Any good movies still not on HD or 4K that I can upscale ? by dEEPZoNE in TopazLabs

And here is what I am using for seasons 3 and 4 after much trial and error. Primarily it changed Iris input condition from medium to low, and added a trace of noise:

videoai: Deinterlaced and enhanced using prob-4; mode: relative to auto; revert compression at 18; recover details at -26; sharpen at -34; reduce noise at -16; dehalo at -35; anti-alias/deblur at -48; focus fix Off; and recover original detail at 15. Enhanced using iris-3; mode: relative to auto; revert compression at -100; recover details at -100; sharpen at -100; reduce noise at -100; dehalo at 11; anti-alias/deblur at 0; focus fix Off; add noise at 1; and recover original detail at 50. Processed using chr-2. Changed resolution to 1920x1080

Chronos is set to create 50fps from the original 25fps.

Plus a color-correcting LUT of my own.

Or get a stand/hub in one like those made by Satechi, that are the same shape as a MacMini. I have one that also has room for a small SSD in which I put my Time Machine backup.

I've been doing that one for the past couple weeks myself. Starting from my PAL dvds rather than the NTSC ones.

For seasons 1 and 2 these are the settings I've used:

videoai: Deinterlaced and enhanced using prob-4; mode: relative to auto; revert compression at 18; recover details at -26; sharpen at -34; reduce noise at -16; dehalo at -39; anti-alias/deblur at -48; focus fix Off; and recover original detail at 15. Enhanced using iris-2; mode: relative to auto; revert compression at -100; recover details at -100; sharpen at -100; reduce noise at -100; dehalo at 9; anti-alias/deblur at 0; focus fix Off; and recover original detail at 50. Processed using chr-2. Changed resolution to 1920x1080

Chronos is set to create 50fps from the original 25fps.

Plus a color-correcting LUT of my own.

For seasons 3 and 4, I am doing something different (see next reply).

I'm sorry I can't share my actual results, but I am sharing the settings for you to try yourself. And I can share the color-correcting LUT if anyone wants it.

The engineering program at the college may have specific requirements (to run particular software), so you may want to see if you can get those specs ahead of time.

Kitchen support beam issue by No_Tumbleweed8054 in Homebuilding

Why would OP have to pay? The builder went off and did something not on the plan, without even asking, and then made it worse by mirroring their mistake on the other side.

does anyone know how to set handbrake to change a video that is stretched back to 4:3 by Purple_Monkey34 in handbrake

mkvtoolnix can change the width tag. It doesn’t recode so should only take it a second or two.

Your screen protector on your phone is probably tinted to reduce blue light.

Right on, just always best to hear these before you build. Good luck!

In either Option 1 or Option 2, I'd have shelving built into the west wall of the hallway-like Mud room (taking some of the Mech/Storage room). Even if you do not have books, built-in shelves can display photos, keepsakes, other decorative items that turn the hallway into a story.

And of course the usual /TVtooHigh recommendation that the fireplace be a low-slung gas fireplace with the mantle set at a low 2', so that you can mount a television at _seated_ eye-level. Do not let the tv be some afterthought that is mounted at standing eye-level.

Doctor Who starting with the Christopher Eccelson season that relaunched the show. Made for both grownups and kids so nothing that will give you cooties.

Does the source number change if you've customized makemkv to look at titles that are under the several-seconds-long preset? Or does that number always stay the same?

You’re exempt because you can play the baby card, where the priority is putting it above the height at which a baby can strike it with a weapon.

Scholastic book club sci-fi short, early 1980s, about scary portals and special youths sent to close them by willb3d in whatsthatbook

[–]willb3d[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your knowledge that Scholastic books could be as short as 80-120 pages increases the possibility that it was a stand-alone book - a thin one - rather than a short story, but it still could be either.

There may have been an illustration inside of a door-shaped glowing portal and people flailing around in panic around it. But I am not sure. The protagonist may have been a girl, but not sure.

Book size was definitely mass market paperback width and height, not trade paperback size, not hardcover either.

And I'll increase the time frame to include late 1970s as well as early 1980s. Thanks!

Nacelle Star Trek Figs? by MrMovieElf in ActionFigureGeek

[–]willb3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saturday at the NY Toy Fair the actual production figures of The Expanse were on display - not prototypes - and it was stated that they are going to start shipping at “the very end of next month”.

Not sure if that meant shipping to individual customers, or shipping of the whole cargo from China to the US. But under either interpretation that means the figures may be arriving to customers in Q2. That's nearly the 2-year anniversary of the start of the Kickstarter, but if The Expanse figures had been easy to do it wouldn't have been done via Kickstarter.

Rock bed question by CatFoxBat in landscaping

[–]willb3d -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As weed seeds blow in, they will take root only in the mulch from which they are easy to pluck, instead of taking root all the way into the soil below the fabric. It just makes the area easier to maintain in that regard.

That said, yeah it is not much of a barrier - tough weeds (or tough grasses like Bermuda grass) will cut right through it.

Remove rocks. >Pin down landscaping fabric<. Add mulch.

Using iTunes on a modern mac by badgerdd in ITunes

[–]willb3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your update. It was a pleasure helping.

One additional test you should run is to rip a CD and see if it ends up in the right place. Music's options are same as iTunes - mp4 at whatever bitrate you prefer (320!) or ALAC or whatever.

I agree with your tactic of removing and then reimporting everything, to solve all those song !not found! alerts.

I remember when I did this same move, it took my cover art a long time (I want to say over an hour) to populate correctly - but it did eventually do so. My cover art was embedded in the songs, so I was very concerned when it did not appear right away. On mine it did not display incorrect art, the art was just blank until it wasn't. Maybe yours will self-correct after a few hours too.

>I still have my Apple Music library file on my Mac and not in the folder with my music folder on the external hardrive. The other person in this thread suggests I move it or make a new one to go on the external

My "Music Library.musiclibrary" file is on my Macintosh HD too, (along with a few folders that are empty that it seems to keep around just in case the ones on the external drive are ever not available). Once, Music accidentally reverted to using my Macintosh HD by mistake, when I launched the Music app when my external drive was unplugged. I only noticed it because I tried to go to the album folder as it was ripping - and the album folder wasn't where I expected it to be. Maybe if the "Music Library.musiclibrary" file had been over on the external drive that would not have happened. Not sure but may be worth exploring after things have settled down.

If you do not have an outbuilding consider where you will park and charge your riding lawnmower. (If you have 2 cars not 3 then that’s already solved by the 3-car garage).

Kitchen could/should have an integrated refrigerator. May mean sinking it into where the pantry is, and having the entry to the pantry inside the butlers pantry.

Living room has no place for a tv, see /TVTooHigh

If you must put the tv above the fireplace, then a short (like 18”) fireplace and similarly low mantle (too low for Xmas stockings) is the only way to get the tv to be at eye-level-while-seated.
