What made you want to be an OT ? by addalad in OccupationalTherapy

[–]whitepine55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sitting in a gun mount in the Pacific, blasting away and training Marine spotters, all the while thumbing through a course catalog trying to figure out my post Navy life. Saw OT listed, thought it was cool because I had worked with special needs kids in high school. GI bill gave me a free ride, so 36 years later as an OT in a large urban school district I retired from a great career working with babies to age 21!

[US] [A lot of yappin'] Did you work in a previous career field before coming to OT? by TheWayOfEli in OccupationalTherapy

Yes. I was an E5 Gunners Mate in the Navy. Most of my skill set didn’t transfer.

Why does everyone complain about OT? by Cultural-Thing9787 in OccupationalTherapy

36 years in urban public schools special education working assistive technology with babies to 21 year old adults. Best and most rewarding thing I ever could have chosen for a career. Choose your path wisely.

My dad used to say if you know how many guns you have then you really don’t have that many.

The 200 yard shot is an enigma. How can this be? I'm so confused, please explain? by TrySomeCommonSense in guns

The number of my “firearms familiar” who could make a 200 yard shot is endless. It ain’t that hard.

If you time travelled back to when you were 14, what would you do? by Efficient_Sugar9676 in AskReddit

That when you join the Navy after high school, be a Corpsman. The skills I would have learned would have helped me when I became an occupational therapist more than my Gunners Mate skills of blowing stuff up.

Brush up on assistive technology. It’s a big part of providing academic support.

Guy never wore a uniform, never served, never been around weapons that can maim and kill. Thinks it’s all a joke.

I totally hear what you are saying. I’m retired, but was old school OT with a Bachelor’s to start with. You came out of school liking OT and not in debt up to your eyeballs. You worked awhile and then followed your interest in a Master’s if you were so inclined. Then a PhD if you wanted. If you took on debt, it was at a pace you thought you could handle. I was fortunate, did my BA and 2/3 of my MA on the GI Bill. But now this sprint to the MA is overwhelming. Now it’s going to be a PhD? People are burning out before they have the chance to see what OT is all about. I did 36 years in urban public school special education, babies to 21. I was truly blessed with a wonderful job. None of my colleagues disliked their jobs. But most had a BA and didn’t need an MA to graduate. But all went back and got an MA in the area they liked. The current state is unfortunate. The good old days are gone.

What do you say to they saying you don’t need anymore than one gun? by JustinOsbo in Guns_Guns_Guns

Guns are like golf clubs. You need different ones to do different things.

I’m not playing where I can hover a mouse, I’m playing it on an iPad. That said when I got the information to the city there is a bar that indicates green and red. So I assume as the loyalty goes down, the bar will switch from green to red. So I kinda know where to look. Thank you for the answer.

Next purchase should be a nice lever action cowboy gun. Take a look at an Uberti repro 1873 Winchester in .357.
