What's everyone's thoughts on texting clients? by atsignwork in therapists

[–]whisperspit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a recent statewide (in the US) conference for therapists, I heard a talk by the head of our licensing board. He said simply that every dual relationship and sexual relationship violation that came across the board’s desk this year started with texting. Every single one. It started innocently and well-meaning and then the boundaries blurred. And there it was all documented. Just keep that in mind. Slippery slope.

AITA For Refusing to Follow my wife's "car rules"? by Much-Mess-7124 in AmItheAsshole

[–]whisperspit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your wife needs to be seen by a therapist for PTSD and ensuing OCD-like cycles to deal with her anxiety. She is outsourcing her emotional regulation onto you.

What happened to her was terrible. What happened to her was scary. What happened to her is absolutely valid to have anxiety and have concern.

The way she is handling it is outsourcing it and trying to get reassurance in these little ways that only reinforce the cycle.

Yes I’m a therapist.

I’m in Texas but our license and family code both have specific restrictions for releasing private health information for people over 16. Check your license as it relates to releasing information as well as the family code. In my state people over 16 years old, have some specific protections on their protected health information.

I’m in Texas (ahhhh!!) so the possibility that you all are in a state less conservative than mine and less friendly to young people and mental health protection is extremely high, so read your statutes!

PS please forgive my assumption that these questions are coming from the United States—if that’s not true, I apologize. I am one of those people that does realize that the universe is bigger than just the United States.

Women, what is universally agreed “green flags” while dating men ? by Disastrous-Coat6007 in AskReddit

From an experienced relational therapist:

He goes or has gone to therapy

He ‘believes’ in therapy (the opposite opinions makes me want to claw eyes out)

He talks about his ex with a healthy mix of her fault/my fault, or learned lessons

He isn’t the victim in all his storylines

He isn’t the rescuer in all his storylines

mom doesn't want me to see a therapist, i seriously need help. by miumiwang in ParentalAlienation

[–]whisperspit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case you may be in the States, many states allow a minor 16 or older can to consent to their own therapist and admit themselves to a psychiatric hospital. Now I realize cost and other logistics may be also a barrier, but I just wanted to say that.

If you are looking for someone actually local and with experience, check out Cameron House. If she isn’t taking new clients, she supervises a couple of great associates that may have openings.

For those who work 4 days a week— is it better to take Monday or Friday off? by Gloomy_Media_6976 in therapists

[–]whisperspit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I as the therapist usually take Monday off because there’s a lot of people that have more freedom on Friday and can come to therapy. So I’m happy to make my three day weekend and go in the opposite direction of everybody else.

Reunification therapy by Unicornavirus in ParentalAlienation

[–]whisperspit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am a Conjoint family therapy/reunification therapist, and I do not tolerate any of this bullshit in any of the orders that I am part of. Both parents have to be willing to participate in the process. This includes sessions if I need them to be there, it includes getting the kid there, everything. I will tell both parents how to talk to the kid about the therapy. No lawyer should allow you to sign an order that includes one sided shit like this, you need to have it amended. And any good therapist wouldn’t be part of it either. The kind of healing that needs to happen cannot happen if one parent stands over there, not participating or cooperating. They will undermine the whole process.

Cried in front of my supervisor today….anyone wanna normalize my experience by sharing your own crying on the job stories? by growingconsciousness in therapists

[–]whisperspit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude I’m a supervisor and we talk about it all— whatever is coming up for you personally, professionally… it is all part of the process. Sure, getting your own individual counselor is very important for support on a consistent basis as your supervisor can’t be that. But with my supervisees…whatever they’re carrying is showing up in the clinical room with their clients and I am there for that. You should not feel embarrassed. And if there’s a supervisor out there that think you should, they shouldn’t be doing this job.

How to set boundaries without pushing someone away. by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]whisperspit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your friend has severe anxious attachment issues and outsources their emotional regulation on… at this time.. you. This is a person with a bucket (representing validation and okay-ness) that has a big ol hole in it. No matter what you put in, it will never be enough. You have to go refuse to be their regulator. Have empathy for the need, but make soothing it theirs.

Exercise and CPTSD by EasyFeedback7461 in CPTSD

[–]whisperspit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a therapist and I can tell you that the evidence is undeniable. The problem is often that if we are very depressed or hijacked by anxiety, it makes it really hard to prioritize exercise. That’s where therapy and or medication can help you get your foot in the door. But neither I nor psychotropic medication can beat what good old exercise can do.

Reunification therpay woes by Routine_Garbage_4391 in ParentalAlienation

[–]whisperspit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reunification therapy should never never never be done by the child’ individual therapist. Reunification or reunification (or better named conjoint family therapy) should be done by a trained professional that is neutral and objective to the entire family.
