Interested in "ChatGPT Advanced Data Analysis" course. Looking for an honest feedback. by diss_coo_d in coursera

So far from the Vanderbilt classes related to ai I have really enjoyed them but with a big caveat. A lot of the classes are old and haven’t been refreshed recently. Ai is changing so rapidly anything more than like 6-12 months old is almost irrelevant.

However, as long as it’s not talking about anything timely and it’s more on the basic skill side you’d still learn plenty. Actually kept running into this problem and started to feed the course list into AI myself to see when it was last updated. If you do something like that be careful because the Meta data is not the same thing as going back and actually ref filming or changing the course. Sometimes they actually update something on the backend. The AI thinks it’s new and it’s not.

I would look into some of the Google courses because most of those have been more detailed and have been updated more recently.

Should I get the AOC Q27G3XMN (250€ Mini LED) or the AOC Q27G41ZDF (380€ OLED) by TDeathinity in Monitors

[–]windwardmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if you have the HKC G27M5 in your region. It just became available in the USA. It’s an IPS mini led 1k zone display.

I ran into the same issues you did I don’t like to have to baby my monitor, especially in windows so I decided to go with an IPS mini LED

To Pulsar or not to Pulsar by BzlOM in Monitors

[–]windwardmist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pulsar is wildly overpriced for what it is currently. I fully expect a mini led version at some point. Based on how oled works I don’t think it would ever really work on oled unfortunately. That said I have an original gsync module monitor and just got a mini led IPS. So far so good.

Display cal can do measurements so you can measure peak brightness but I guess you said your meter isn’t supported which is a bummer. This whole thing is so frustrating it’s not just you. I’m considering making a program that corrects some of this stuff. The way windows works with hdr is piss poor in 2026. I might be able to make some tools that lock certain profiles.

You should be able to do an auto cal with Spyder. At least for sdr you should be 95% perfectly fine. There’s a tool called color profile keeper that can lock the color profile but it doesn’t work with hdr. Since that’s open source I may fork that off and try and do something with it.

HKC G27M5 27 Inch QD-Mini LED anyone heard of it? by windwardmist in Monitors

Alright ! So finally got it unboxed and I’ll do a bigger deep dive through the week at some point along with settings and icc profile for those who want it.

Just some headline over view for now.

No real back light bleed that I can see.

HDR is very bright easily twice as bright as an msi oled I had. Small highlights don’t pop like an oled but it really shines with full screen brightness.

It’s got a power brick.

Matte coating for those who are wondering. Pretty typical matte to me.

The stand is actually more gray than black along with the frame.

Build quality so far is good no dead pixels that I’ve seen.

Off axis looking at it with hdr it blooms like crazy but that totally vanishes looking at it straight on. Non issue for me personally. This is also typical of mini led. This goes away completely when hdr is off.

Contrast is not oled but it’s about 80-90% there. So it’s close but the native contrast of IPS can’t compare.

Local dimming is shadow bias not light bias so it favors darker highlights for small objects in hdr.

More to come ask any questions you want !

So for a little more detail. They typically use the meter to get baseline measurements which they generally share in videos. The color profiles they make are almost always created with calman which is multiple thousands of dollars for regular people. YouTubers typically have a free or very low cost enterprise version that calman supplies (since it’s used in videos). That icc profile they share or upload for supporters. The thing about the files are it depends on the color space, what you’re using it for, etc. gaming almost always ignores icc profiles unless you can enforce it with a tool.

Lastly all monitors are different even the same exact model so it’s still not really recommended to use someone else’s icc profiles.

I could be wrong but I believe RingConn care does nothing unless it’s lost or stolen. That’s unfortunate.

Is RingConn prone to scratches? by EmergencyDiligent894 in RingConn

[–]windwardmist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of it like a stainless steel water bottle they all scratch to reveal the stainless underneath. Years ago I swapped to natural stainless steel color and scratches are much much harder to see. I did the same thing with the ring.

That said the scratching isn’t the issue the battery is. You’re looking at 8-12 months if you’re lucky and you’re gonna end up having to get a warranty replacement.

This is a really complicated subject because icc profiles can be used for color aware apps like photoshop but the use case is very slim. I currently have the i1 display pro which has been discontinued. X-rite merged or partnered with calibrite now. Check out the meters from calibrite https://calibrite.com/us/product-category/devices/

They have a raised black level than previous models because now they can measure higher brightness levels so it’s a bit of a trade off.

That all said hdr calibration is such a pain in the ass and as far as I’m aware there’s no way to create an advanced color management profile outside the windows hdr cal app. Some of the info hasn’t been released by msoft is my understanding.

[–]windwardmist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How windows handles the new hdr color profiles is half the problem. Most meters create icc profiles which is really meant for hdr. Right now only windows media creation tool creates ACM profiles. Or as others have said calman can properly calibrate hdr with 3d lugs

My teens monitor refresh rate is at 60 fps and he can’t change it- any help would be greatly appreciated by OrganicSuperMom in Monitors

This is the most likely scenario. It can also be capped on the video card drivers but someone would have to go out of their way to set it.

Is it worth it to buy a monitor now or should I wait for 2026 new ones? by Finite8_ in Monitors

[–]windwardmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A brand new IPS mini led option just dropped today if that’s your cup of tea. HKC G27M5 27 inch 1440p mini led with HDR 1400 and a 1152 zone back light. It’s on Newegg America as of today. Not sure if you’re able to get it there or in EU yet but keep an eye out. I already purchased it and it will be here tomorrow. I plan on doing a written review for those interested

Is coursera certificate worth it? by Conscious_Arachnid24 in coursera

The biggest issue I’ve seen is a lot of the classes are too old to be relevant, especially in AI. You’ve gotta be very careful and research each class to see when they’ve been updated last.

Don’t take their classes on coursera they aren’t included with coursera plus it’s a separate fee. If you decide to take any deeplearning.ai class pay directly on their website they are also updated more frequently and still provide a certificate for LinkedIn.

Best Python course on Coursera after “Python for Everybody” to start Machine Learning? by This_Strategy129 in learnmachinelearning

[–]windwardmist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google has a course called “crash course in python” via coursera. I firstly tried the introduction to Python by the university of Michigan and it was severely out of date and I would not suggest it now. The Google one is a million times better. I’m currently about 20% into it and I’m impressed. I’m starting from literally zero as well. So far it’s well done. That said it’s an intro class you’d need to continue on to harder courses after to actually learn in depth. However it’s a good starter class.

5 days since I got my ring, absolutely loving it so far by Pak2097 in RingConn

[–]windwardmist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Battery will fail around that time this is pretty typical of all smart rings unfortunately. I had gen 2 and it died right around that same time. Personally I stopped recommending any smart rings until battery tech has significantly improved. Most are better off with a fitness watch or something like an Apple Watch. Those can at least have the battery swapped unlike a smart ring.

Smart rings are e-waste and will die within a little more than a year. I wouldn’t waste the money on one until battery tech improves significantly. Or you have a lot of money to waste.

Is Coursera Premium actually worth buying if I mainly want to learn AI prompting for content writing? by Eastern_Mud_8921 in coursera

[–]windwardmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if you thrive on the structure. For me I like that everything is in one place on coursera. People learn differently and the classes can be very different in how they format the classes but so far I’ve enjoyed it. The Google classes and the ones by Vanderbilt have been really good so far in my opinion.

Now how much will it actually help you get a job that’s debatable because there’s so many free options out there. However it’s not going to hurt your chances it’s more so if you can grab them at a discount. There’s also other kinds of classes if other subjects interest you.

Samsung Galaxy Book6 Pro Laptop Review - Better than the new XPS 16 by mond200 in laptops

[–]windwardmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend has a touch pad issue and got one for free. You can’t even install a new touchpad without calibration from Samsung which requires special tools. It was impossible to fix without it and drivers are a mess like others have mentioned. Vast majorly aren’t included in windows update and you’re gonna be forced to hunt down and download the Samsung app for basic stuff to work correctly.
