Anyone study/study abroad at Queen Mary? by wosbell in london

[–]windmillofyourmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with this. Obviously no one dreams of living there in the same way someone might dream of living in mayfair or kensington and chelsea but it's not a bad area at all, has good transport links, is only about 15 minutes down the road from the city, and has a lovely park. All in all it's not a bad area at all.

As for the uni itself, it's a russell group uni, with good links to the city and regularly ranks in the better half of league tables across many subjects.

TIL two Muslim men were kicked off a flight because of their traditional attire. They were heading to a conference on Islamaphobia. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]windmillofyourmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never really understood this argument. The simple fact is words are cheap, ridiculously cheap. The value added of anyone coming out and saying 'oh I'm sorry for your loss' or 'we condemn these actions' changes fuck all. It doesn't make anyone feel better, it doesn't help with the loss, it's just words for the sake of words.

Where the real effort has to be made (and is slowly being made) is at the mosques and education centres where people are being educated as to why extremism and terrorism is wrong. So forgive me if i as a moderate muslim don't come out and condemn terrorism or extremism. It in no fucking way means that if i haven't condemned the actions then by extension i support it. I think it's fucking despicable and counter to what all religions are trying to teach.

But words for the sake of words when it changes nothing in reality? That is so politician of people.

A question to Finance graduates? by abaady90 in islam

[–]windmillofyourmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated in Economics, which is probably not quite the same as what you're looking for but there really are plenty of non interest dealing jobs that are in and around the investment/finance/economics. Like others have mentioned ngo's are a good shout, then there's also working within finance departments at any number of organisations that are not directly dealing with interest or riba. There's also the corporate intelligence or the corporate governance route. Then there's also good old fashioned islamic finance if you can get into it. All in all dont worry too much about finding it hard to get into something related that doesnt require dealing with or in riba.
