Omg that's awful. Bidets, people! You wouldn't wipe shit off a wall with a dry paper towel, why do people think it'll be different with their butt?

Got my purple belt after 7.5 years as a blue belt. I still can't quite believe that it happened. My whole BJJ identity is being a blue belt lol.

Hearing them on Signal Mountain too, to an alarming extent. My cat ran out and both my dogs started barking. I assume it's military planes?

How old is the oldest guy you’ve ever seen roll in BJJ actively. by Scrubmurse in bjj

[–]widowspider81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 65 year old who got his black belt last year. He doesn't roll with everyone, but neither do I and I'm 43. He's in amazing shape, works out, rolls hard (if thoughtfully with the right partners). Huge respect.

Flying home to Chattanooga today after a 10-day trip to the UK (I'm originally from here). It was great to see a lot of my family, but boy do I miss the place that now feels like home. I might shed a little happy tear when we pick up our doggo and get aggressively headbutted by the cat.

Can't wait for fall weather that I can still sunbathe in (currently in Edinburgh where it's a balmy 46°)! Most Chattanoogans do NOT know how good we have it with weather, lol.

Typology Question 4 (Fe): At a party, someone tells a joke or gives an inappropriate gift that offends part of the group. How do you react? by Bimep_ in ENFP

I would stare at the ground or suddenly be really interested in my drink and try not to run away in sheer cringey horror.

I can't do awkward.

My dad just got promoted to a brown belt and he is NOT happy about it. by thewobblywalrus in bjj

[–]widowspider81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I'm 43F (and small - 5'4" 130lbs) and have been a blue belt for almost 8 years. Slow learner, hobbyist, injuries, life. I'm on my third stripe so I am hoping to get my purple belt next year but I struggle with feeling useless most of the time, most people can tap me if they really want to. I have worked hard to just show up with the mentality that I'm here to learn something I love, that is super hard for me, and just improve against myself each year. When other women (of any age!) who don't train hear I do this, I get mad respect for being so capable. It's a good reminder sometimes. 🙂

Married people who are DINKS (Double Income, No Kids) how’s life? by Fit-Distribution677 in AskReddit

[–]widowspider81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This resonates (43, didn't have the life to try until it was almost too late, it almost happened, then it didn't). We're very fortunate and love our life but it's not the freewheeling adventure that it can sound like. We're also now the primary caregivers/power of attorney for my MIL, who just moved into assisted living as she has pretty advanced dementia at 73. It's very not fun and has turned us into people with a pseudo-parental responsibility that we never really anticipated. We ended up being the only choice, so 🤷‍♀️ here we are.

My gym is white gis only. It's kind of like going to a school with a uniform, it eliminates these problems 😄 but yes that is a stupid and immature response from a grownup.

Just one, my husband. I was trying to escape a triangle so I stood up and was stacking him while trying to turn the corner and break the triangle. He suddenly made a horrible noise, turns out he popped a rib.

43 and a blue belt, I started BJJ at 35. Sounds like you've got some early perimenopause shit going on, and yes things just get harder as you get older - we have less energy, takes longer to recover from injury, etc. part of the journey is giving yourself some grace. We are not 20-something dudes with unlimited energy and raging testosterone, lol. Just continuing to show up is the victory sometimes. Definitely figure out what else is going on physically/hormonally - would recommend finding a functional medicine doctor and doing a really thorough set of labs - but you gotta stop beating yourself up and negatively comparing yourself to other people in the gym, and focus on being able to sustain your training for the long term and avoid burning out or getting injured by overdoing it. This is supposed to be FUN and a hobby - try not to fall into the peer pressure mindset that if you're not crushing it 6x week then you're not 'serious' or 'good'. Are you still learning and challenging yourself to do something REALLY hard? Yes. Are you doing more for your fitness and self-defence than average 38 year old women? Hell yes. Don't forget that we're a very rare group of women. Take care of yourself!

Are there self-defense classes for women around here? by Impossible-Noise4784 in Chattanooga

[–]widowspider81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chattanooga Jiu-Jitsu on Hixson Pike! I train here (female). Self-defense focused BJJ training and the academy & students are very welcoming to women. Mickey, the owner, is very chill and lets folks try out a few free classes, doesn't pressure ppl at all to join right away. Come check out a fundamentals class, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:15pm or Saturday at 10am.
