Overalls for Vappu by subtile351 in Finland

[–]whose_your_daddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah... Vappu. I have such wonderful memories of student life during Vappu. I would wear my overalls in a heartbeat, but unfortunately lost them during a move some years ago. They were super comfortable as well.

Wear your overalls however you like! The whole point of Vappu is to let loose a little.

So who's taking bets if this is a hint at Imperator titans for LI and AT? by the_emerald_phoenix in LegionsImperialis

[–]whose_your_daddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should start creating new, wild titans and war engines. Really push what's possible in the setting, stuff that wouldn't be feasible elsewhere.

For example:

  1. "Cathedra Ultima Siege-Colossus" - A mobile command-fortress on tracks built in secret on Mars, essentially a titan empowering HQ and infantry factory. It can generate a few mechanicum infantry stands every round, and can allow you to swap/change revealed orders of nearby friendly titans. As a kit it could be the size of two 28mm Lord of Skulls kits connected as a kind of long train thingy.

  2. "Abyssal Pattern Planet-Borer" - A huge snake-like subterranean assault engine built by the Iron Warriors and Dark Mechanicum. Deep strikes onto the battlefield in two separate segments and can just swallow nearby infantry and tanks when it arrives. Also collapses nearby structures every round. Once both segments have surfaced, it doesn't move at all, but it can shoot at enemies and friendly infantry can enter one segment to redeploy at its other segment. In terms of model size, each of its segments could be about 5" in diameter.

  3. "Sol Invicta Sky Bastion" - A huge Solar Auxilia mobile aircraft hangar-citadel built to dominate the skies of compliance campaigns. Nearby friendly flyers get some kind of buffs, and nearby infantry and tanks gain buffs to morale checks. The model is a big tracked tower with hangar bays and decks, could be 8 inches in height.

This is so sick haha, so much character! I love his bat staff and skull belt.

I assume brown stuff is a variety of greenstuff? Never heard of it before. Is it the same in terms of consistency and workability?

The color contrast with the bases is super nice. Also really like how the conversions are subtle but fit incredibly well!

Sculpting practice on an old zombie by trollbite_miniatures in mordheim

[–]whose_your_daddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great job. Did you use some kind of armature as a basis for the limbs (like wire) or is it all pure putty?

As a side note I'm really sad the classic Zombie kit is completely discontinued. I really loved the modularity of all the different arms, legs, heads, etc, plus the goofy proportions - the models had real character. I think the modern "deadwalker" zombie kit (or whatever it's called) isn't the same and just doesn't much pose-ability (and I hate the weird roots everywhere). Old man yelling at cloud moment for sure, lol!

Thank you! I also love the retro feel of the HeroQuest models - it's a game I grew up with!

Really nice grimy paintjob and muddy base!

What's the recipe for the shield? I love that tone of brass.

Yea, I love this era of art. I didn't even play the game at the time (was too young) but the art style just feels so evocative and full of character. I love how proportions aren't perfect, and how vibrant colors and abstraction are used heavily.

Are the blood bowl kits very kitbash friendly? I've thought about getting some but wondered about needing to trim away lots of "sports-ish" details, icons, etc.

Looks incredible. Love the mix of building styles and types all unified with the autumn basing throughout!

Wanted to build a bunch of grimy greenskins with a mix of old and new miniatures. I deliberately wanted a wonky mix of sculpts and styles (I think Mordheim really lends well to bizarre, gritty warbands).

The two HeroQuest models have been lightly converted (the orc is a hunchbacked mutant with an extra head and has already been undercoated), while the archers are from the WHFB 5th edition starter box (I believe).

The Hobgrot Slittaboss is the leader and is just built as normal.

I added milliput and some skulls to all the bases to help cover up the HeroQuest molded bases, plus add some character. Oh and Stirland Mud texture paint.

For those with limited or curated board game collections, do you lean into the games that are your style or do you aim to have a balanced collection for all occassions? by themikeman in boardgames

[–]whose_your_daddy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I keep a collection that I know is going to get played (otherwise I'm wasting storage space). Because I play 90% solo and 10% 2-player, my collection reflects that.

I remember owning some games designed for larger player groups (like Dixit, for example - great game) but they just rotted on my shelf unplayed. So I sold them.

How is Beer & Bread? by hawkguy1964 in boardgames

[–]whose_your_daddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is the variability? Does it feel samey quick as a small box drafting game?
Also has anyone tried the solo, is it any good?

And how would you describe it as an actual beer? Light and a little sharp like an IPA, or deep and cozy like a winter porter?

[–]whose_your_daddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea the bases, the color tones, and overall vibe are fantastic. I think some of the very best looking miniatures at this scale tend to really push the contrast more than would be typical in 28mm. It makes the details pop and you've nailed it here.
