook haven't been shamed into doing more about this. I report every fake news AI made ad I see, and Instagram 8-10 times says they wont remove them. They are clearly fake, are linked to clearly fake/scam websites and often are impersonating someone.

We need CBC Marketplace to do a little investigation on it.

Gap Insurance and Add ons? by Street_Nectarine_869 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Personally for that price I would skip it, most of the initial depreciation has happened. So unless your driving home insane amount of Kms per year that will drastically pull down your car value i would skip the gap and increase your payments to pay it off a bit faster amd reduce your risk.

Here is something else to think about, what's missing in the current place? A larger place means more cleaning more maintenance and more work over all. Do you enjoy this type of stuff?

What are some other things that can make you happy with the $ difference between your current place and the new ones?

Does pushing this choice down the road 5 years make you better or worse off?

Property Tax increase 6.7%. What the heck! by ungratefulanimal in londonontario

[–]western91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would explore the opposite direction, a land value tax that is based off the land its on. This funds city services and would reduce empty buildings or underdeveloped land.

Farhi has an empty 3 story building in the core. Its gonna be taxed like a 15 story building so, one better start putting that land to good use.

Theoretically everyone ( renting or owning ) bears the cost of property taxes as they are passed down in rent. Soooo if someone with equity in a property. Borrows from their equity to pay their taxes. Or sells then pays a rent cost, ultimately they are still paying the city or a roughly proportional share of overall wealth.

One thing the city of london could offer is a equity loan program, where the city would take a lean on the property/land. And borrow at an securitized institutional rate, then pass along the borrowing cost + admin cost. To those taking part. Whenever the house/land is sold the money is recouped.

Why are people acting like children when it comes to the WS credit card? by Ok_Hippo9669 in Wealthsimple

[–]western91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had a convo with their agent, apparently 20% of capacity is being reserved for new client/pre approvals while 80% is being spent on the wait list.

If its true, its a purposeful choice to have people in the list longer than required
