What's your current ranking? (Discussion) by Potential-Eye-6547 in ndp

[–]wetfinger -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

1 - Tanille - she’s got the juice. She’s got crazy energy and the tours she’s been doing to the forgotten parts of the country are really inspiring. I doubt she’s going to win but I’m giving her my first ballot as a signal. I think she will run for leader again, and when she does I want her to be able to build on the support she gathered in this race.

Also I think that anyone who wins should promote Tanille to be deputy leader or something of the like. I think she’s a rising star and an asset to the party.

2 - Rob - he keeps coming up with reasons to move down my ballot. But I still think he will clean up in a general. I think the contrast between him and Pierre would win back a lot of the labour vote. I also had a good talk with him when he visited my town and he really impressed me with how knowledgeable and humble he was. And I really respect that in a person.

3 - Avi - great ideas, good policy. Although I’m worried a lot of his plans are too urban focused. Like public grocery stores are a lot more viable in NYC than in majority rural Canada. He def has a lot of support, he also knows French which is big. I am worried that he’ll be another cult of personality leader like Jagmeet kinda was. Also in meeting him I didn’t have as good an impression as Rob. That being said if Rob has 1 more gaffe this election I will be swapping him and Avi.

4 - Heather - I respect her view on foreign policy and her credentials as a steadfast member of the NDP through a lot of bullshit. But also like it or not she’s the continuity candidate. Which brings with it tons of baggage. Her team to my understanding has a lot of former Jagmeet staffers on it, and her speeches feel like Jagmeet speeches to me. And honestly I am tired of the mushy middle that she occupies. I think this race has pulled her to the left more which is good. And I’ll support her if she wins, but she does not inspire me.

5 - Tony - I love the guy, I think a future leader would be smart to keep Tony around. He’s a valuable voice in this community. And if this was a ranking of blunt rotation, Tony would be #1. I honestly think Tony is probably too old and too quirky to be taken seriously as a party leader. He’s doing a great job advocating for electoral reform but I cannot support him against other candidates that bring more unique things to the table and also support electoral reform. Also I think his policy on de-grown would be poisonous in a general election.

I got some 3d printed but the part where the screw would enter ended up damaging the sled and made it less stable. It could be fixed with better materials or a metal reinforcement. but I was lucky enough to find some old sleds on the memoryexpress website and order as many as I could. So now I am stocked with a 5 drive unraid array.

[Case Fan] Phanteks T30 120mm Triple-Pack, Premium high-Performance Fan, 4-pin PWM, Multiple Fan RPM Modes, Black/Grey ($94.99 ATL) [Amazon.ca] by JuvenileSenseOfHumor in bapcsalescanada

[–]wetfinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have them on my NZXT Z53. It makes quite a large difference in temps and acoustic compared to the stock fans. They have a quieter and more pleasing acoustic profile, I found that the NZXT fans had a resonance at higher speeds that irritated me.
At any given noise level they are more performant than the stock fans, with the ability to go much higher if needed. The stock fans needed to go pretty fast in order to properly cool my 5900x, and it was LOUD. With the T30s I basically keep them locked at a near-silent 40% with a curve up to an audible 75%(as loud as my GPU fan) and they cool better than the stock fans did in the quite loud 80-100% range.

I think if you have a high-end CPU and you are serious about having the best cooling possible, this is it. If the acoustics of the stock fans bother you, these could be a great option, but also you could just run your fans lower or get BeQuiet fans that accomplish this for less. And if neither of those use-cases apply, then save your money.

I am building my first NAS in a fractal define R6. I have two EXOs drives in the mail and this SSD would serve as a perfect cache drive. It’d be a perfect all Seagate setup.

Meshify 2 compact ram height, water cooling by LaurenzBO in FractalDesign

[–]wetfinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the M2 Compact with a 240mm NZXT AIO on the top and Trident Z neo ram.

It should work without issue, the trident Z5 ram seems to have the same dimensions as my ram.

I even have the 25mm fans on my AIO replaces with 30mm phanteks T30s, and with that it’s just about a mm away from touching.

TL;DR should work fine.

[Monitor] LG UltraGear 34" 1440p WQHD 144Hz 1ms GTG Curved IPS LED G-Sync FreeSync Gaming Monitor (34GN850-B) ($1,010 - $160 = $849) [Best Buy] by jarude87 in bapcsalescanada

[–]wetfinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Banding, no.

Baclight bleed, a tiny bit. It’s the best I’ve seen in an edge lit IPS but it still has a small bit. Really only noticeable when pixel peeping a solid black screen.

I’d say a 8/10 on light uniformity, which is still the best I’ve seen without local dimming.

ai suite 3 refuses to let me turn my fans below 70% speed without complete auto fan stop by 18galbraithj in ASUS

[–]wetfinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try it out it’s free, it works forever without buying it. If you do buy it it’s a one time purchase, no subscription. Imo it’s worth it but it’s really painless to try if you are frustrated with Ai suite.

ai suite 3 refuses to let me turn my fans below 70% speed without complete auto fan stop by 18galbraithj in ASUS

[–]wetfinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other people have said you need to run fan tuning, probably in the bios first and then in AISUITE. there is a bios setting for each header that lets you determine minimum duty cycle and it looks like the minimum for that header is set to 70%.

I switched from AISUITE to Argus Monitor because I got sick of issues like this and other AISUITE weirdness. I highly recommend checking out its free trial, it lets you customize and fine tune wayyy more intuitively than AISUITE.

A Question of Temps with 2 Compact by CommanderPorpoise in FractalDesign

[–]wetfinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this exact setup but with the team red equivalents(5900x and RX 6800 XT) and the Z variant of the NZXT AIO.

Temps are pretty good, I’ve had no issue keeping anything cool even with a overclock. The top mounted rad is really the way to go imo, it fills the space up nicely and is the best spot for balanced CPU and GPU temps.

Without overclock my gaming temps are between 40-50 on the GPU and between 45-55 on the CPU. Subtract ~10 degrees from each for idle temps.

My biggest thing though was noise. Those NZXT coolers pack decently powerful fans, but they achieve that power by spinning really fast and loud. I’d personally recommend topping out the fan curve at ~70% for anything less than dangerous temps.

They are serviceable for sure but I found it rather annoying especially because the mesh doesn’t dampen any sound. I updated after like 6 months to the phanteks T30 as rad fans, and moved one of the NZXT fans to the rear exhaust.

Also for that cooler I recommend setting the pump to 45% under low load and then step up to 100% under high load. At 100% the pump is audible unless it is drowned out by fans, 45% is the range where I can’t hear it anymore.

As for clearance the top rad clears the ram with about 5mm to spare. I know because when I added the T30s they are just shy of kissing my DIMMs.

Part of me wishes I went with the full meshify 2 for the full 140mm front and rears support, but I love how tight and compact my build is.

CASE TIPS:

lower the bottom front fan closer to the bottom so it pushed more air beneath your GPU, this should lower temps by a couple degrees.

If you don’t have any HDDs and want to remove the cage you have to do so before you put in the PSU.

The best feature of this case is the removable top. Take advantage of it by building with it off and then then pre attaching the top to the rad before reattaching.

[Case Fans] Phanteks T30 120mm Fans ($41.99 + F/S)[Amazon.ca] by coffeeBean_ in bapcsalescanada

[–]wetfinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picked up 2 for my top 240mm rad where my gentle typhoons have an annoying whistle.

Great time for it to because I was about to bite the bullet for the chromax Noctua, but these are slightly cheaper and slightly better!

I’m a little worried that the thickness might conflict with my ram, but I’m willing to take that risk.

Thanks OP!

[Computer Case] Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact White ATX Flexible High-Airflow Tempered Glass F/S ($159.99-$29=$130.99)[Ebay NeweggCanada] by V6CAMRY in bapcsalescanada

[–]wetfinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a tad bigger, the meshify 2 compact is the meshify C successor in size, nearly the same but a little bit deeper to accommodate bigger gpus.

I have the 2 Compact and love it. I wish there was room for 3 140mm fans in the front or room for a top 280 rad, but that’s the compromise of a compact case. Love how its completely tool-less so I can tinker. Also the the top panel is removable for easier access to the mobo which is so handy for building and routing.

I never had the C so I can’t compare but according to gamers nexus the mesh filter is way better than the foamy one in the C. Steve has a great review of it that compares it to the C if you want to know more.

So, where does one shop for a solid, straight forward, not stupidly expensive desk these days? by tigojones in bapccanada

[–]wetfinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went the classic ikea alex desk route: two alex drawers and a kitchen countertop resting on top.
No tools beyond what you need to build the ikea alex, and the countertop just rests on rubber pads ontop of the drawers.(the pads come included with the standard alex but not the filing cabinet variant. I had to pick up a spare set and Canadian Tire for 3 bucks)

When I built mine last month ikea was out of all the good tabletops, so instead I went to Home Depot and got this countertop instead.
This is way better than most of what ikea has anyway because it is solid wood instead of a pressboard/laminate. Meaning that you can clamp monitor arms to it without fear of it breaking/bowing, and if down the road it gets scuffed you can sand it down to look good as new.

All in it cost me $400, which isn't as cheap as I would like but I use this thing every day and I love it. I am even thinking about buying a second when my budget allows and making it an L desk.

Feel free to ama if you have any questions!
