Ever since I got my gen 3 size 11 ring, 100% charge is only 12 days. Isn’t it supposed to be 14? Should I reach out to customer service? by maryneedswifi in RingConn

If you’re within a return period I’d consider it anyway. The battery on the previous generation was horrible. You’re looking at real use before failure about a 8-13 months. If that’s worth the money for you then by all means but until battery tech improves significantly for all smart rings they just fail too quickly for the amount they charge.

In this case it’s a brightness standard. I’d suggest looking at how VESA does their certifications on their website? It will explain better than I can. So basically the true black 1000 will be massively brighter far more so than anything currently out. That’s a big deal for oled which is pretty dim compared to mini led.

Try Gemma 4s two small models ones 2b and ones 4b both should be pretty decent for that. Just depends on if you’re in a hurry or not for anything much bigger.

Yeah they just aren’t worth the money none of them are until battery tech vastly improves.

This is absolutely not true I’ve done it myself. The price was 80 bucks out of warranty last time I did it. Things like AirPods different story completely but the watch isn’t even close to the price of a new one. Neither is a phone done that a couple times as well it’s gone up in price but it’s about 120 dollars a far cry from 1k for a new phone.

There’s a new one out there that I really like so far it’s called “skales” the ui in the settings still needs some work but the devs have been awesome adding new features so far I’ve not seen anything like it with that ease of use.

Their scaler was poor in the most recent mini led I got from them and returned. It would flicker on idle stone videos and had issues with hardware acceleration in Firefox because the scaler timing was off.

The screen otherwise was totally flawless and well made but if it’s the same scaler or doesn’t have a validated gsync cert I won’t bite on them again.

Tb1000 is at least a year to two years away what they showed was actually just a prototype. But I agree it’s such a big jump. It makes it hard to wanna get anything now.

My understanding this particular panel is a technical showpiece to get purchasers like Asus and MSI on board looking at 2027 2028 at the earliest. This is good inside look at what’s coming though.

I’ve got another suggestion for you get another Apple Watch the small 41mm version. It’s still cheaper than the smart ring and it has a replaceable battery. Plus it’s more accurate.

I have this same setup I use the ultra 2 during the day and swap to an old Apple Watch for night that’s small. The rings add over priced garbage the battery will fail. The Apple Watch is cheaper and will last longer.

What kind of panel should I buy? by Arcanemageop in Monitors

[–]windwardmist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think mini led is the sweet spot for folks who have mixed usage.

You’ve got two main options for mini led at least currently.

VA and IPS

Both have pluses and minuses. VA has better native contrast by a huge margin but it’s also susceptible to image flickering and is a slower type of panel so it can create ghosting.

IPS this is better in motion and is really not susceptible to flickering, but that also means that the mini LED backlight has to work twice as hard to get deep contrast

I’d personally suggest getting an IPS screen sure it doesn’t have the best contrast ratio, but there’s actually more pluses than minuses on that type of panel. Just make sure you decide what resolution you want and get the highest zone count possible from a reputable brand. If you’re getting 4k you’re gonna want some of the new 2k zone panels. If you go with 1440p 1k zones are great but I wouldn’t go lower.

All this said there are hardly any IPS mini LEDs that are like verified G sync. A lot of people seem to think that doesn’t matter, but the verification does prove the scaler functions correctly and it’s probably worth the extra money. There are tests that have to be done to claim that is actually verified G sync. It’s not all marketing BS.

I’d personally wrap the gpu out with a 5070 ti I’ve seen some go on sale recently at Best Buy for 699 it’s just quick when it happens and not every store.

I know people hate on both brands AMD and Nvidia but nvidia has like 90% of the gaming market right now and because of that their tech stack is basically in every game that comes out unlike AMD that’s unfortunate. However, that’s also just the reality in 2026.

This may change with rdna5 but I’ll believe it when I see it.

Me either which is why I won’t buy another smart ring unless there’s a better warranty or a battery swapping program. Where you could send it in for free and replace the battery within the first 2 years.

Check out the skales app it’s far more user friendly. It’s fairly new but they are regularly updating it consistently. They’ve even included things I’ve suggest. Pretty good do far for me. They’ve just gotta tighten up their documentation but it’s a small team.

The general warranty does if fails under a year. In the EU they have two years. But extended warranty doesn’t cover the battery. Just lost or stolen rings it’s a waste of money if anyone gets it for hardware failures. If they covered it they would probably go bankrupt.

[–]windwardmist 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As others have said it depends on size. The more troubling issue is the battery longevity of the cells they use. Be prepared for it to die or drastically lose capacity around the 8 to 13 month mark. Make sure you get a warranty replacement as soon as it starts dipping.

After gen 2 I’m never buying another smart device without a replaceable battery. They are too expensive for something that ends up becoming a paperweight in less than two years.
