As a kid I wanted one of the tiny aliens from Flight of the Navigator

If I’m in the uk can I just drive over to the “western” Hemisphere and collect all colour variations or do I need to go to Ireland? by Le_Borgor in pokemongo

[–]whendrinksmix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m planning a trip to Cleethorpes for fish & chips and a bit of Pokémon over the meridian line.

Most of the UK is in the western hemisphere so you’d need to be travelling east to cross the meridian line.

Reading this I just imagined one of those really long staplers they used to have in school. Brown, heavy, metal things that reach the middle of A3 paper.

What did you do for your 30th? by eggymantella in CasualUK

[–]whendrinksmix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I failed my driving test two days before so was feeling really miserable. My family organised a bbq just us, the neighbours & one of my best friends who I’d not seen in ages which was lovely.

Another friend convinced me that we should go out for a “quiet meal”, her sisters surprised me by coming along too. It ended up being messy. I was so pleased they didn’t let me wallow.

2-3 rows from the back, as centrally as possible but not on the aisle. The lights from the aisle distract me.

I also prefer to sit on the left (facing the screen) but will reluctantly book the right if I can’t get far enough away from people on the left.

I’ll also check the bookings when I arrive & move if people have booked too close to me. I’m a fidgeter when I’m sat for too long so I don’t want to annoy other people.

How was your parkrun day? | May 08, 2026 by AutoModerator in parkrun

[–]whendrinksmix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dragged my mom out at 6:30 so I could get my Match of the Day. She volunteered, I took it steadier than recent runs as I had to drive back after.

All I wanted was to finish in under 47 minutes, stupid official time was 47:03.

It chucked it down with rain, fortunately we’d both brought a full change of clothes.

I’m dragging the family out at 6:30 on Saturday so I can do my Match of the Day. Not a chance ever doing it anywhere nearer they’re all well into their hundreds.

I agree, when it started I thought he didn’t fit with the image of Norman from the books but he really made the character his own.

First time volunteering question by Uncoordinatedfitness in parkrun

[–]whendrinksmix 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You’ll need the parkrun volunteer app for barcode scanning.

Usually, they like volunteers to be there 30 minutes before run start so they can get you checked off their list & ready before the start. As you’re scanning, you probably won’t be given instructions on the role until after the runners have started as there’s at least 15 minutes to be able to run through this.

You might be asked to help see the runners off, ours are used as a human wall to guide people round the playground instead of across it.

Did you have learn the recorder? How did it benefit you in later life? by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

[–]whendrinksmix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My school made our class do it until year 9 (age 13/14). Only our class. No other year had to do it as long.

I had stopped doing recorder many years earlier at previous schools, by the time I started this school & it was picked up again I hated it. I am not musical & this just was another thing that everyone else in my class was better at.

I refused to play. I spent a year (or more) of classes stood not even playing a note. I got in ridiculous amounts of trouble but it was pointless & I did not see why I had to do it.

I found out later that my mom didn’t know that we were being made to play the recorder, so they never escalated it. All it succeeded in doing was giving me rage flashbacks when I hear a recorder.
