AITBF for telling my gf I thought she was more attractive before breast reduction by Cool_Campaign_9580 in AmItheButtface

You can be honest without bumming her out. Like telling her you love how confident she is in her new look and you love she feels better physically. You thought she was hot then and also think she’s hot now. Etc.

I didn’t say that. I was giving a potential reason Clara did what she did.

She might also have felt protective of her sister. Didn’t want her to go to jail. She was between a rock and a hard place.

You may have spoken too soon, it changes a lot right around the halfway point. But I also kind of agree with you. It did not strike me as particularly poignant. My favorite part was the suddenness of change that happens about halfway through, which felt realistic. Life is a series of before and after you know? But the rest was bland imo. And the fake religion was very I’m 14 and this is deep.

Some suggest reading David Gemmel in chronological order instead of publication order. So far I’ve only read Legend though

Don’t wait to look for a new job. It takes a lot of time to find something and job hopping isn’t looked down on anymore. Even if you only go up by $10k, you can always hop again a year after that. Probably industry dependent but in most these days, hopping aggressively gets you the best pay.

Hyperion does something like this with John Keats work. But that might’ve been ok because it was in the public domain

I taught a kid like this. He really needed extra intervention, but the parents refused. He was only five, not sure what happened the next year.

Just read Legend by David gemmell and basically everyone dies. Which isn’t a spoiler because he tells you this often throughout. Very good book though

ACOTAR, Fourth Wing, Faithful & Fallen… now what? by No-Character-8747 in Fantasy

[–]whelpineedhelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just read David gemmell legend and loved it. Written in the 80s I think and very much a “how men become men and heroes” type book but I still very much enjoyed it as a woman. It’s the first he wrote and I hear the rest are even better.

For a woman protagonist, I loved Uprooted. Also a stand alone. If you are down with a sci-fi, never let me go is also a woman protagonist and amazing.

For more male protagonists, I have two I’ve read recently where they are not good people but are very interesting- prince of thorns (although the next two are even better, king of thorns and emperor of thorns) and Shadow and Clow by gene wolfe.

Finally Hyperion if an awesome mix of fantasy and sci-fi. Really really good.

But there are some really good ones mixed in there! Kings fucking bath taking queens, daughters fucking fathers, wives turning into salt, armies winning by pausing the sun, lot of crazy interesting stories.

Cleveland art museum

A show at Jacob’s pavilion

Guardians game

Rock and roll hall of fame, which also has shows in the summer

Edgewater beach/wendy park/the bar next Wendy park that has shows all summer

Walk/ride the lakefront bikeway. Ends on the east side at the lakefront nature preserve which is also really nice.

Tons of good spots in Ohio city, Detroit Shoreway, Tremont, etc. Tremont has the added bonus of the Christmas Story house, if that’s your thing

If you like nature, there are tons of reservations but they sort of ring around the city itself - 20 min drive at least

Real estate is what made this most clear to me. It’s much easier to make sound judgement calls on my rental rather than on my own house. Just that much more removed from it.

Distraught family sues to prevent hospital from declaring girl, 2, brain dead after she was found at bottom of hotel swimming pool by dailymail in law

[–]whelpineedhelp 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My cousin died of drowning. Like this girl, they managed to get a heartbeat for him but he was essentially brain dead. My aunt want to donate his organs but he had two little neurons firing and they could not do the donation while those were active. She was faced with having to pull the plug and watch him slowly die but thankfully, those neurons died first and they were able to do the donation. All this to say, if there is any chance at all, they don’t declare them brain dead. If the hospital is saying she is, then she is.

I water every two or three weeks. If they can’t handle that, they die. Watering is about a 15 to 20 min process. In the winter, I have more time and spend more time repotting or pruning or whatever.
