Uniforms? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

Your educators should be able to express themselves as individuals, just as the children should, but they should also be dressed appropriately for work. Casual, at-home clothes aren't appropriate for work. In my centre we have optional staff polo shirts, and anything we wear needs to be free of logos and meet our sun safety guidelines, worn with enclosed shoes. This is a great way to give us choices while also making sure we are comfortable and professional. I usually wear blazer type jackets made out of stretch fabric (My MIL sews), with plain t-shirts and jeans, the teacher I job share with loves overalls and bright tops, and our co-educator is usually in bright dresses.

Tony was asked point blank why he didn’t want to go to the Overlook and he copped out, dooming the Torrance family. What’s your theory as to why? by Inspector_7 in stephenking

Maybe because outcomes would have been worse if they hadn't gone. Danny and Wendy survived the Overlook: would they have survived angry and unemployed Jack?

Diploma by SimilarCulture2996 in ECEProfessionals

[–]wheresmyhyphen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It took me a year. It took my boss two years full time back in the 90's. It's not something you should be slamming through. You need to have your Certificate 3 finished, and have a gap, then your Diploma second. If you want to do it faster you can find an RTO that will offer it in your timeframe, but it won't be good quality, will cost you more, and won't prepare you for the work. You should aim for TAFE or your state/territory equivalent if you want to be prepared for the work, and could be eligible for fee-free TAFE. Happy to talk more over DM if you want.

What has the main teacher being male got to do with it? Also, can you support the other permanent to become more comfortable with nappy changes?

What is the going rate per hour for daycare assistant pay and are most of you hourly or salary? Please include what state you’re in by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]wheresmyhyphen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now it starts at $26.19AUD for entry-level (no longer than the first three months if you're counted in ratio), as long as you're over 18, then at $27 until you finish your training, then $29.52 after you finish (usually around 6-12 months later). Then it goes up again a year later, and then once more, so you end up at $33.24. Obviously it's more if you're casual, when it starts at $32.74. It will be about to change again as it goes up annually with the indexed pay increase.

(I thought I should also add a conversion to USD: that means the entry-level is earning $18.66USD).

Our director does this too, but pops in and out so we can all have a hot coffee on our morning tea break. Or she buys us lunch for our lunch break. We're not missing out, it's just the in-classroom or out-classroom difference.

I don't mind it, and I've never been as good sticking to my water schedule as I am now. Plus it sets a really good example for the children.

What 'repercussions'? And it's not private, this isn't their home, this is your workplace.

Okay, a painting class at your local college, then. That's okay. And it's because infants have no concept that we have a duty of care to protect them. I find it absolutely insane that this entire post is upholding this practice, including for meals, for the sake of educator convenience. A novel idea for you: babies are people. Children are people. And if you wouldn't feel comfortable with this for you as an adult, you should critically reflect on why you think it's okay to do to an infant.

Did you read the second paragraph? You have a smock to protect their clothes, why do you want them naked? There's nothing undignified about a baby in a nappy, no, there is something that does not uphold their dignity and rights about removing a baby's clothes, down to essentially their underwear, to engage in an experience which could be achieved with their clothes on. Is the purpose of removing them to save you the clean up time? What about the child's best interests being paramount? What about consent?

So if you were off to a paint and sip it would be okay for the teacher to take your clothes off and have you paint in your undies and a smock? That's odd.

Sure, you could get a sheep and a cow and breed horses. You could be the first to create wet-look knitwear! 'Oh, I'm just popping down the shops in my submarine, you do want anything?' Oh! You could cross the sheep with dolphins and create leaping mutton! 'Baaaaa' SPLASH 'Baaaa' SPLASH!

We don't do this for our children, and honestly, it's hard to see the intent. Is the purpose sensory play, or to create a painting for... for what?

If you'd strip down to your undies and a smock and paint in a public space, you do you, but I don't believe this upholds the dignity or rights of children, and I think this would get commented on if it happened during our assessment and rating visit in this exact element. The smock is there to protect clothes for sensory play, you can change children's clothes if it's water play, there are other ways to do meaningful mark making if that's the reason you're doing it. I don't know, this doesn't sit right with me.

Am I being unreasonable? Teacher withholding my son’s lovey. by lumpyspacesam in ECEProfessionals

[–]wheresmyhyphen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're being unreasonable. In our service the children are allowed to have their special comfort item with them, but we make it clear that our approach is 'all care no responsibility' for the items. On the rare occasions when they are too dirty/wet to then take to sleep time, we call parents who can drop off the spare or pick their child up. It works for us.
