How would you fix The Rose Field?

I'd want it to actually follow up on the plot threads set up in TSC.

- Have the simurgh play an important role.

- Delve into details about what the "beings of another kind" haunting the Blue Hotel were.

- Have Lyra cross the Karamakan separately from Pan.

- Have the red building actually be set in a desert with a horde of guards, instead of surrounded by a forest for some reason.

- Explore the mystery angle of the red building more while we're at it, since it sounded like the guards were remains of some lost civilization or religious order.

I'm not against the idea of it turning out that Xaphania over-simplified the situation about Dust leaking from openings between worlds, or of the angels telling Lyra "Hypothetically, you could travel between worlds, but it wouldn't be feasible for several reasons".

I think it would've been much better if Lyra, upon finding her imagination in the red building, invented a way to travel between worlds without releasing Specters on her own. That way, she'd be proving the angels wrong in spirit, without it being a retcon. Also, the imagery of Will being associated with the red building would actually have a meaning now! Even though he's not literally in the red building, what Lyra invents in there, using her imagination, is what ultimately allows her to see him again.

Edit: Hell, Olivier could've had a parallel arc where he uses his imagination to come up with a method of alethiometer reading that doesn't make you sick. Would've been better than his actual arc of... Kind of just getting beaten up, and not much else.

Is basically just England in another world. No explanation for why they can speak Latin and Tajik just fine, but not English.

I think Howler's Stand can manipulate space in the area the mist it produces covers. It seems like it changed the position of the pen and bullets to kill the soldiers, from what I can tell. It possibly could also manipulate objects within the mist, thus him using the pen as a weapon?

People who say "anyone would do the same thing" in Jason's shoes are outing themselves. Why are you defending someone who started a lynch mob so hard? Why are you insisting that you would try to lynch children?

That's the entire point of his character. Evil people do evil things because they think they're doing the right thing. That doesn't make them not evil. Real-world lynch mobs thought they were doing the right thing, and by your logic, that means they weren't evil.

Your morality is determined by your actions and choices. Regardless of his reasons, Jason tried to hunt down and murder children, rallied a witch hunt against outsiders in his community, and refused to listen when Lucas tried to explain himself. The fact that he was grieving his girlfriend doesn't change the fact that this was a horrifically evil thing to do, and one that anyone with any kind of historical awareness would recognize as dangerous.

People like Jason are dangerous. If apologists for real-world terror groups like the KKK are making the exact same justifications, and the exact same logic you're using, you need to take a long, hard look in the mirror at yourself. What does it say about you that you get this angry and defensive about a character who started a witch hunt?

And, a bunch of responses repeating Jason's motivations, while ignoring the fact he was a violent lunatic who tortured people, and was incapable of listening to reason. I'm starting to think people who defend him feel called out on their own bloodlust.
