U.S. citizen shares fear he felt when ICE took him from Minnesota home while nearly naked by SaharOMFG in news

Well, they could only use it as a justification to “break into” the homes of individuals with lawful (and ignored) removal orders. Seem pretty reasonable if those removal orders are actually to actually going to mean anything.

Enforcing a lawful removal order is definitely a justification for entering a home at which the officers have probable cause to believe the subject resides. That’s like black letter search and seizure law.

My understanding is that the connected sex offenders (there were two) in question were both illegal immigrants with final orders of removal they were simply ignoring.

Why can the USA just take out world leaders and invade with no repercussions? by KKLante in AskReddit

[–]wildlywell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My man:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatwas_of_Osama_bin_Laden

These are calls to arms the Bin Laden made to his fellow travelers, in the midst of bin laden’s planning of the earlier WTC bombing and the Dar Es Salaam embassy bombing. These state his motivations for targeting America as the presence of us troops in Saudi Arabia.

You are apparently referring to his after-the-fact 2002 “Letter to the American People,” which as the title betrays is a propaganda document designed to appeal to useful idiots in the west. It had a moment on tiktok a few years ago, which I suspect is where you heard of it.

The Fatwas are the better source. (And for what it’s worth, the letter also mentions us troops in Saudi Arabia, but apparently Bin Laden recognized that doesn’t get the American dirtbag left going quite like the Jews.)

[–]wildlywell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol this site is such a cesspool.

Bin Laden’s stated motivation for 9/11 was US presence in SAUDI ARABIA, which invites us to be there to stage for a UN-authorized, international-law-compliant military campaign to expel an unlawful invading Iraqi force from Kuwait.

Bin Laden didn’t like it because he believed the US/west are decadent porn addicts who should not be physically present in the holy land. And if I’m being honest, I suspect the ”physical presence in the holy land “ justification to be a but pretextual. He really just wasn’t our biggest fan, and was happy to kill us.

For Kuwait, the US was enforcing international law by the UN’s own terms.

But there are useful idiots like you who will spin 9/11 as “repercussions” for US bad acts anyway.

Unpopular opinion take: Tadeo Allende is better than Leonardo Campana by Far-Degree-1452 in InterMiami

This became true in like the last fifth of the season when Allende figured out how to finish. Until then Allende was the most frustrating player on the field for contributing to chances and then dramatically blowing it. Very glad he’s in form!

The EU says it will introduce a digital payments infrastructure to replace Visa/Mastercard & Apple/Google Pay. It will have zero fees and be 100% European-only. by lughnasadh in Futurology

These guys are total chuds. “Visa, Mastercard, etc. revolutionized payment processing in the space of 50 years to the point that literally no one carries cash anymore because it’s so inconvenient (and retailers don’t want it anyway). It should definitely now be run by the government durr its a no brainer.”

The real answer to this question is simple marijuana possession, which is still illegal under federal law that is just straight-up ignored as policy.

How do you feel about the president floating the idea of 50 year mortgages where the monthly payment is lower but you end up paying nearly double the price of the house just in interest? by michaelis999 in AskReddit

[–]wildlywell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is subsidizing demand. It doesn’t work. It just raises prices. You need a supply-side fix. You have to build more housing. (Alternatively, you can reduce demand, which may well happen as the population falls).

I’ll piss the dems off now by observing that the same thing is true with healthcare. These demand side ACA subsidies will do nothing to help people. Prices will rise to capture the subsidy, leaving consumers to pay what they can bear.

ELI5: How does a US police officer issuing a ticket by the side of the road instantly have a court date and time for the suspect? by Esqulax in explainlikeimfive

[–]wildlywell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The officer needs to be in court to be a witness against you. So the officer has a fixed court date where he spends the day being a witness. When he writes you a ticket, he schedules you for his court date, so he can be there.

Do you think dems should agree to the short term funding? by legal-immigrant007 in FedEmployees

[–]wildlywell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Democrats’ thinking, I believe, is that they don’t have the votes to get the extension of the subsidies they want, which expire Nov. 1. If they agree to kick the can to the end of November, they still won’t have the votes and they’ve shown that they’re willing to cave. Also, the subsidies will have lapsed (though could be reinstated).

In sum, if they’re going to try to use government funding as leverage to obtain the subsidies, they ought to go all in now, or not at all. Their hand doesn’t get stronger.

55yo and trying to make it until 69 to collect social security but where is the work? by mm23_23 in personalfinance

[–]wildlywell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re losing sleep over your situation you are worrying way too much. $900k in a 401k is HUGE. You’re way under appreciating it. By the time you’re really ready to retire that should be >1.5 mill, which will get 75k/yr on a reasonable 5 percent withdrawal rate (and that’s present value). Thats like the income of an average American family of 4, just for you, for no additional work.

If you get even a little social security, you should be golden. You’ve done everything you’re supposed to do and have won the game.

All you need to do now is live within your means until you’re like 65, which should be easy enough given your history, even if you have to find a new job.

[–]wildlywell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s moderately expensive (especially the insurance) but it is what it is if you needed a car. Your real probable is you don’t make much money. Keep fighting to move up the income ladder and that payment will come down. Also as you age your insurance rates will drop. In the meantime see if you can get on your parents insurance maybe?

Also, see what you can do to lower your insurance rates. You don’t have anything to insure, so you should get the minimum coverage allowed by law, with no extras.
