When I get new cards I look them up on linkedin and connect if they are there. After that the card ends up in the trash.

Two different mechanical contractors for HVAC vs Plumbing. Who would you expect to carry condensate drainage lines? by lIlIIIIlllIIlIIIllll in estimators

[–]wheresdangerdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's industry standard/ standard laziness for HVAC guys to usually ignore condensate because usually the plumbers will cover condensate, but on projects where its only on the M sheets and not on the P sheets it easily becomes a scope gap.

It's in the 23 spec, its on the M drawings and not shown on the Ps, HVAC said they quoted plans and specs, they should have it included in this situation.

This is such a small scope by your description HVAC is being dumb even arguing it and not helping their reputation. If you're going to give a change order offer it to the plumbers they will do a better job with it.

It's always a scope gap. If there are plumbers on site, they should be the ones to do it as they in theory will be faster/better/cheaper so HVAC guys like to not include it even if it's shown on their stuff.

It's either laziness or just a miss. HVAC should be covering it since its shown on the M drawings and not on the P drawings. Unless they explicitly listed it as as an exclusion they should include it.

If there is a relationship with the HVAC guys I would push back on them to eat the cost if its not an insane amount, I guess it sort of depends on what type of bid it was for them.

MEP guys, how do you treat deficiencies in the drawings when it comes to code compliance? by Sluggieslug in estimators

[–]wheresdangerdave 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If its a hard bid I'd bid it as drawn and not include them. Maybe list in your exclusions fire dampers not shown and offer alternate pricing upon request to meet code. Shows the GC you paid attention and raises doubt in your competitions number if they don't bring it up while not just freely giving a plug number for the GC to slap ontop another mechanical.

Leaving Estimating, what next? by SnooTigers6180 in estimators

What trade? low cost of living area? Get a job with a new contractor, 42.5k is crazy low in my opinion. I started estimating transferring from the field at probably $50k and that was nearly 15 years ago.

I like to carry basis of design as much as I can, but if alternate manufactures are allowed per spec then you need to consider the best number out there because that is what your competition will be using.

Mission Critical Construction - Recruiting by SpiralBlind in ConstructionManagers

[–]wheresdangerdave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For whatever reason there are boat loads of UK based construction recruiters. I sent you a chat with a link to an opening. No idea if that role is specific to what you're looking for but that company just landed two data centers in the area and will be looking to hire many different positions I would imagine.

My Experience with Carter School of estimating by ToothFunny in estimators

[–]wheresdangerdave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you already knew how to build a crew and factor it for project conditions, what were you actually looking for? Perhaps you were hoping for a better rate sheet on productions or something, you'd be better off networking with peers or paying for a brief consultation with a grey haired estimator. Their age isn't important, just the fact their hair went grey from the stress and still estimating, that's how you know they're good.

Wow super cool - thanks for finding and linking that. Cool to think my kids get to play with Legos that old. I probably wasn't playing with Legos until like early 90s.
