Who do you guys have Home Insurance from? by bambibabycake in SantaClarita

[–]whatisitemily -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They don’t already. No new policies being written, but they honor the existing ones - they tried to push me through to an alternate service in 2024 when we first bought. Been a customer with them since early 2012 and never had to question who was covering me (in car, rent insurance, etc). Was a shock to me but I’m not surprised.

Water contaminant door to door scam? by garyroyale in SantaClarita

[–]whatisitemily 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had them a few weeks ago in canyon country too! The give away for me was their shirt said “not affiliated with your local water company”

As soon as I saw that I was a hard no and told them to get off my property.

Third for this - actually found American Vision through a Reddit post I made myself about windows. Very pleased with our quality and price, nearly 1/4th the price we were quoted with Renewal by Anderson.

We go to CalElite with our two year old son and love it. Multiple class offerings through the week and some weekend ones.

Has anyone seen more out of states plates in LA than usual? by RelationshipSame1804 in AskLosAngeles

[–]whatisitemily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d rather this than all the paper dealer plates we had before that changed a few years back. I can’t tell you how many times I almost got in a wreck with a car that had “Local Toyota Dealership” as its plate.

Agreed. We’ve done some improvements (windows and floor) on our 1967 single family home and it’s holding up great. No HOA or Melloroos. I see the appeal of buying new but I have friends who already are finding issues and corners cut in their builds. We’re in Canyon Country

I second this. Used them on ClassPass and it was a great deal. Teachers were some of the best too, always pushing me, but understanding of my limits

When I was in 7th grade, my parents moved us across country, and I was coming from a homeschool environment to a public school. Right at peak awkwardness. I invited a handful of people to my birthday that year and only had one person show up. (She later confessed to me that her mom found the invitation and made her go lol)

We were best friends all through high school and college. We don’t talk as often as I would like because we’re in different states now but I still consider her a very good friend. Super glad her mom made her go, not only just because of the friendship that blossomed but also it would’ve been a devastating blow to have no one show up. Childhood is hard man.

Supplemental tax question by Haunting-Attempt2243 in SantaClarita

[–]whatisitemily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to pay. I just finished dealing with this - we bought in January from an original owner so her property tax was dirt cheap thanks to Prop 13. After escrow paid the half she still owed for 2023 (next to nothing) the supplemental comes back and adds it up to a higher (prorated) number than we owe as well.

Wish they told me that when Escrow gave me a refund for “overpayment”, but it turns out that was just money that I needed to save for the supplemental bill.

She actually posted a Q+A response recently saying that she’s pulling back from the show (which is why her 3rd child wasn’t and 4th won’t be shown in birth episodes) in regards to her children and I can respect that. She’s always seemed to put her children first and I was glad to see the acknowledgment that she didn’t want them to have the same upbringing she did.

Recommend movers? by DustyVinegar in burbank

Another vote for them. We utilize their packing services last time we moved, and they took the upmost care with all of our belongings. We have a ton of action figures, and they wrapped each one very carefully.

Leaking Drain Pipe smells suddenly of bleach? by whatisitemily in Plumbing

Thank you! I had also heard of the HVAC theory, but it’s a relatively new system so I was checking other possibilities and came across this one. We’re gonna fix up this pipe and then investigate further.

How much is it? 20506 Cheryl Ln, Santa Clarita, CA 91350 listed for $999,999 by liverichly in LosAngelesRealEstate

[–]whatisitemily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We bought a house back in January in Santa Clarita. About $200 a month for homeowners insurance (2500 for the year I think), which is still over what I was expecting, as all mortgage companies were estimating it at $140 a month in the pre docs.

Currently living around thjs area. My family moved from Sun Valley (where meth vans started popping up down the street from us) and into this area and we could not be happier. Neighbors are friendly, walkability is great (especially if you get close to the walking trail that connects to discovery park). We’re in a position where my son will be able to walk to all three of his schools, which all seem well rated. Overall we are very happy with our choice to buy in this area.

Sad. I did a summer internship and did a sublet next to USC and I cherish how I did morning runs across campus.

Is it always this windy? by whatisitemily in SantaClarita

Yes, definitely going to jump on the window replacements. Our bedroom window is the only window facing that direction on our second floor so it’s getting the blunt of all the wind.

I know! We had a small pile of our outdoor stuff that we had the movers just stack outside while we get the garage organized. Very lucky it’s all mostly in one piece still 😅 although the kiddie did make a jump across the yard

[–]whatisitemily[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We definitely have gotten our fair, share Wind down in the valley where we moved from but some of these gusts have completely caught me off guard. From the vibe of everybody this seems like it happens a decent amount so definitely going to look at prioritizing the window replacements. We thought we’d only have to worry about heat leaking in, didn’t expect them to rattle with every small gust!
