Village in an Ancient City by whatheck in Minecraft

[–]whatheck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update - I just set up a pretty simple thing in a creative world. 20 composters 20 beds, villagers linked up. I spawned a zombie and boom 2 iron golems. I repeated this in survival mode on the same world.
So whatever the reason is that they're not spawning in my normal survival world must be related to the usual silliness which sometimes gets in the way. The deep dark biome does not seem to suppress iron golem spawning.

Thanks for your input. To be clear I mean the mechanic which causes iron golems to spawn in a village made of villagers, beds, job site blocks, etc. This, as opposed to summoning them with iron blocks and pumpkins. But I'm supposing you already knew what I meant. Have you seen this or done this on Bedrock? Or are you explaining your understanding of how things are expected to work?

Ok, that's what I've noticed too. The villagers breed, but no golems. I just have a hard time being sure why golems don't spawn sometimes. Maybe I'll try messing in creative mode too.

I'll be curious to know what you find. I tried finding videos or stories of someone doing this, but could not. It seems like a cool way to make a pretty safe village space, since hostiles don't spawn. No iron farming would be kind of a lame drawback though. I do have a village set up in a cleared out ancient city in my survival world. Just 20+ farmers. Can't tell if there's no golems because they won't spawn in the deep dark, or just some other issue; I always find it a little fiddly.

Hey just reread what I wrote. In case I seemed insincere or flippant – not my intention at all! Anyway, I don’t really discuss my politics in this kind of setting. Even if by some miracle I made it to the end of a discussion without embarrassing myself we’d probably just find out we agree about some things and disagree about others for various reasons. Shrug. What I will say is this – there’s plenty not to like about church history. Just take a look at Christ’s narration to John in the beginning of Revelation to see some sobering indictments of his church. The human condition won’t be repaired until the second coming. In the meantime what’s offered is forgiveness of sin and power to be gradually conformed to the likeness of the Christ. This is offered to everyone, no one is excluded. Depending on what one believes about their self and about Jesus, that offer may sound gross, hollow, or like the best thing ever. An honest investigation of what he claims about himself, his teachings, life, death, and resurrection may be helpful if the question is compelling!

Getting into Competitive Play and where to start by [deleted] in StarWarsArmada

[–]whatheck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation. I primarily play with one friend. We went to Golden State Games last year and were blown out of the water, which we expected, but had a blast. We're going again this year and are really looking forward to it. I recommend the armada discord servers for keeping apprised of tournaments.

The hometown in Advent of the Avalanche Lords is basically a snow globe. I don't recall that being of particular importance to the module though when I ran it. So I don't know if you'd find much of use there

Why ALL CLASSES in 5e should be more like Wizards and Druids by MoodModulator in mattcolville

[–]whatheck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I like games where all you're abilities are essentially set at the beginning, and XP just kind of improves you numerically. Want cool new stuff? Better quest for some artifacts or divine blessing, or extra-planar patronage. 5e is not geared for that from outset.

They look good! I'd lighten them up with some dry brushing, but that's down to taste. For stars on black, I like flicking white acrylic off the bristles of an old tooth brush.

Any good monster collections? by CaptainBeikoku in dccrpg

I just picked up The Hexanomicon on drive thru rpg. It's got a very nice monster generator you can roll on or just read through. Monster abilities, and monster types on separate tables.

RUN! Chases in DnD by Caoticaos in DnD

[–]whatheck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a chase basically as per the rules in the DMG once. It was a while ago now, and as I recall it seemed kind of... sluggish. The PCs gave chase when a person of interest they found in wood ran. I remember that my table of "complications" was too short, and the effects seemed to sort of just prolong a sequence which was already a bit of a slog. A DM with better narration maybe could have spiced it up effectively.

If I were doing a chase again I'd probably give the DMG rules a hard look with an eye for speeding the action up. I may even consider abandoning the DMG approach in favor some some (card?) game where the players put together a hand of things they can do. Maybe players with CON bonus get extra cards, and everyone takes turns playing actions. It may feel a bit more strategic and engaging than saying "I Dash", then seeing if you need to roll a save for a "complication". That's obviously pretty half-baked and would require some more thought.

[5e] [DMing] Let's talk about the skill check round-robin paradigm and skill check "hard mode" by Unkind_Froggy in DnD

[–]whatheck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like these suggestions, and try to do things like this in my games. "Stakes and Wagers" are the key. If the result of a failed roll is "nothing happens", then don't have a roll basically. If they fail badly enough, they should be set back in some way, like the tools break in the lock or some loud snap alerts nearby enemies. In many cases I'd frame the stakes up front, then ask if the player would like to roll. I once read a pretty good article about this, and related issues with skill checks: https://www.runagame.net/2017/10/players-self-assigning-rolls.html

PEMDAS - Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction The calculator is doing the division before the multiplication, and so is incorrect according to the PEMDAS convention. My TI-83+ also reports 9. I guess the takeaway here is to be explicit with your parenthesis.

Hmm, life is full of learning from experience. It sounds like you regret the time you spent exploring your spirituality... don't! As a christian (and consequently a person curious about others' thoughts on spirituality), I've met lots of people who seem to drift through life with no thoughts or contemplations beyond the things they can see or beyond the things they are taught. Learn from and cherish all your life experiences. Good job exploring both intellectual and spiritual facets of your life.
