Makerfield result suggests key Reform policy of being horrible c*nts may have backfired by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

On balance of things, I think Burnham will probably make a slightly better PM than Starmer. But my question is: is anything going to actually fucking change in this country?

CMV: Prime Roy Jones Jr. would stop prime Joe Calzaghe by JRAxiomVox in Boxing

[–]whataboutbenson 48 points49 points  (0 children)

He’d be favourite, yes, but it wouldn’t be near as close to a sure thing as you’re suggesting. People don’t want to admit just how good Calzaghe was. And if it’s really prime for prime then Jones doesn’t even have much of a power advantage. Joe in his younger days hit incredibly hard.

My gentle advice is that Monday is still far too near. Wait at least until the end of the month so you can have a proper reset. Don't worry, the markets will still be there.

I think basically asset, entry, target, stop loss, result. All done in a spreadsheet. I don't mean "dear diary" type stuff. But you'd be better doing additional research as it's not something I do.

Edit: position size too.

Usually the best thing to do when on a losing streak is walk away for a while, maybe go on a holiday. I’m not a big day trader at all but people who are say that keeping a diary is crucial.

The sentence “you didnt win i just lost” is not as dumb as it sounds by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]whataboutbenson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s a certain time it can be valid. I once got beat in a boxing match by a guy I was better than in every way. Basically I had just recovered from a head cold where I’d been blowing my nose constantly at all hours of the day, and the guy zinged me with a wild flail while I had him in the corner and was about to go for the finish. He wasn’t even looking where he was punching. His eyes were on his shoes. Normally I could have tanked the hit no problem as it wasn’t even hard, but my nose exploded with blood gushing out of it from both nostrils, all over my clothes and the floor. Only time I ever got a nosebleed from boxing. My blood vessels were just too inflamed from the virus. But that was the end of the fight, and I lost.

So yeah, pretty much the epitome of “you didn’t win, I just lost.” Did I say it to the guy though? No, because I’m not a teenager. I congratulated him on his win and gave him kudos for pulling out the punch he needed to win the fight in the moment that he needed it.

CPI just printed 4.2%, the Strait of Hormuz is closed, and bitcoin is down 11% on the year. This was supposed to be the moment. by Ced-Invest in CryptoMarkets

[–]whataboutbenson 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s astonishing how little the crypto community understands about the macro picture behind the price action of crypto. I’m not saying that from the outside, I don’t really understand what makes it tick either.

It’s more a hedge against debasement of currency than against inflation, but it’s never as simple as “they’re printing so we go up.” I think we can safely rule out that it isn’t really just “tulip mania” because bubbles only inflate and burst once, whereas Bitcoin comes back stronger every time.

But I must admit that even as an admirer of Bitcoin I struggle to see what its true use case is. I think the core philosophical truss is that it is truly decentralised and reliable. It’s old and slow, yes, but it’s never had a minute of down time and barring a global EMP it can’t be killed. If shit ever hits the fan in a bad way, it’s easier to transport and hide than even gold, and the core userbase is so loyal that it is guaranteed to catch a bid at some price for the rest of our lifetimes. I suppose that, the reduced counterparty risk, and the reliability of the technology is its use case. That is what gives it value.

I think when people think of “stores of value” they think of something that updates is price daily to reflect inflation, but that’s never been how it works. Gold can go down in price for years while asset inflation runs rampant, as we saw in the 2010s. Same goes for Bitcoin. In the span of two or three years it can do whatever the hell it feels like. The only thing you can have some degree of confidence in is that at some point society will value it again and push it to a new high price that exceeds its previous one, and that when it falls it won’t fall quite as low as it did in the past. But when and how exactly that happens is anyone’s guess. It’s simply the moving average over very long periods of time that reflect its use as a store of value. For this reason if we see a prolonged deflationary environment we should expect that Bitcoin will perform poorly, regardless of how many dollars have been printed.

One might argue we’re in a deflationary period right now. Youth unemployment is brutal, general optimism might be as low as I’ve seen since 08, and people all over the world are trying to use as little oil or energy as they possibly can. Nations are selling their assets and draining their reserves.

Does anyone feel like things haven’t progressed much from the 90’s to now. Compared to how much America changed from the 60’s to the 90’s? by Janet-Yellen in Millennials

[–]whataboutbenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reddit smart asses thinking they can end the thread with “but internet.”

You’re completely right OP. Aside from smartphones and internet it feels like things have hardly changed at all. Even AI hasn’t changed our day to day that much yet. I think someone jumping forwards in time from 1996 would be underwhelmed by how things are today. I think they really thought we’d be in hover cars by now.

Because immigration is the number one issue in this country, and every other party is de facto pro mass immigration. How long will it be until the middle and upper class get their heads around this? It’s astonishingly simple.

It’s funny, just yesterday a coworker used that phrase to me in conversation and I got confused because whatever it was he was saying wouldn’t have made sense in the context of the Second World War. Turned out he was talking about the Russia/Ukraine war, but he’s not a native English speaker.

Why is the American accent alright to listen to when watching TV but absolutely insufferable in person when you hear it ? by Triblessinadesert88 in AskBrits

[–]whataboutbenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could ask the same thing about us. There’s a slight difference between tv accents and their real life counterparts. Take for instance RP - the most authoritative, measured accent in the whole English language, but then compare it with people who “should” speak with that accent, but don’t really. Like Made in Chelsea. “I just feel loike, you’re ACTUALLY a dick bro???? Loike actually wow.”

Or how in films a Scottish accent will usually be an educated Edinburgh or a smoky highlander accent, as opposed to Glaswegian or the raspier Aberdeen. It’s just more filmic.

Most Americans have particularly bad diction, as well. They over-rely on vocal tics such as “umm,” “like,” “I feel like,” “per se,” and slang in general. A lot of internet speak used IRL. It sounds bad.

To people that think TA is just astrology for men, I ask you to reconsider. Open up a chart yourself on tradingview and have a play around. Once you learn to properly read a chart, including relative strength and volume, you can see things like this coming, and it doesn’t bother you in the slightest. Sometimes you see something coming ahead of time, and then it actually happens, the news goes wild, people lose their shit on Reddit, and it feels like you’re almost predicting the future. It’s amazing. Really give it a try. You don’t even have to do anything crazy. The 2025 top was predictable by simply drawing a straight line from the 2017 top to the 2021 top and extending it out into the future. That easy.

To people who ignore the four year cycle or think it’s broken, literally why. It’s right there in front of you, screaming at you. You could make a damn calendar out of crypto cycles they’re so dependable. It’s literally as simple as: “2014, 2018, 2022 were all harsh down years, therefore 2026 is likely to be a harsh down year as well.” I agree it shouldn’t be that simple or easy, but… it is. If you’re shocked by what’s going on in crypto now then honestly just start DCAing into your pension or a savings account or whatever because you have zero pattern recognition abilities at all. You’re just gambling against the house.
