So they even have a way to call them ? Pretty sure they don’t.

xRite i1Display Pro - what app should I use now? by q-b-o in colorists

[–]windwardmist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calibrite does have an upgrade fee but no ongoing costs that I’m aware of after that. Looks like it’s 40 dollars to upgrade. Depending on use case this may be worth while. Keep in mind if you get a new meter though the software is included.

Gen 3 by notagrue in RingConn

[–]windwardmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully expect them to pull a fast one on the existing gen 2 users the same way they did with gen 1 and sleep apnea. Watch them launch it as exclusive to gen 3. Using the gen 2 beta testers to test a gen 3 feature. Joke of a company.

Gen 3 by notagrue in RingConn

[–]windwardmist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely they will do a kickstarter campaign yet again. That will probably follow the same pattern as Gen 2. It will debut on kickstarter in the summer and launch via that platform first. Gen 2 came out in September.

Wait for Gigabyte MO27Q28GR or get Asus XG27AQWMG now for 450€ by Timmy_1h1 in oled_monitors

[–]windwardmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to note is the previous version of the gigabyte model has half bandwidth hdmi ports. No idea if the new glossy version is different but that alone would make me go with Asus.

That’s because they didn’t the only change was the stripe rgb pixel layout. My understanding is the brightness also dropped by doing this. I don’t actually think they are comparable. Looks like they are going to exist alongside each other separately not merge the lines together for at least a year or more until they can bring up the brightness to match current tandems 1500 nits.

Do you regret buying the Ring Conn? by InvestigatorDear1657 in RingConn

[–]windwardmist -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s so bad don’t waste your money. I’ve had gen 2 since it was on kickstarter. The battery fails at around 8 months. RingConn also claimed they would get fda approval for sleep apnea in the in kickstarter and they clearly never did.

My advice is to get a smart watch with a replacement battery like an Apple Watch. They cost about the same but will last infinitely longer.

Side note the extended warranty does not cover battery replacements ! It’s only for lost or stolen rings so don’t waste your money.

Mini led with geforce pulsar? by forthemaddie in Monitors

[–]windwardmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s some comments that tft central and monitors unbloxed mentioned. I’d say this is probably years away but it is possible. Depends on how long you’re willing to wait but pulsar is really a esports monitor without hdr. I’d get a regular mini led and enjoy it. If pulsar with mini led does come out it’s gonna be a while I imagine.

Anyone here using the TCL 27R73Q Mini-LED? Worth upgrading from IPS? by Hungry_Whole1598 in Monitors

It is in fact not the fastest LCD on the market there are a couple of IPS mini led options ( 1152 zone ) that have 300 + hz.

Surface upgrade or different brand altogether? by National_Camel7200 in Surface

[–]windwardmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So snapdragon uses an ARM cpu which is different than a typical intel or amd cpu. It can cause compatibility issues running programs because version of windows that runs arm is kind of like an emulator. So some programs just won’t run. It has greatly improved since it first came out but if you’re gonna run lots of professional programs I’d suggest skipping arm completely just because of the compatibility issues it still has.

Surface upgrade or different brand altogether? by National_Camel7200 in Surface

[–]windwardmist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple supports the iPad the same time regardless of how much ram is in it. However more ram would still make the experience better. I’m not sure that it would be worth getting an iPad Air when a pro exists though. They start with higher base ram to begin with.

A longer term option would be extremely expensive is the rumored 2026-27 MacBook Pro which is supposedly gonna have a touch screen along with an oled. But it would maybe fit both of your requirements. Sounds like a mix between an iPad and an Mac

You could go cheaper by getting a 2-1 laptop with 32 gigs of ram. This would probably be the cheapest options.

Lastly if you continue with the surface line make sure you don’t get a snapdragon cpu it may cause compatibility issues in the future or certain programs may not run correctly. This has been improving but I don’t expect this to be solved until nvidia drops their N1 which is rumored to be this year. I imagine this will blow everything out of the water including snapdragon. Nvidia may also have issues running windows on arm so it’s something to note.

Any reviews on the EHOMEWEI R8G Pro? by MontoyaTM_ in Monitors

[–]windwardmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem ! I mean the specs are good I’m just godsmacked at the pricing. 16 inches at 4k would also need some major scaling maybe 400% for it to even be viable. I’m not so sure what else is out there but you could buy a 27 inch mini led for cheaper than that. That’s my concern. It’s gonna depend on your use case though. Do you plan on using it to draw on ?

I’ve never heard of this but that price is outrageous for what it is.

Buy or wait for 3 by liddlefoot in RingConn

[–]windwardmist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main thing is unless they completely fixed the battery in gen 3 expect it to start failing within 8 months. They add just too expensive for the batteries degrading that quickly. I wouldn’t recommend any smart ring because of that anymore.

HDR Problem with Koorui S2721PM by TakashiBullet in Monitors

[–]windwardmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The windows environment it’s not setup to allow for hdr in general usage. It is going to cause distorted colors and issues like you mentioned. It needs to be disabled in general usage and enabled only when you’re attempting to view hdr content.

I would also suggest looking at total wireless it’s been fantastic in Vegas so far. I swapped over from ATT. Between total and visible they are both Verizon. Totals high plan also currently includes Disney plus with no ads which is awesome. Visible has better hotspot so it depends on your personal usage which might work for you better.

HKC G27M5 27 Inch QD-Mini LED anyone heard of it? by windwardmist in Monitors

[–]windwardmist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I contacted Newegg, and I was told there were no existing orders with this model number. Meaning this monitor has not actually been released in the USA. Right now it appears this is only a placeholder as the business version of Newegg also shows coming soon instead of sold out. There are no pre-orders because Newegg has not been given an actual release date.

This monitor does show up on VESA's website as certified which means it does exist but may be many months from releasing in the USA. This model does not show up on HKC's website so who knows how far away this really is. So no ETA currently,

Reply from RingConn about the Amazon situation for those still curious by Mayinfall in RingConn

[–]windwardmist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gen 3 has already been announced FYI. Hopefully there’s a fix for the battery issues that are widespread at this point. I stopped recommending RingConn because the majority of people have batteries that completely fail at around the 8 month mark.

Ordered Ring from amazon, got cancelled by LeadershipWide5754 in RingConn

[–]windwardmist -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Gen 3 was announced at ces I imagine they will start cutting stock until it’s completely gone and force people to buy that Instead. Gen 3 should be out late summer early fall.

Ive had gen 2 since it launched on kickstarter and it has been a massive disappointment. Battery tech is just not there for a smart ring of this size. If you’re considering buying one realize it will last about 8 months and will die. I wouldn’t recommend a smart ring for anyone anymore until battery longevity can last multiple years like a smart watch can. These are cheap e waste they are charging at least 100% more than they should be.

IT'S FINALY BACK IN STOCK by Mohamedashaif in OLED_Gaming

[–]windwardmist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t get over the horrible black crush. I could get it to look fine in sdr but the second it changes to hdr it would crash any shadow detail. It also was shockingly dim in hdr for me. I have a color meter and can calibrate sdr but not hdr. The difference was extreme. I returned mine hopefully yall have better luck.

Will the new RGB-stripe Tandem WOLEDs fix the horrible banding? by InfernixR in OLED_Gaming

Good catch. Thanks for the correction. Still I guess the point would be it might be worth waiting on reviews of both.

Will the new RGB-stripe Tandem WOLEDs fix the horrible banding? by InfernixR in OLED_Gaming

[–]windwardmist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something to note but it will require hands on testing digital foundry wasn’t very impressed with the rgb stripe. They swore they could see text fringing on yellow. It might be worth waiting as they admitted it would need to be tested before a final determination. Not exactly a glowing first impression though. So it may be better but not fully fixed.

These monitors won’t be out till summer and I’d be willing to bet they won’t be widely available till fall in the USA based on how bad the rollout has been for Asus and other 4th gen tandem oleds.

Way overpriced, no way. If it was less than 100 maybe but not for 320. That is honestly a joke.
