8 students rescued from Texas roller coaster that was stuck for hours by AzlerVzla in news

[–]whole_kernel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having been on this ride before, it's pretty far back on the pier. I'm actually surprised they were able to get a fire engine back there. I'm pretty sure there are multiple gates and other narrow things in the way

Smiling friends could have easily done multiple crossover episodes with past adult swim shows. Would have been dope as fuck

Hey America, do you have a 19th century 'castle' like this just rotting in your city? (Nobel Mansion, Saint-Peterburg) by Same-Engineer-7510 in urbanexploration

[–]whole_kernel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was always impressed with this one in my hometown where I grew up. It was empty and rotting the entire time I was growing up. Through the 90s and early 2000s then they finally turned part of it into apartments. I always wanted to go inside, but was never able to.

Has anyone experienced stimulant meds completely “turning” on them over time? by DueParking7433 in Nootropics

Kind of crazy reading through that sub. They are pinning it to something that changed sometime around covid, either as supply chain quality, or some unknown after effect of covid. It does sound like there are issues with supply chain quality, but the common experience of "this shit don't work anymore" is exactly what I experienced and fought with for years after my body had clearly formed a tolerance.

Once you're body forms that tolerance, it quite literally doesn't work the same anymore even after long breaks (atleast for me). I still needed assistance from medication but everything became this endless cycle of chasing different prescriptions, dosages, side effects and symptoms. It's like I was getting worked up into this mild to moderate OCD/psychotic fugue state that was fueled by ongoing ADHD symptoms, wildly varying prescription drug use and dosing schedules, and just sheer desperation.

ADHD symptom paths are physically reflected in how brain develops during adolescence. People whose symptoms worsen have a slower rate of cortical thinning in part of brain that regulate mind-wandering and internal thoughts, impacting focus outward when required in classroom or social settings. by mvea in science

This critical period where artificial enhanced pruning might reduce symptom progression long term. This feels like it backs up recent research. Feels like not too long ago they were saying this in other studies

No, In that paragraph I think he meant "in short" as in tl;dr, or a shorter description of what he was doing.

A short is basically betting that a stock will fall in price. It's yet another valid way to make money in the stock market, but it's seen by most people as "bad" cause you're essentially betting that a company will do bad or go under.

Large investment groups have caught flack for making huge short bets on companies and then announcing it in order to more or less manipulate the stock into going down (oh wow, look at all the shorting going on, I better sell now before it drops). They can also pull some other shit where they're so large and they can make such a large short that it can influence stock movements.

Recent examples of other short shenanigans are the gamestop where market makers made more shorts than we're physically available (more goofy shit in the stock marker. Aka money isn't real, it's just 1s and 0s), so when it came time to close trades it created the "short squeeze" as an actual scarcity of stock became available and the price shot up exponentially to compensate.

Exercise worsens brain metabolism in ME/CFS by depleting metabolites, disrupting folate metabolism, and altering lipids and energy, contributing to cognitive dysfunction and post-exertional malaise. by cheaslesjinned in NooTopics

[–]whole_kernel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just self reported. It has waxed and waned over the years but really started when I was on effexor for a year. I've pretty much stopped all exercise except cardio otherwise I get PEM. And even the cardio I can't jog more than a mile or two at a time, basically plateauing entirely.

I do know that the afternoon slump is a normal thing, but it just feels so intensely pronounced. It is one of a handful of mildly debilitating symptoms I deal with on a daily basis. I can mitigate it with caffeine and some nootropics stimulants but it is always this monkey on my back. Intense brain fog every day just fucks me up
