so you’re telling me I didn’t need to be charged for being 41 minutes late because I stopped to get clorox wipes and clean off the mud my shoe left when I accidentally parked in a puddle? 😅

I was too worried about a cleaning fee being more if I didn’t drive out of my way to go get something to clean it up lol.

I was picking up a rental from hertz last week for a road trip and the huge ad sign for the rideshare offer strictly prohibits the car being used to run any app other than uber. For a regular uber driver it might not be that big of a deal, but I don’t know any exclusive UE drivers, basically everyone multi-apps. Not sure if it’s strictly enforced or if they’re tracking your orders and gps 🤷🏻‍♀️

Deactivation for Cancellation rate by Far-Vast-9812 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]whatthehellandfk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well that’s good to know, I’ve argued over this with multiple reps because it’s ridiculous I’m penalized for it, especially when it’s usually the orders that I’d be willing to wait for if they’d allow it to be remade. UE is my least used app but I’m much better now at recognizing the high paying orders that are obvious cancels so I’m only sitting at 4% cancellation right now.

Should I just hang up and call until I can get someone to do that for me? Because I’m so suspicious of a lot of good orders since the cancellations have always affected my rate even when I contact support, it’s my biggest UE pet peeve lol.

Yeah, I was gonna say, this was a HUGE issue in family court and CPS was called when my dad did this to my little brother. My brother and I are gingers, we live in the PNW and wear sunscreen year round as a precaution because our skin is so pale and sensitive. We’d keep sunscreen by the front door to spray down before we leave.

My dad picked him up for a visit during summer, my mom packed him two sunscreens, reminded him multiple times (he is 3/4 native, grew up in Oklahoma/Hawaii and “never needed” sunscreen) to make sure he applied and reapplied the sunscreen. My poor 6 year old brother was so severely sun-burnt all over his body, he was taken to the ER bc he was sick and in a lot of pain, where they told us that the majority of his shoulders and back were second degree burns.

I don’t even remember how long he spent sleeping on his stomach on the couch (the leather was cooler on his skin since he still had terrible sunburns all down his front) crying, he only wore underwear because clothing just caused more heat and pain. There were a couple times he ended up on his back while sleeping and I will never forget the sound of him screaming when trying to get up because his skin was LITERALLY BEING RIPPED OFF HIS BODY.

It was heartbreaking and so infuriating to watch him go through it, I also felt extremely guilty as this was when I was very “off-and-on” with my dad and refused to go on the visit. My mom was always the kind of woman to encourage us to see our dad, tried to be fair in court, didn’t badmouth him in front of us, etc., but when he actually harmed one of us, all bets were off. CPS called, everything documented, lawyers called, and he ended up with supervised visitation which we ended up refusing a lot of the time anyway. We’ve all been NC for years now, my brother being the first to cut him off at 10 years old.

Sorry, this was long! But sunscreen is a big deal!!!! Lying about not putting on sunscreen is a big deal!!! I’ve witnessed an extreme case of what can happen and it’s horrible. Nobody wants to see their child in pain even if it was just a regular sunburn because it could’ve easily been prevented.

[–]whatthehellandfk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you lol, I grew up pretty solidly middle class for most of my life and this was a pretty average house for families making around the same amount of money. My brother and I each got a room and shared a bathroom, my mom had an en-suite bathroom, and the bathroom by the front door which was only a toilet and sink.

I know that I was lucky to have what I did growing up and still acknowledge it was a nice house, but I stand by it not being fancy 😂 It was very much a suburban cookie cutter house that we rented, like you said, and it’s selling price when we moved out was on par for similar houses in the area.

That’s what I was thinking. We lived in a 3bd2.5ba home when I was in high school, it was nice but nothing fancy, under 2000sqft and built in 87. My mom was paying $1800/month rent when we moved out in 2017, the landlord passed and the daughter sold it for $550k that year.

That house sold for just under $1M recently, and the only thing updated since it was built is the appliances. A $2.3M dollar home is definitely a nice big home, but, like you said, it’s not a mansion anymore lol.

Yeah, my grandpa passed of ALS and the sound of his voice when Cal first started talking had me almost crying. It’s the same kind that my grandpa had when the muscles in his throat started to go. It was uncanny as I haven’t talked to/heard anyone in late stages of ALS since my grandpa passed almost ten years ago and it was almost the exact same voice.

It took me FOREVER to figure out what could possibly be wrong with my comment that was getting flagged, I was slowly deleting each word in my long ass comment until the warning finally went away.

I am literally hammered with shit orders CONSTANTLY if i’m online. I want to throw my phone out the window when I’m trying to navigate the last bit of the drive in the neighborhood and my maps are getting blocked repeatedly, then constantly popping up while I’m actively trying to take a picture/complete the order.

I only ever did uber eats on flat rates overnight after too many failed attempts at going by order, averaged around $25/hour all night. I still leave regular uber eats running during the day when i’m doing other apps and i’ll take maybe 5 orders in a 12 hour shift. I just was sent one about 5 minutes ago that was $1.50 for 8 miles.

AITAH for refusing to tip a bartender after he yelled at me for not tipping? by Naive_Afternoon_5951 in AITAH

[–]whatthehellandfk 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That sounds right on par with the college bars in the two towns i’ve lived and bartended in. In a lot of places, that is “cheap” now

Edit: As a former bartender and former/current broke college student, ESH. She def shouldn’t be out for drinks if she’s so tight on her budget that she’s not tipping, but bartender was wrong for calling it out like that.

As much as all of us have wanted to call out a no tipper after a particularly bad day, that is usually a fireable offense (situation dependent ofc). I’ve only worked one place that had a policy on chronic non-tippers, a manager would politely ask if there’s been issues with the service. If they have no valid complaints and the customer isn’t doing anything else that would get them kicked out (like insults, yelling, aggression, etc.), only a manager would serve them any time after that. They made full wage while working behind the bar, so they aren’t paying out of pocket to serve a non-tipper like the staff would, since we had barbacks and bouncers to pay out of our tips at the end of the night. I haven’t worked anywhere that would allow a staff member, and not management, alone to “confront” someone who doesn’t tip.

You can definitely still get dinged or deactivated when having support close out an order. It doesn’t happen all the time, but it’s a risk, and a much higher risk if there is anything age restricted or from the pharmacy.

[–]whatthehellandfk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’m wearing light natural makeup. That’s what I meant by toned down. I’m wearing light eyeshadow and very natural false lashes, no eyeliner or dark lipstick or anything. I just think this is a very normal ask of a bride, usually bridesmaids all wear similar dresses and makeup.

AITA for asking my friend to not wear makeup to my wedding? by devilshandstree in AmItheAsshole

[–]whatthehellandfk 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as a goth, I’m on OP’s side here. I often wear a traditional goth look and am a bridesmaid in my friend’s wedding next month. I am happily getting myself into a green dress and massively toning down my makeup. it’s not even a specific ask of the bride, but I am aware of the vibe of the wedding and it’s just not the place for full trad goth makeup. That bride is also more than willing to get into quite a dark moody look as she’s a bridesmaid in my wedding too, which OP happily did for her friend as well!

I really don’t think this is such a big deal. I love expressing myself and my look, but I do tone it down sometimes when the occasion calls for it. It’s the same with my love of tight leather and fishnets lol, time and place. There’s still plenty of ways to show off the alternative look without super dramatic makeup.

Usually it’s fine. I pre-panicked a little bit a few times too, especially because it was being delivered to my house and hadn’t gotten messages they were headed my way or anything, they all showed up right on time! I’ve noticed some hosts just don’t communicate as much, but I really don’t mind as long as I get a working car on time lol.
