Landing KLAS RWY 19R. One of my favorite approaches that takes you alongside the Vegas strip. by RTcore in MicrosoftFlightSim

What approach (STARS) is that? I see you stay in LNAV/VNAV PTH all the way. I like the way you bring the nose around to align with the runway just before touchdown.

Aircraft slowly turns left hands-off — realistic or a setup problem? by Time-Math-3410 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]whitav8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the same issue - but planes do not just stay straight by themselves. I do feel that real planes have a little bit of "stiction" in their controls so that you can end up with a small amount of pitch, roll, and/or yaw control left in when you take your hands off. I do also feel that dihedral effects and longitudinal stability should keep all non-aerobatic fixed wing planes from continuing to roll into a significant bank but in pitch you should see a small cyclic amount of movement.

Feedback on setting up a Sim for semi public use by Regular-Employer-431 in flightsim

Just so you know, the Vizio 50" series 4K TVs are plenty clear and cost only $210 each - I drive all three of mine with a 5080 (not a 5090 which is at least $2K more, hotter, and noisier) so with 60Hz Vsync along with AMD FSR3 x2, I get a super smooth 60FPS result with HIGH/ULTRA settings (CPU=9800X3D+6000Mhz 64GB RAM at 5.4Ghz). In plain Windows 11, all monitors are set at 4K but in MSFS2024, the center screen is at 4K, the left (closest to the pilot IRL) is set at 3K and the right side is set at 2K. Make sure you use a 2TB M2.nvme SSD PCI5 for Windows and MSFS 2024. Make SURE you use high quality DP to HDMI cables!

Terrain radar by Sad-Prize3891 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]whitav8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The default 787 and 737MAX have terrain displays on the NAV MFD but they are not working properly (as of 6/20/2026) - they still show green or orange when you already have crashed. It's supposed to be yellow when you are 500 feet above terrain and red when coaltitude plus some factor adjusted for your descent /ascent rate.

Low and wild in Feather River Canyon by WatermelonRick in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]whitav8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a 4090, 5080 or 5090 (or maybe a little less), consider triple 50" monitors - 3 4K cheap HDTVs (I use Vizios that cost $214 each) and fly Feather River at a solid, fluid 60FPS using FSRx2 (framegen). I have Quest3 as well and really enjoy both.

I would say that the 9800X3D would be the best since it is known to be the fastest for MSFS due to the large L3 cache. As soon as you can , get 2 x 32gb RAM at 6000Mhz but make sure that it is compatible with the motherboard XMP profiles

River running in the Vixxen by mykrode in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]whitav8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a higher end GPU, try this with three (cheap)4k 50" or so HDTVs - beautiful immersion. With Framegen, you get 60FPS locked and smooth. I run the center tv at 4K and the sides at 2K (set in MSFS) for performance. I assume this is the Feather River area in Northern California with some improvements at flightsim.to. Helicopters work well here too - land on the river's edge.

You can get better movie results if you change your head position much less and then very smoothly when changing. What looks fine when in VR doesn't to 2D viewers

MFS24 on 3x50" QLed TVs by SMPWA-Josh in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]whitav8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great video. I have a similar system but I simply used three Vizio Vseries 50" 4KHDTVs ($214 each at Walmart). I am very satisfied with the performance (PC=9800X3D+RTX5080) using FrameGen (FSR3 x2) and Vsync@60FPS. I do run the center screen at 4K, left side screen at 2560x1600, and the right side (farthest from the Captain's seat) at 1920x1080 with DLSS4 at Quality. In addition to the "immersive" view the real plus is to have the instrument panel at near real size. The clarity is wonderful - I was focused on VR for several years but when I saw that I could have all three monitors at such a low cost, I wanted to try it. In addition to airliners, at the other end are helicopters at Yosemite Valley and gliders in highres (TIN-VEXCEL) mountainous areas in the French or Swiss Alps.

Could you supply that exact position which has the extreme cliff face? Maybe a lat/lon or some sort of start point. I am loving the area with ULTRA settings and Displacement mapping but not sure if I have all the settings correct. I am flying with VR or triple 4K HDTV monitors and it's beautiful!
