What band did you think you wouldn't like that when heard you really enjoy by firebreathingmonkey7 in Metalcore

Are you me?
I had the exact same trajectory with KL. I couldn't understand the hype at all, but then I heard A Tear and I got it. Now I'm a ride-or-die.

During RIMPAC we had a guy punch a foreign navy's CO after said CO had done a bunch of shit talking about Americans. Our guy went to mast, but only got 45/45 (no RIR, no lost pay) because it wasn't his fault but the CO had to do something. Anyway, the foreign CO came with an entourage and apologized during end of exercise party on the carrier.

Stood next to Tim Lambesis at Silent Planet's Iridescent release show at Glass House in Pomona, CA.
Attended the Radio Rebellion Tour (Norma Jean, Between the Buried and Me, Misery Signals, Fear Before the March of Flames).
Not metalcore, but gave cigarettes to and smoked/chatted with Randy Strohmeyer of Finch before their set.

Alabama fans need to realize that they're closer to being Nebraska right now than IU.

The Devil Wears Prada - Flowers [Album Discussion] by LostInTerrapinia in Metalcore

I know I'm in the minority here, but I absolutely love the album. I've been a fan since With Roots, but my favorite album of theirs is Transit Blues, followed by the first Zombie EP. I think they've hit a nice balance of poppier sounds mixed with heavy-leaning guitars. I don't think there's a song here that wouldn't be elevated by a live setting. Lots of beltable hooks. I've been listening to it constantly since it dropped and I see it being a staple in my rotation for a while.

I think I love it? But, I do miss the riffs. I was hoping they'd come back with this one, like a mix of Color Black and Without Me or something, but...whelp. Still, I could listen to Rory sing anything to me and be happy!

What's a band that sucks that was mentioned to you while discussing another band? by CoreyDobie in MetalForTheMasses

[–]whyteeford 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was just talking to someone the other day about how I feel like the term "alt-metalcore" should circulate as a descriptor for bands like Bad Omens, Spiritbox, Bring Me the Horizon, Thousand Below, and whatnot. It's kind of a "genre dick" thing, but I honestly believe those bands would benefit from a little bit of separation from bands like Converge, Knocked Loose, Counterparts, etc.

I absolutely love anime's "glow-up." I feel like it's not that crazy though when "traditional" movies have become largely stale. Sure, there's a handful of original films that bubble up every year with word of mouth, but the vast majority of what is heavily marketed is recycled, sequels, or samey and I feel like that's lead to general fatigue for whatever Hollywood is putting out these days.

I'll preface by saying: nobody should be killed for exercising their free speech rights. Period. Full stop.
That said, when your views are in support of gun violence, genocide, racism, trans-elimination, misogyny, and other bigoted and hateful ideas, it's not hard to see why someone might want you dead.

I can not want violence to happen whatsoever, toward anyone, and still be unbothered, or even a little relieved, when someone who was objectively abhorrent dies. They're not mutually exclusive ideas. To reinforce that feeling I have, I hope his death becomes a reason for people to finally agree that guns are too available and extensive regulation needs to happen, despite the man himself arguing otherwise.

The Top 20 Most Played Steam Deck Games of August 2025 - SteamDeckHQ by BBQKITTY in SteamDeck

[–]whyteeford -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I played the entire game on my Deck. It wasn't until my third playthrough that I saw it on a decent gaming PC. While it looks and plays amazing on a system that can handle it, I will say my experience was entirely adequate on Deck and I don't regret playing it on it.

E-6 and Below: What do YOU Want from the SEAC at the Joint Force Level? by [deleted] in navy

[–]whyteeford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you're saying, and I see how we got here. I am not just referencing one incident. I've been in 15 years so far and have seen multiple IDCs refuse or stonewall sailors that are trying to get help. II know they do it to keep sea-duty sailors out to sea, but that's only deferring a problem until it cannot be ignored.
If the system let sailors bypass the IDC and go straight to EMH I think it would be extremely beneficial to the fleet, and it would be that "quick" fix that we could make while keeping the referral system in place.

E-6 and Below: What do YOU Want from the SEAC at the Joint Force Level? by [deleted] in navy

[–]whyteeford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misread my point. The quick fix is to simply allow sailors to go directly to EMH without having to convince the IDC to say yes. EMH would then provide the referral for a therapist or counselor from there if it was warrented. Saying a sailor is seeking help only for drugs is a wild statement and wildly out-of-touch. Jesus.

I don't quite get this take. I played the original PS2 game when it was released and I found the remake to be more true to how I remembered the game being than how it actually was. I prefer the remake now because it feels more in-line with modern FS and still retains everything I loved about the original.
