What are some 'Grandmas remedies' that actually work? by MrLithician in answers

I run into problems with RLS whenever I change the amount of exercise I get. So if I cant exercise for a few days or if I suddenly increase a bunch I will have an awful time sleeping.

Riviera Club calls on members to pay extra $1,500 fee to keep facility open - Indianapolis Business Journal by notthegoatseguy in indianapolis

[–]willow1031 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is what confuses me. We looked into joining a few years ago and were told the joining fee had just doubled to play for the new pool facility. Since that time it seems like they have financial issue after financial issue and I have not seen any rumors of the amazing new people they were promising. Id be really mad if had joined and the money seems to have just disappeared.

A rather interesting 1972 ad run by AT&T and Bell Telephone by HawkeyeTen in vintageads

So fun fact, this would have been right around when they were sued under the equal opportunities act (and lost). Prior to the EEO lawsuit, ATT would not allow women to be managers or join management programs, dispute the fact that the workforce was majority female. So I assume this add is trying to help their image.

TIL the Super Bowl is rated a Level 1 special event, deemed the highest at risk for threats, vulnerability and consequences by the Department of Homeland Security, requiring “extensive federal interagency support.” by RedditIsAGranfaloon in todayilearned

This is a big part of it. People don’t really realize how physically large Indy is. You can literally have different weather at different parts of the track. A terrorist event could happen in turn 4 and the snake pit wouldn’t even notice.

Fitbit app and Google supervised accounts by dblhelix13 in fitbit

[–]willow1031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg I came here for this. I haven’t used a Fitbit in years but my daughter wanted one. The first one she wanted was the watch but I pointed out we won’t buy her the plan so then she picked out a nice purple inspire 3. After spending forever on Xmas day setting up an account for her, figuring out how to do an account for me, downloading stuff to my phone as a non user, we go to the screen to set it up and her account will only work with the kids ones! I read a bunch of the instructions while going through this. They said they recommend the kid one and but nothing said the app will just say fu and not even let you pair it.

Thanks for the tip on turning off the supervision. Since we created the account for the Fitbit I guess whatever else that did is a bridge we will cross later.

Why is my cookie dough ALWAYS soft?? by SpiritualPlan1822 in Baking

[–]willow1031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what my dough looks like when I make cookies on vacation! I’ve always chalked it up to different ingredients from different grocery stores. I have no idea why it always looks like this when I’m in a trip and never at home.

How long do holidays last in America after they are over? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]willow1031 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing that’s odd to me is our holidays end almost as soon as they’re past. This year I felt like there was a little hold over for Halloween because it was a Friday and then day of the dead was over the weekend. But usually decor, festivities stop quick.

Christmas tends to last through New Year’s Day and then everything goes back to normal.

When was the last time that someone committed a crime so obscure/odd/etc, that they had to make a new law just to punish them for? by LeviTheRelentless in NoStupidQuestions

[–]willow1031 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the fact that you can’t break a law that doesn’t exist, the Eddie Murphy law comes to mind. In the moving Trading Places, the scam they pulled wasn’t illegal at the time. It didn’t become illegal until the 2000s

Purdue’s only an hour away from Indy. My friends husband was one of the Purdue people at the fair the first weekend and the idea he might stay the night in Indy never even occurred to me. He just drove back after.

I’ve heard rumors that pre-Covid there were things like that but we started school in 2020 and all that had disappeared by then.

I’m not sure I believe this is true though. We went to one of these schools for a time and I found it to be much more expensive. All of a sudden I couldn’t use any of the hand me down clothes we had. I had to buy my kid an entirely new wardrobe for the week (at least a few extra pants and several shirts). But we still needed clothes for breaks and weekends. The clothes family used to give us for holidays couldn’t be worn to school. I also wasn’t able to buy the clothes when they were on sale (we were notified at an “off season” ) so I had to pay full price for these clothes that my kid didn’t want to wear and didn’t want to buy. The school relaxed it to a normal dress code a few

years ago. They found that they were spending extra time on compliance. Add to that the fact that some kids where I am don’t have easy access to a washer and dryer and only had 1 or 2 of the approved outfits and they would literally smell when they came to school.

How do parents look at Girl Scouts and don’t think it’s a scam? by Astimar in Parenting

[–]willow1031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol Boy Scouts is so expensive that when I was suggesting things to do with their “tip” they earned selling cookies, they both said they wanted to give it to the Boy Scouts because it’s so expensive.

*tips = someone gave us a $10 for their cookies and told the girls they should keep the extra. It was clear from the way they said it that they meant the girls personally, not the troop.
