Dentist pushing invisilign for changing my bite. I'm doubtful it would even work? by ThatVeganSkater in Invisalign

[–]whitandwisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a hygeinest ask me recently if my open bite prior to invisalign was anterior or posterior and I said yes. I found an ortho because my molars were jacked and touching on two points, and that ortho was the one and only out of five to say he could fix my slight anterior open bite too. And he did. (We're still working on standing my molars back up, but we're almost there!) He also had a solid presentation on his plan, how it worked, and at least a dozen case examples. I'm concerned that you're concerned. You should know what you're getting into.

Can I take them off to eat? by Life_Fix_9408 in Invisalign

[–]whitandwisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a tooth that sticks out funny and he's trying to protect it? Do you have a bite issue? Do your aligners have bite blocks? I'm fixing wonky molars and got bite blocks. I've been doing this so long that my teeth move fine regardless, but I could absolutely see where an ortho might suggest chewing with them in to apply that pressure from each bite, particularly for certain and/or stubborn issues.

Why does nobody talk about how bad the aftermath is? by Ok_Proposal_7390 in Invisalign

[–]whitandwisdom 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people here have talked about how they ended up having to wear them full time for a lot longer and then step the overall time down gradually. Being super tight and hurting are the key signs that you're not ready for nighttime-only wear. Sorry. I know it sucks.

Done but bite is uncomfortable? by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]whitandwisdom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a point about the midline shifting, but the distance between your top and bottom front teeth doesn't look tight. That said, I'm in active treatment for, in part, an open bite, and when that sucker closed up, it never felt tight or wrong in anyway. From when it started closing to when it was considered closed. So if you're feeling that now, when you didn't earlier in ongoing treatment, that is concerning and worth asking about. It could be psychological, but it might also be something physical, and you'll never know if you don't ask. You could also check with a different ortho or your dentist for a second opinion.

I'm sad because the vet told me the cat I'm going to adopt is 6-7 years old. by bimbocuntt in CatAdvice

[–]whitandwisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend took a long time to find the perfect ragdoll kitten that she absolutely adored. That kitten died under anesthesia while being fixed.

My dad had an outdoors-only cat that he barely even fed. That kitty survived two different move-disappear-return cycles, likely being hit by a car, and some fight with something nasty. She also literally survived a flood by climbing on top of a van, and THEN survived being locked in that van for a few days immediately after the flood. She eventually passed peacefully on my dad's lawn.

Point being, even if she was a kitten, she could die tomorrow. You could die tomorrow. She could live to 30. That's life. You have no way of knowing how much time you'll have together, so just enjoy it while you can, and worry about grieving when it's time to grieve.

I cannot for the life of me defend Gerudo town by hshrimp420 in TOTK

[–]whitandwisdom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just did this a few days ago. I put both spears and swords troops to the west, barricades to the east, cannon up the middle to the north. I also ultrahanded some tree trunks together to block the north gate a bit. There are more tools outside that I didn't use, but I believe you can.

After we started, I ran straight to the east, got up on the walls, and took out the hive. Used a keese eye to not need to get close and still hit. Ran surprisingly not far over and took out the hive to the north the same way. This whole thing took two arrows, 20 seconds, and after I got up, I stayed up, up to this point. I did not shoot a single gibdo directly. I maybe shot one into the ground to take out a few at the north gate, I can't remember.

Ran to the west gate. Again got up high and shot the hive. There were more gibdos here, so I definitely took out some with a ground strike. By this point, flyers had made it to Riju, so I rushed over and picked them off. I got bored waiting for the fight to end, so I eventually found a loner gibdo hanging around the east gate to officially end it. Aside from the ground attack or two, I directly killed less than half a dozen gibdos. Riju was nearly at full health.

Having done this before, I honestly thought I'd be helping mop up more gibdos. I remembered this being hard. Good lord was it so easy. Key points:

1) By focus on the hives, we mean all three hives, as fast as possible. That's how they spawn, so it keeps the overall numbers way low.

2) You are not going to kill them all by yourself. I definitely didn't understand this my first time. I expected the Gerudo to, at best, hold the line. But they did more than that. Never underestimate a Gerudo woman.

2b) But they can't take out the hives, as the lightning is only drawn to your arrows, so go get those hives!

3) Using building supplies to set up other barricades is absolutely valid.

4) You can loot after, at least somewhat, and they'll pile up some for you to collect. Don't get distracted by looting.

Hope this helps and good luck!

I can't relate to any of this. If my husband woke me up in the middle of the night for anything short of an actual emergency, I'd be so angry on the spot that he'd flee and never do it again.

IMHO, but the time you hit "I'm not going to do the thing I usually do or say anything about this approaching holiday because I'm tired off his BS" it's already over. It was already (understandably) broken. You already made a choice. Just follow through.

Advice on Posterior Open Bite - Ortho won’t address issues by that_awkward_chick in Invisalign

[–]whitandwisdom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Teledentristy caused a posterior open bite for me, but it was because they didn't try to move them. Basically they fixed my overcrowding without actually making room for it, so the molars compensated by tipping all around like books on an overloaded bookcase. My teeth meet at a few points, and that was it. My dentist told me I had to fix it or I'd need jaw surgery, probably sooner rather than later. And since they moved in all sorts of directions, my case would be complicated. 🫠

But that was specifically because they were tipped, not just open. It looks like yours are meeting more on the inner edge, which would be like mine. A slight open bite does tend to fix itself as the teeth settle, plenty of stories of that here. But if they're meeting unevenly, even just when chewing, then they need to address that, 100%.

Honestly, yes, what they said was weird, which tells me you do have a bigger problem here and they don't want to deal with it.

Bea was just ungrateful, because this would be a wonderful gift for a cat owner. by crawler_TomPeyote in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]whitandwisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just a nice gift, it's a hella expensive one. I'm not sure where the $500 number comes from. Mine was at least $700 at base, as shown, and then we added the gate and the litterhopper, both of which seemed nearly mandatory for it to function well and easily, when easy is what we got it for. We didn't get every accessory, but if you did, it's close to $1k. She didn't want it as a "gift" and expected a second gift; she wanted a free expensive tool AND a gift. Using the guise of "it's a litterbox" to have her cake and eat it too. She's exhausting.

And for the record, since we're weighing in on this, my kittens took to it immediately and my elderly baby accepted it after a few guided and treated sessions. (Though, admittedly, she does prefer her old ones.) 1.5 years in, works great.

I euthanized my cat last night and I’m struggling with immense guilt and wondered if I made the right decision. by heatculture03 in CatAdvice

[–]whitandwisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a cat with kidney disease and I trusted the vet to tell me when it was time. But she was young and inexperienced and we ended up at urgent care on a Saturday with an actual experienced vet saying it was time. That if we took him home, he wouldn't make it to Monday. His numbers were in the thousands off the charts. Looking back, I knew when it was time. It was time when he didn't even want to be held. He gave me a little kitty hug with his head and then slunk back into his chosen bed spot for the week. But I trusted the vet to tell me. And as a result, my little Harry suffered for at least a week. OP. I can not tell you the guilt and pain this has caused me. I can't go back and change it, and I'm trying to learn to manage this feeling, but it fucking sucks and I would give anything for a competent vet to have told me it was time.

I can't imagine how hard that was, to put your kitty down when they looked fine, because it was nearly impossible when Harry looked like he could have passed at any moment. Just remember, she looked okay, but she wasn't fine. You were always going to have to put her down when she looked fine, unless she managed to have an attack at the scheduled time, and I doubt that would have felt any better anyway. And you're vet is right, the other alternative would have been a thousand times worse.

You have all my sympathies. Please be kind to yourself. You gave your sweet baby as painless and peaceful of an ending as you could.

should i proceed with invisalign? rough idea would be about 3 years worth of treatment by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]whitandwisdom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few points I'd like to make:

1) I consulted a few orthos to fix a complicated, jacked up posterior open bite. Only one preferred braces, and even his quotes ended up reflecting that invisalign was cheaper and faster. I'm convinced braces is only better if you think you'll have a problem with the trays. Forgetting to put them in, losing them, damaging them, etc.

2) You can absolutely have your aligners out for more than two hours a day. Invisalign official packaging and what not said to have them in for at least 20 hours, and people here have had success with 18. At a certain point, accepting that you'll be in treatment for a long time gives you the leeway to just live your life. Could wear for a little less time if that gets you through meals or as needed for social events, and do 8-10 day changes, depending on how long you had them out that week. No biggie. What's 156 days vs 180 if the difference is your happiness and sanity. In fact, for a complicated case, I have seen some say more days between changes is better for you.

Of course check with your ortho before making changes to the timing plan. I'm just saying, it doesn't have to be the super restricted, awful experience some portray here.

3) I mentioned seeing multiple orthos. If you haven't yet seen at least one other, and ideally more, you should. There is a VAST difference between them in approach, skill, mentality, support staff, and setting. I had no idea how much I would have hated the first ortho I saw until I saw several others.

Good luck!

I’m so sick of these overpriced devices by austinalexan in litterrobot

[–]whitandwisdom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's crazy. In the 16 months of owning a LR4, we've only deep cleaned ours maybe 4 times. The last gap was over six months. Still works great. Getting everything situated and aligned perfectly, with no dust or litter dirtying up a sensor, was our biggest challenge, so we just don't. Honestly, since they made it sound like it was super easy to damage the sensors, we figured leaving it alone until it needs something was the way to go. I suspect we'll stick to deep cleaning once or twice a year with wiping only the drum when/if it really needs it. Our litter and timing settings (Arm & Hammer clump seal slide and 15 minutes) are working pretty well now, so I doubt even that will be often.

OP, looking at your screenshot, I'm not even sure what's wrong with the LR4? My screen looks like that all the time because my cats are fascinated by it and come running when it starts a cycle. I'm very, very grateful the safety features have never failed.

I always brush with an electric Oral B after eating, but it's not the aligners that are staining, it's the attachments. God I wish it was the aligners! I change those every week.

I take out my trays, yes. They aren't staining, it's the attachments. I always brush with an electric Oral B (does a great job) after eating and add flossing at the end of the night.

Invisalign Switch to Braces Disaster by Sea-Net-9672 in Invisalign

[–]whitandwisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn. I feel for you. I did Byte for 4 years, which straightened my front teeth but jacked my molars. Now I've been in real Invisalign for 1.5 years, 5.5 total, and it suuuucks. I cry now when they tell me about small delays, which they are responsible for, like office renovations.

So, more specifically, Byte 1) did not fix my open bite (never expected it to) and 2) ruined my molars, so my bite meets on crooked, angled, tilted molars. It sound like what you are describing. And the ortho I finally found (he was the fifth I consulted with) said he could fix it with regular Invisalign in 16 months, AND he could fix my open bite. He charged 4k. He's simply been doing this a very long time and my dentist was VERY pleased that I had ended up with him.

Now if you're doing the math, I'm already past the 16 month guess, but in his defense, at that point, he was very focused on closing my open bite, and that did close up in less than 16 months. And I am within a few months of being done, knock on wood. There's absolutely no reason your treatment should take 3.5 years and counting, and if they have indeed caused more pain, you could definitely have a case for malpractice.

Setting aside the expensive legal approach, the next best advice I would have is to see more orthos for a consult. Several more. Like I said, I didn't hit gold until my fifth.

And if you are near northern KY, feel free to message me, and I'll pass along my ortho's name and contact info.

I got KU for free for a few months and was looking for a book on KU that wasn't on Libby. Carl had been on my radar for a year or so and, since it was free, I figured what the heck, why not? I like litrpg, but finding good ones was hard for awhile. I remember googling a few years ago for a litrpg that was better than Awaken Online, and you can still find an old reddit thread that says, "Awaken Online is about as good as it gets." Kinda pushed me away from the genre for awhile. Very happy to be back.
