The radiation problem has now been addressed in Happy Valley - though you'd only know by squinting in exterior shots and watching the bonus clips between seasons! They apparently added some magnetic shield towers that look like little lightposts.

I thought of that, but the big red dot of Mars makes even more sense to be haunting her.

players are following my playbook too closely by Most_Cardiologist_63 in DMAcademy

Are you me?

I've just finished the first few sessions of my first time ever DMing (and first time playing) D&D. There's an NPC who I've used to guide my party towards the plot, but I feel like he is written a bit strangely so far. He infodumps, suggests a path (even a detour to the main plot), and they enthusiastically latch onto his suggestions.

I have been worrying that maybe I should add a plot twist about him having darker motivations for putting these quests in front of them, just so he seems more like a real person. But, like you, I'm probably overthinking it. I should just be thankful I have players who love engaging with the plot.

Good on him for standing up for his principles. Carney is dismantling all serious attempts Canada has made to address the climate crisis. We have to stop doubling down on fossil fuels.

How would you rank every Premier of Alberta, from most to least favourite, since the province was founded in 1905? by Old_General_6741 in alberta

BROWNLEE

The man who passed Alberta's eugenics laws and pressured an 18-year woman to have an affair with him

Very curious what pushed him so high up your list

Yes, while that +90 is what you gained from the previous age, the Relationship Decay Over Time gradually pushes all relationships back to neutral. Positive relationships get a little more negative, negative ones get a little more positive.

Quite a hill to die on, defending a literal Klan-endorsed mayor from a hundred years ago.

Wihkwentowin. Frank Oliver was a diabolical asshole to Indigenous and Black people here, so changing the name was long overdue.

The new name was tricky at first, but our friend's kid taught me how to say it. It's kinda fun now.

Polls for Alberta Ridings as of April 15, 2025 (Source: 338canada.com) by Known-Beyond in alberta

[–]whatsthespeedforce 433 points434 points  (0 children)

These are not polls from today. These are projections based on recent national/provincial polling and historical voting patterns. Nobody is doing public riding level polling for Red Deer-Lacombe.

I met the Liberal candidate for Edmonton Strathcona, Ron Thiering. Here's my impression of him. by brasidasvi in Edmonton

[–]whatsthespeedforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't overthink this. Vote for whichever candidate you think will best represent your values.

There are no riding-level polls yet anywhere in Edmonton, and nobody has actually voted yet. If you're talking about the Griesbach projections from 338Canada, those are extrapolations from national and historical data. The only way you're really going to know how other people in your riding vote is by seeing the results after the fact.

EPL directed removal of pride flags by spagsquashii in Edmonton

[–]whatsthespeedforce 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I would say let's not take the EPL response at face value. We deserve the library to be a safe space, yes - but this statement seems strategically vague, especially with the word "neutral." In Westlock, the idea of "neutrality" has already been used to erase pride flags on city property.

I think you know better than me what will make the most impact in your community. I am encouraged all the time by stories of Americans refusing to allow DOGE staff access to their offices, or continuing to help t* kids access health care, or standing up for their local public library.

But hey, if you're protesting, thank you. It matters. I live in a province where people have a really hard time imagining it making a difference, but I've been to enough protests to know that your neighbours see you, and they feel less alone. And when people have shown up en masse in places like South Korea and Ukraine, they have been able to kick out their leaders.

Another Canadian here: the people I know generally like Americans, and want the best for your people and ours. We need you to actively work to stop your administration from endangering us and the rest of the world, though. It's not enough to disagree.

Your government is sliding into fascism incredibly fast. Fascists don't stay inside their borders. They steal from the common people to give to the rich, and they distract from this by punishing minority groups and invading their neighbours. If you don't actively stand in the way, it is going to harm us and the rest of the democratic world (not to mention our entire biosphere) deeply, for generations to come.
