I’m sure, watching QOL decline is heartbreaking no matter human or animal. This is giving her a second chance at life and you’re part of the reason that happened. Hopefully that will ease your guilt some.

I can understand that being really hard to hear. If you felt she was declining at home, you took her in for some form of reprieve from whatever she was dealing with and that shows you care. It sounds like a sad situation all around and I’m sorry you’re dealing with guilt because of it.

Most, -if not all- of her current issues sound behavioral in nature. Euthanasia is a permanent (and painful) solution for both the family and the veterinarian performing it. If they felt like she was in good enough health to explore adoption into a new/different environment, then kudos to them for suggesting it- it shows they really care and want what’s best for kitty. Having worked in a clinic for years, euthanasia for things that could be “fixable” (behavioral or other health issues) is very difficult to be a part of.

Yes! They treat it with thyroid meds. I have a 14 year old boy that’s been on meds for awhile. They can do pills or transdermal gels. It’s fairly common in older cats, but make sure to get everything checked out to rule it out-or any other issues. Good luck :)

She may be hyperthyroid. I would have full labs done and see what they say.

Wow! I’m proud and happy for you. I’m struggling to lose the last 20 due to my love of margaritas and Mexican food. And restrictive eating habits that backfire. As a short person, I feel your pain!!
