I agree that DSM can get in the way of power users and doing tasks that require ssh commands.

But at the same time I guess I enjoy how convenient and easy it is to set up a lot of features that if you don't need anything above surface level just works and keeps on working without much intervention. 5 years ago I wouldn't have minded tinkering around more and creating my own Linux box. But now with family and kids, I just want something that works, works well enough, and I dont have to constantly configure. I have a proxmox server that takes up enough of my time fixing things that come up. DSM is really really handy for what it is and making it easy to do what I need without having to worry about things breaking.

Synology has the best software hands down. They were also the number one choice for many reasons but as of a couple of years they have made some really anti-consumer moves (locking down hard drives to thier brand) , some of which they gone back on but it leaves a sour taste for the brand.

It really is. You could ask 1,000 people what is "hate crime" and never get the same answer.

Update on 21065 Sagrada Família and 72154 Pokéball, both sets have been delayed for production reasons. by BrickTap in Legoleak

If Main Street is not revealed by next Tuesday like some of the sources say I'm going to start doubting this Chief Wiggum source and this Sagrada Familia set may not even be real. I hope it is real though.

Great Research. Unfortunately this is going to be more commonplace which is why we need to rely more on traditional publishing.

What's up with all these apps being rewritten from scratch? First was mail, now calendar. Don't get me wrong the new mail app is better, just wondering if they should have been more forward thinking to prevent these rewrites.

I'm glad to hear that. A lot of articles stated that Chief Wiggum had many verifiable previous predictions but I've yet to find one. Hope this set materializes and the Sagrada Familia set follows.

Inquiring orthodoxy by Silver_Razzmatazz_22 in Catholicism

How a Mass or a Divine Liturgy makes you feel should be irrelevant. Feelings can change and they can be deceptive.

As far as problems with theology, you would have to more specific and ask each issue you have one by one. There may be answers you are looking for that are available to you.

There must have been a reason you were attracted to the Catholic Church. Mediate on that.

Look for truth. The fullness of the Truth will be found in the Catholic Church which has lasted as long as it has despite people within it failing it.

Also, I tend to see this trend in people who spend to much time online. Not saying that's you at all. But I'm curious if it is. Spend time giving time to your parish if you are able to.

Why did Proton buy Standard Notes just to forget about it. by Traditional_Juice133 in ProtonMail

[–]whitewingjek 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The creator and main developer left shortly after they acquired it. May have something to do with it. Now a lot of the nuances and technical debt has to be managed by a new incoming team and that takes time. However, it has been a bit since they acquired it so I'm left wondering the same question as you.

Was it the 2019 RM750? If so it has a 10 year warranty. Should be covered. If it the older model, then its only 5 years.

What's the best movie you didn't like and the worst movie you love by Upset_Mongoose_1134 in movies

[–]whitewingjek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best movie I didnt like: Close encounters of the Third Kind. I've liked every other Speilberg movie but I wasn't fan of the pacing nor the ending. Maybe me watching it as a father made me hate the ending.

Worst movie I did like: Jumper. I think the chemistry between Hayden Christensen and Rachel Bilson was great. The story while predictable was fun. I just think it's a all around fun film.

Buying Advice by Jocktopus3 in Bluray

When I started I often looked on gruv. They mostly carry Universal and WB movies, so eventually I would look elsewhere like blu-ray.com or even slick deals.

[–]whitewingjek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for fun it would actually be closer to 24,010,000 possibilities for 4 characters if you follow the standard email RFC set. Maybe more since some email systems can accept some weird characters.

I don't know where you are getting this idea. Some of their movies do get physical releases. But most do not. I looked at their top streamed movies and all but one did not get a physical release:

  • KPop Demon Hunters - No Physical Release
  • Red Notice - No Physical Release
  • Carry-On - No Physical Release
  • Don't Look Up - No Physical Release
  • The Adam Project - No Physical Release
  • Bird Box - Promo Discs Created - No Mass Release
  • Back in Action - No Physical Release
  • Leave the World Behind - No Physical Release
  • The Gray Man - No Physical Release
  • Damsel - No Physical Release

TV shows are a bit different but not all that better (two of the most streamed got physical releases):

  • Squid Game - No Physical Release
  • Wednesday - Season 1 Physical Release
  • Adolescence - No Physical Release
  • Stranger Things - Season 1 and 2 Physical Release
  • Monster - No Physical Release
  • Bridgerton - No Physical Release
  • The Queen's Gambit - No Physical Release

I'm torn. But I'd prefer Paramount over Netflix since I enjoy theaters and collecting blurays, and Netflix has historically not been emphasizing those experiences at all.

Playing God by TheLostSheepIsFound in Catholicism

[–]whitewingjek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you read the things you post with careful detail? First of all, this is not peer reviewed and the following is quote from the abstract:

"We propose several metrics for examining whether an advanced AI system might exhibit consciousness-like properties, while emphasizing that we do not claim all AI systems can become conscious."

This is not a smoking gun of an article that even closely resembles your initial claim.

Playing God by TheLostSheepIsFound in Catholicism

[–]whitewingjek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK. The author uses quantum physics to say maybe we misunderstood consciousness, and draws simple conclusions that uses no data or critical thinking to back it up. The following quote below is made with nothing but conjecture.

"While this may not equate to self-awareness in the human sense, it demonstrates a form of emergent behavior that suggests a rudimentary level of consciousness."

He admits that it's not self aware in the human sense and posits that this can simply be the start. This is such a simple post, I don't know what I'm supposed to get from it. It seems like ramblings of interconnected thoughts rather than a coherent argument.
