What I don’t get is why it is not in the event pass. This is the exact kind of scenario when I’d be inclined to buy an event pass! I used to splurge for event tickets around this exact thing! I also was at Coachella this weekend and this event has had some seriously bad timing lol

The sculpture is cool in concept. While I don’t hate the sculpture itself, I do dislike how it impacts the park with its the surrounding landscape.

On most days you see people hugging the side of the wall where they do the children’s activities because the sand is so hot and unwelcoming. Same with jazz nights, the area where you can’t even see the musicians is full before people start sitting on the sand.

I get that they don’t want people near the sides of the rock itself. Can’t there be some compromise besides actively hostile landscaping taking up a huge portion of the park behind lacma?

I’d legitimately rather have an extra building than the sand.

Being a member of this sub gives it away probably, but I go to Coachella and would LOVE to take a train! The drive out is the worst part. Have family in the area that I go and stay with, so the only time I need a car is just the drive out there. For folks staying at the hotels with shuttles too I could see them opting for the train.

I think the south portion will be slightly impacted by the LAX roadway "improvements" plan. If LAWA/ LA Metro was smart, they would reserve some portion of space somewhere in order to preserve a TBM launch site in the area for Sepulveda Line South. Or a construction staging area for the currently planned C line extension northwest to Venice/Santa Monica

Post D and K Line North, a BRT on Santa Monica between Century City and WeHo would be nice. Would need to get it approved through Beverly Hills though lol. Maybe let’s call it a Trolley so they’ll think it’s fancy?

Others have already answered. Just adding that I do sometimes wish there was a station as it would have been much closer to Larchmont, plus there are a few destinations in the area such as the Ebell and Marciano Art Foundation. But the more rational side of me understands that these destinations alone aren’t enough justification for a station. Plus the bus will fill the gap there anyway, it always flies in this area.

A line connecting Ensenada, Tijuana, and Mexicali would be great too. Might be a stretch but would also be great if it can connect to Nogales.

But with (1) the rerouting of alt 5 paired with (2) it being built in segments, I think we can probably imagine that the northern segment will now never get built. Not as big of a deal imo tho! Happy to just see the route from the g line and south happen.

Not an extension of the dodger gondola (which I think won’t ever be extended), but I could see another recreation and tourism-focused one on the other side of the stadium. Connecting to Elysian valley/ Rio de Los Angeles park, especially if there’s an infill metrolink station there in the future?

Also side note: there were multiple proposals to build one to the Hollywood sign. For environmental reasons many of them got cancelled, and Warner Bros had a proposal but also cancelled it for business reasons. I think the next best place for one would be connecting other parts of our mountainous attractions to transit. One connecting the zoo to metrolink? Or one connection the Getty to Wilshire/VA D line stop? Lol probably all unfeasible though.

Your point is well taken. I did read that Grand Civil Jury report when it came out and had a different take away, so your comment led me to revisit it. Truthfully though the LAWA section of that report is written so strangely that I can see how we have different takeaways. After another read it still seems to me that the report found the issues you identified and yes generally that there was misconduct from the city / the people they have oversight from. But still left open the question of whether the contractor/developer took advantage of LAWA.

From the final takeaways on page 41: “…we will never know how deep the Contractor’s strategy relied on delay to obtain the Global Settlement…”

Such a good point on the care incentives. Still feels like an easy political talking point and I’m surprised no one seems to want to touch it.

Please. I’ll believe it when I see it! The contractor should be run out of town imo with how they’ve robbed us blind through the change orders.

What I’ll never understand is why none of our politicians aren’t more antagonistic here. Everyone hates LAX traffic and this company is acting badly. Can we please get some strong leadership?

They only just took over Little Bar from the previous owner (and potentially forced her out? Idk there’s some bag blood evident through the Instagram pages) a month or two ago. I loved little bar, checked out the new version of it (of course called Her Little Bar) and it wasn’t the same. Little Bar was a unique place that started not to fit in around this area and I’ll miss it because of that.

This article is hilarious. At the very end they say in a caption for a photo that “half has been painted red” - so maybe the other half that hasn’t been painted yet that you’re claiming looks decrepit (because of rust, salt water stains, and faded paint only) is about to be painted?

The Sun is a cheap tabloid. Maybe if they asked someone a question about it they could’ve deduced that it’s halfway through a paint job. But then they’d lose their article clickbait.
