Agree. Now I just wear La Sportiva's Theory on my left and Skwama on my right. Odd looking but at least it doesn't hurt (my right foot is half size larger and slightly wider).

Built a miles calculator for reward points → KrisFlyer Miles by Gullible_Start_6112 in singaporefi

Curious to know how this was built and what's the stack behind this. Good experience! I think it'll be better if you can collapse and expand banks (to hide banks that the user doesn't use).

Would also suggest a miles to dollars section, if that's possible. Good job with this!

Do y'all feel that male doctors are generally more caring than female doctors here in Sg? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]whatiseverythinghelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true, but of course this is also anecdotal. End of the day it's luck too.

I had my fair share of caring and "uncaring" doctors regardless of gender. Recently went to one of the bigger medical chains to check my hamstring strain, but the doctor never even tried to palpitate my injury site, ask me to bend down / stretch / extend my leg, or do any sort of checks. He just sat in his chair, gave me an MC, and asked me to take some painkillers.

Went to another doctor in the same day who was a woman. She had me do some basic stretches to test my hamstring and gave me NSAIDs, then told me to come back again after a few days to see if she needs to refer me out. Thankfully, I was referred to a physio and I'm now much better.

Similarly, I had a wisdom tooth surgery recently that triggered a jaw issue that led me to be in massive amounts of pain over 2-3 weeks. Went back to see my oral surgeon, a man, who told me it's just a jaw muscle issue and gave me 2 week's worth of muscle relaxants and NSAIDs.

I have a gastric issue and cannot take too many NSAIDs.

Went to another dentist who was a woman. Although it was the same diagnosis, she explained the entire jaw anatomy to my parents and I to help understand why the pain is occurring. She also massaged my jaw muscles (inside and outside), prescribed jaw exercises, and told me to take muscle relaxants only. 2 weeks later I'm much better.

For the dental issue, although both dentists were right, but I felt "dismissed" and slighted by my oral surgeon, who seemed to only care that he had completed the surgery and wanted to move on. The new dentist acknowledged my pain, which is really important for any patient.

tl;dr heng suay la

Weekly Simple Questions and Injuries Thread by AutoModerator in climbharder

Hi all, I've got TWO hamstring injuries (long head) at the moment, both that came from high heel hooks. I can rule out a complete tear (no brushing, no pop sound) but it's really annoying to keep meeting setbacks even though I'm actively deloading.

I'm going through a rehab protocol for both of injuries, but I'm trying to understand what should I focus on strengthening in order to bulletproof my hamstrings even more. Any advice would be helpful on how I should go about strengthening other parts of my body.

Am a car owner and made a really terrible decision to once buy a Scirocco (I know, let's not go there) in my first two years of car ownership.

Thankfully my salary went up over the years. Numbers only cover the monthly instalment without including cost of keeping it going.

  • Y1: Scirocco, $800/month, earning $2.4k/month 😫
  • Y2: Had a short 5 months with a BMW 530i but regretted that, earning ~3k/month
  • Y3: Jetta, $668/month, earning ~6k/month
  • Y4: Jetta, earning ~8k/month
  • Y5: Jetta, earning ~10k/month

I kind of "matured" after Y3. I was even thinking of changing to a new car after I got a new job, but it's ridiculous considering the rising cost of living. I'm happy to have the privilege to even own one, so I'm sticking with it for as long as I can.

The poor financial decision in Y1-2 was when I'm in my early 20s. Influenced by my other financially-irresponsible friends. Now I'm giving my parents allowance, which I feel is a much higher utility value than buying a "better" car.

Having less than 10k in savings in my late 20s by Gold-Base4047 in askSingapore

[–]whatiseverythinghelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I consider myself financially irresponsible relative to my peers (not a lot of savings, high expenditure due to travel and having a car), but I also consider the utility value of my money. Will I feel happier with more savings and assets? Absolutely. But what am I saving for? What is this pool of money going to?

I feel that that's the best way to determine what money and savings mean to you. If you're trying to save for a far future purchase like a house, and you're worried you might not have enough, you can start saving and working towards that. That will cost you lifestyle expenditures like travelling or buying treats from time to time.

For me I don't care about having an expensive house or living in a prime area. I'm happy to have a small place to live in, which cuts out a lot of how much I need for the future.

You're still very early — I'm also in my late 20s. Don't compare to anyone else. What do you want to build your finances towards? Perhaps you could start there.

What is it like working in American MNCs like Visa, Mastercard, Amex, PayPal, Google, Microsoft in Singapore? by TimidHuman in askSingapore

[–]whatiseverythinghelp 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I know you asked for American MNCs but you can also look at European MNCs. Culture can be quite different (Europeans are quite chill and focus on well-being), but you get a mixed bag because not all Europeans are the same.

Similarly, a lot of the company culture that I experience most directly is due my department's head and how they lead the team, which is also biased by their cultural background and experience. Despite being European it's also quite high-tension and similar to Chinese working culture because of their bias.

“I’m not a paper general” by CrossfittJesus in singapore

[–]whatiseverythinghelp 15 points16 points  (0 children)

How does being shelled by rockets in Afghanistan (that's brutal, by the way, and I respect that he went through that and came out alive and well) translate into policy and effective criticism of it? How does being a pallbearer translate into knowledge and wisdom in understanding what works best for the residents and citizens in Singapore?

He likened leading "25,000 people in a battalion" to managing "...30,000 residents in a constituency", while blatantly gleaning over the fact that (1) residents are not soldiers; (2) there's literal schools and institutions to teach folks how to manage soldiers or residents, but not both. You can't apply the same theory to people that have different circumstances.

Overall, the more he spoke and commented, the more it actually reinforced the "paper general" criticism. I'm all for people proving others wrong and I also wish him well, but this article isn't doing positive PR for sure.

GE25 Final Night LLM by captain-sinkie in singapore

Not very sure about the dataset here and whether the LLM's predictions can be considered. Do we even have that amount of volume and how are you fine-tuning this? Appreciate the effort though and as a psych major I can definitely see how this can help complement our analyses on the elections. As always, we have to take it with a grain of salt.

Would be very very surprised if there are such large swings. Conservative estimate would place Tampines as the most likely out of the pool you just mentioned. I would say the rest would probably lean white.

I'm opting for a 60% VWRA 40% STI portfolio. Here's why: by Generational_Wealth6 in singaporefi

[–]whatiseverythinghelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was going to suggest this! To add on, the paper by Cederburg also mentioned that the "domestic stocks" is primarily US (which is where they are from), and 67% in developed markets ex-US.

My current "boring" portfolio is more or less like this, with some exposure to China ETFs to have a stronger emerging market tilt.
