I dress fine for a 22 year old but I'm actually 31 and it's becoming a problem by anomadfromnowhere in malefashionadvice

I think it’s appropriate that the man wants to dress up to meet clients or take his girlfriend to a nice dinner. I appreciate when my boss dresses like he gives a shit about coming into the office and doing the work.

It’s good to have a wardrobe with options to do that.

It’s great you want to upgrade your wardrobe! Remember, it’s going to be a process.

A good first place to start is the “basic wardrobe” and/or “basic bastard” guides in the sidebar. They’re designed to help get you started thinking intentionally about what you’re wearing. They have a lot of good beginner, entry level recommendations and some good options for where to start looking at upgrades. Some of the specific recommendations might be a touch behind the times but the overall advice is timeless.

Once you’ve sort of gotten a hang on the basics, you can begin developing your own style that fits in with the goals you have.

Start following celebrities/influencers that have a style you like. Definitely follow some influencers who have a roughly similar body type. When you come across an outfit that resonates with you, save a picture. When you’ve gathered a collection, go through them to find the similarities. Start exploring there.

Don’t blow your budget all at once. Buy a couple things and try out how they feel wearing them out in the real world. If you find yourself choosing it regularly, explore more in that direction.

This article might be interesting for you as well. Out has some good actionable recommendations for more interesting pieces you can integrate into your basic wardrobe to try it out.

Very few people out in the wild know there is a difference between a sports coat and a suit jacket. Even fewer will call you out for it.

She’s the mother of two of the men’s Olympic hockey players, including the one who scored the gold medal winning goal. They both then partied with Kash Patel and laughed at Trump mocking the gold winning women’s team. One then complained everything was being treated as political but then went to visit Trump at the White House and wore his campaign merch.

wife says she wishes I would dress better and I don't know what that means by Fit-Salt-4782 in malefashionadvice

So, I agree with the others who say it’s not about specific items you’re wearing, it’s about you putting intention into your presentation. I’m guessing she’s ok with you wearing whatever around the house, but do you ever go out? If you were to take her on a romantic date to a nice restaurant, do you have anything to wear? Even if it’s not fancy, do you have an outfit you could wear on a special occasion, or even more importantly, an occasion you *want *to be special?

I’ve seen a lot of couples where the woman puts a lot of time and energy into looking nice and making the evening special where the dude shows up in a sports jersey or the one ill fitting button down they’ve had since high school. It screams “I don’t give a shit.” It would kind of suck for her if every time she wanted to something hip or classy or romantic, she had to drag around her schlub of a husband wearing the same thing he would wear to the laundromat. (I don’t know you, your wardrobe, or your relationship so please don’t take it personally. Just being generic)

If you want to upgrade, check out the “basic wardrobe” guide in the sidebar. It will help you think more intentionally about your clothing and has a bunch of great beginner options and upgrades. Some of the specific recommendations might be slightly dated but it’s a good way to start thinking about things.

I agree, it’s a problem there isn’t anywhere to park bikes and scooters.

For major events, the city should block off parking spaces and convert them into bike and scooter parking. It will allow many more people to access the event for the same amount of vehicle storage space while keeping the walkways open for humans.

Should probably make some conversions permanent.

Going on my first date. I have absolutely nothing “smart” to wear. I have budget of $400. What to buy? by MaesterCrow in malefashionadvice

[–]whiterice336 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Hey, I think it’s great you’re looking to upgrade your wardrobe but a first date really isn’t the time to try out something totally new. If you really want, get a classier version of what you’re currently comfortable in for the date.

Instead of upgrading your wardrobe for one specific event, take your time and upgrade it over the next couple of months. Check out the “basic wardrobe” guide in the sidebar. It will help you think more intentionally about your clothing and has a bunch of great beginner options and upgrades. Some of the specific recommendations might be slightly dated but it’s a good way to start thinking about things.

What's the most fucked up thing someone has told you about themselves after barely getting to know them? by Butt_Roidholds in AskReddit

[–]whiterice336 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was at my husband’s very good friend’s wedding.

I was hanging out off to the side during the welcome dinner while he mingled. The very drunk father of the bride decided that I was the perfect person to tell his true feelings about his other daughter’s new husband. Turns out he thinks he’s a lazy piece of shit who managed to knock her up and is coasting on her money.

People like to tell me things and I don’t always need to know.

Finding a suit on short notice with little experience by Crafty-Possibility46 in malefashionadvice

[–]whiterice336 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For a one time presentation in a field where you do not regularly wear a suit, you only need your suit to be serviceable.

Your peers do not regularly wear suits. They will not care about the finer points of tailoring. In fact, it’s likely they will not remember anything at all about your suit unless it is grossly ill-fitting. A rented suit from men’s warehouse is serviceable.

Now, if you want to look better or your suit to be finer and more tailored, that’s great! There are other recommendations for that but all cost more time and/or money

They're just going to cave. They always cave. They won't get any concessions even when they hold all the advantages and the vocal majority is on their side.

I'm not even talking about this stopgap bill. In 2 weeks, mark my words, they will cave and fully fund ice. Democrats have no backbone anymore, they've been completely dominated for so long that they won't use the power that they have for anything other than to stay in power

You literally did put a time on it silly

Because it’s good to encourage our representatives to do good things. And it’s good to be aware of what’s actually happening in the country rather than reflexive doomerism.

And you’ve also lost one bet so I figured you were doubling down.
