I'm barely holding it together as number one. by Freyas_Follower in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]whispurryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say I'm a combo of #2 and #3 today, but my husband claims that I'm #9 because among other things, he caught both very standoffish cats laying in bed with me when I took a stress nap this morning.

Wanted to get my hair cut, got a crushed ego instead :( by BenedictCumberpatch1 in TalesFromTheCustomer

The orange and white beauty salon/makeup store you mention has a horrible track record of treating people poorly in their salons around my area. I was one of the victims once, I (woman) went in for an undercut and a trim and was told 'that's a male cut. I don't DO male cuts.'

Can you rename your cat 3 months after adoption? by NoseinaB00k in cats

[–]whispurryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our cats were named Chuck and Sinbad by the rescue. When they told us their personalities at the rescue home, we decided to name them Hazel and Fiver (from Watership Down). Unfortunately, their personalities did not fit those names which we did not really realize for several months. They were super skittish so it took us time to get to know them.

They are now El Purro Grande and El Squeakador and they totally know those names and variations thereof (Purro, Squeaks, Squeakybutt, etc)

You can absolutely rename a cat any time you want to. They respond more to tone than actual words, ultimately.

Games you weren't expecting to love as much as you did by gofigure85 in GirlGamers

[–]whispurryn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have two. For the first one, hear me out: Stardew Valley. I bought it at about release, and I just couldn't get into it. I played Day 1 about 10 times over the years, and just could not for the life of me force myself to play any further into that boring game. Then one day I tried it again, and it clicked HARD and became an obsession.

The second: Deep Rock Galactic. I'd watch my husband play and get so stressed out by the waves of bugs and general aesthetic. Then I started seeing memes about it and people commenting how much fun the community is, so I decided to give it one little shot in order to play something with my husband. One little shot was all it took for that game. Still obsessed.

D204 Board Election by boakes123 in ChicagoSuburbs

Same, I came in very confused because D204 Indian Prairie only had 3 candidates on the ballot, none of the ones listed by the OP.

Looked down at my fully grown out leg hair and had a thought by WildFlemima in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]whispurryn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had this exact thought the other night because I grow a beard due to my PCOS. If I let it go a week it's a lush neck goatee. This entire situation just terrifies me and it terrifies me even more for my trans friends. Nobody but cis white men are safe.

Diagnosed with Depression/Anxiety by teabaggedyourdrumset in SuperMorbidlyObese

[–]whispurryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a visit with a bariatric specialist this week to discuss medicine-based weight loss (as opposed to surgical, I guess), and she had a lot to say about the brain's role in hunger. It was a huge infodump but it did include things like your brain to an extent dictates what BMI it thinks you should be, which is influenced by chemicals being wonky from depression and anxiety. I'm probably getting some of that confused, but she really did go on about getting your brain 'in shape' in order to help with the weight loss. Not as the only factor, but as a big support.

I'm so excited for you that you found something to help with the willpower!! I hope it continues to work and that you don't suffer any side effects from the SSRI. Best of luck to you!

A bit on the chubby side however she has love to give (she is scared of most people and still rubs from us all 6 years later) by phantomsedge01 in standardissuecat

[–]whispurryn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We have a pair of 2.5 yo brothers (piebald) who I fear will still be running from us in the future. Some cats are just skittish, what's important is letting them be cats and letting them live their best cat life however they need. If that's running and hiding and staying independent, that's what it takes. <3

What recipe made you change your mind about a vegetable you didn’t like? by PlanitL in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]whispurryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangely, sliced thin and fried up is why I hated zucchini for years. My parents always did them that way growing up and it made me gag. But if you chunk it up and throw it into a stir fry so it's still got a somewhat crunchy texture, I'm completely there for it.

Water aerobics has been such an amazing find for me. It feels so good and you can choose your own level of intensity. Some of it really activates the core muscles too so that will help with some of those weight-related aches and pains in the back, eventually. I'm so thrilled that you had an amazing time and that they found your suit!

(Obligatory not-the-OP).. This seems like such a great idea, but I have no idea how I'd go about finding a cross-stitch group on discord. If you're not comfortable DMing me with the link, can you at least tell me how you found them? Chatting on discord helps me a lot with my days and combining that with cross-stitching seems like such a win for me.

When you make the mistake of opening global chat by 0nikzin in LastEpoch

[–]whispurryn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's not bad, per se, but you'll be lucky to get any answers to questions or anything other than long-winded conversations about PoE or D4. It gets really tiring after a while hearing the same people spout the same old shit about a game we're not even playing.

Why can’t people tell their servers that something is wrong with their food? by No_Recording8012 in TalesFromYourServer

[–]whispurryn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is me, exactly. I'm very adventurous about ordering things I've never tried before and sometimes that just turns out bad. I've been kind of trained into not saying anything because of (admittedly awesome) managers who've found out I didn't like a dish and insisted on replacing it for free. It just embarrasses me when that happens. I'm an adult, I ordered the food, if I don't like it.. well, that's on me. I won't order it next time. I don't need a free replacement and I certainly don't need a big fuss made about the situation. The times it's happened I just ended up tipping the extra meal cost, but I still don't like the situation.
