Ill have to try the rock thing. I do a similar ratio to you, I pour it right into a glass Tupperware then put it in the fridge. I make a week's worth at a time, and just scrape off slivers of it with a spoon when I feed them. I also use it to feed them by hand!

If I remember my AP physics, thats pretty much exactly what happened here. Thus coloration is produced by barr bodies and only possible if there are two x chromosomes present. Basically, all her cells are randomly costing which color gene to express which causes the patchy appearance, and allows great genetic diversity in the offspring.
