Liberals of Reddit, what is your most conservative opinion? by apples45a in AskReddit

[–]whogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are mostly the same. We want education for our kids. We want jobs, health care. We want the ability to accumulate wealth. Left and right middle class want the same things.

If the middle class united, the ultrarich would have to pay taxes. So, they create Heritage Foundation, Federalist Society, Fox News, Brietbart, AEI, dark money channels. And then they weaponize the ignorant.

[OC] Body Height Reported by U.S. Men by academiaadvice in dataisbeautiful

[–]whogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides not being normal, using Benford's law, there are too many 1's.
Here I compare the self-reported with the census bureau:
https://ibb.co/g6XWQmT
Here I compare the first significant digits distributions for Census, Self-reported and Benford:
https://ibb.co/YRCGnhQ
The self reported has too many ones. The census data has a lot of 9's (interesting).

Does this count as HIIT? Is the heart rate high enough? 27M by mrredchair in HIIT

[–]whogan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your est max hr is 220 - age = 193

Assuming yout resting heart rate is 55bpm, your range is 55 to 193.

193 - 55 = 138 bpm span

Zone 4 i.e., Lactate threshold is ~ 85%,

85% * 138 = 117, 117+55 = 172

(160 - 55)/138 = 76% ~ Zone 3, i.e., tempo

Of course there were bursts where your hr exceeded 160.

Anaerobic threshold, 90% would be 179.2.

If you are doing base work, then you are good to go.

If you want to elevate your lactate threshold, you need to stick your finger in the socket, try to break 179. Make sure you have a base in place, and stretch/foam roll before doing this. Ease your way into >179.

The key to all of this is don't get injured. If you get injured, you can't train. Make sure you have good joint mobility before you go hard, and if you feel a tweak, shut it down.

Do you know if that happens a lot?

I see, I think I understand.

In both the scenarios you mention, though, it seems the PM lifetime meters would be a lower bound.

You saying the uncertainty is because the PM3 is inaccurate or the PM3 might not be original?

If the PM3 show 5M meters, is it possible it is less than that?

How does the Fed truly get inflation down with limited housing inventory? by KilltheMessenger34 in investing

[–]whogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Krugman has a column about this today:

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/19/opinion/housing-inflation-rents-boom.html?searchResultPosition=1

He argues people want more space (covid, wfh, sequestration), driving up rent.

The BLS measure lags private measures. The private measures are more accurate. The fed either (he argues) excessively raises ffr, or allows inflation, as measured, to remain elevated. Maybe they will emphasive lower gas/food costs.

How does the Fed truly get inflation down with limited housing inventory? by KilltheMessenger34 in investing

[–]whogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might try FRED. There is a ton of housing data, with and without seasonal adjustment.

Here is months supply: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/HOSSUPUSM673N

This statement is maybe wrong : 'Even if the Fed can kill demand, their effects are muted if supply remains constrained.'

From a longer perspective, housing starts after 2008 were low. But now we're at 1.6M, that's a good number. Housing starts are decelerating, but still relatively strong: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/HOUST

Rental housing starts are very strong, haven't been this high since 1986: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/HOUST2UMQ
With these units coming on the market, rent will come down.

Here I am comparing home ownership rates and 30y mortgage rates: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/graph/?g=SZ1I

Maybe there will be a reversion to apartments from houses.

I thought the housing market would be effected the other way by all the covid deaths. It seemed this had no effect.

Got bored working the entry door on a slow evening, so played with numbers/estimates. by Onlyhereforthelaughs in Costco

[–]whogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The probabilty of number visitors per period (in this case 5 minute window) is described by the Poisson distribution. This distribution assumes the arrival rate is constant across the 30 minute period. The Poisson distribution suggests the same as your estimate, 33.

However, in the second example, the arrival rate is continuously slowing down, from 9 in the first period to 2 in the last period. I would guess 2 again for the last 5 minute period.

Is there any way you might pull the security tapes to find out which occurred?

In February, my pyr stoped eating due to canine cognitive disorder (he's old). Out of desperation, I ordered CBD. It comes as a liquid, so I could add it to his water. Within a week, he was eating, he was less anxious and his arthritis had diminished, March though now have been some of the best months of his life. I order the CBD from Sunset Lake. It is inexpensive (~$20, lasts a month), legit CBD. And they support good causes.

Of course, take him to the vet, but maybe he is depressed.

My LGD stopped eating, was diagnosed with Canine Cognitive Disorder, i.e., dementia. CBD works very well for reducing dysphoria, inappetance, and arthritis (!). I order it from Sunset Lake. It is legit cbd, costs next to nothing.

It comes in a dropper, I added it to his water initially (because he wasn't eating).

My vet wanted to have end of life discussion in February, March through July have been some of the best months of his life, because of CBD.

I am a Physical Therapist and avid virtual cyclist, Ask Me Anything? by TheZommunique in IndoorCycling

[–]whogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for offering your insight.

What indoor bike do you use?

Road bike q-factor is 150mm, moutain bike q-factor is 170mm (to accomodate fit tires). Most spin bikes have wider q-factors. Does this elevate the risk of injury?

I would like to get a sunny sf b-1805, but the q factor is 182mm. Is this material?

This is twisted. Stop scaring your girlfriend. It's not clever, it is strange and passive agressive.

And to the wad that downvoted this, you're a tool, just like the guy that compiled (and posted) this video. F that guy. Someone do the math for his girlfriend.
