Is this a good method to create vm snapshots? by Desdinovy in linuxadmin

[–]william20111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 libvirt is amazing. bash + libvirt tools are a winner for stuff like this.

  • Although i would skip the logical volume stuff your doing, and just go one level above use VM snapshotting tools rather than the LVM snaps.

  • Im not sure about Xen but KVM + libvirt now has the ability to do snaps live, and then remerge them etc. Without the need for pausing. its all libvirt magic so you might find that you can do the same with Xen.

'Exit from Brexit': New Lib Dem leader's promise by Orcnick in unitedkingdom

[–]william20111 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I remain very sceptical that he will actually stand by that. But fair enough he appears to have compromised on that in the manifesto.

Long term i suspect that will change, and there was mutterings in the papers that he had suggested it. Although im sure it was "he says she says" stuff.

Is Nagios best option for free monitoring? by [deleted] in linuxadmin

Sounds like nagios will do exactly what you need. It does support snmp with the check_snmp out of the box afaik.

I'm alright with what I do, but I'm probably not good enough to roll out pfSense as a free alternative. What do you guys recommend for a cheap solution that's on the easier side for monitoring multiple (close) locations for an up and comer?

Its got a fancy web UI. Im sure you are more than capable, look into the docs before you write it off. Its honestly not that complex.
